F1 Season 2009

I agree that they wouldn't have banned Lewis even if the situation was worse because of what you said. That would have destroyed the championship and the sport. If it was toward the end of the season, maybe different story but I can't see them banning him either.

To be fair, the sporting director told him to lie. When someone is paying you £Xm, when they say 'jump', you say 'how high'. At the end of the day Hamilton is still learning and he knows not to do this again. Definately not to be caught out anyway! Lying and cheating happens all the time in F1. The good teams don't get caught. Thats just fact. F1 has always been about bending the rules as far as you can.

I just want to bring up something which DC said in that last link and I agree with it 100%.

"There are always the drivers who see things only for themselves," the Red Bull advisor and TV pundit said. "Ayrton Senna was one, Michael Schumacher as well, and Lewis is probably made the same way."

People always slated MS for being like he was. People forget that Senna was exactly the same but because he tragically died, it was forgotten. Its that 'win at all costs' attitude that made Senna and Schumacher all time greats. As DC said, Lewis could be made in the same way and I can see him going down as a great too. Anyone else notice that its always the best drivers that have controversy surrounding them all the time? That also comes with the Marmite effect. You either love em, or you hate em.

Thats my 2 pennies worth anyway

:applaus:well said m8ty :)

i totaly agree with your comments but surely LH has a PR rep right? Also if he had have been honest form the start then people whould give him more thumbs up but no matter how u look at ti, he has only said sorry because he was caught out to be lying. He said "im an honest person and just want the truth to be known" so why not be honest from the start??

because he earns £m's and his boss told him not to!!!

makes him look a **** in my mind. you cant say in one breath

""I would like to say a big sorry to all my fans, who I showed who I am for the past three years, and it is who I am. I am not a liar. I am not a dishonest person.”
"
Then lie and get found out.

SO DONT LIE THEN!!

"“I’m a team player and every time I’ve been informed to do something I’ve done it."

Maybe we shold ask alonso if he`s a team player and maybe ask ron dennis how he feels that he will leave to goto ferrari for the big bucks.

"Lewis Hamilton has rocked Formula One on the eve of the new season by admitting hat he would consider walking out on McLaren"

I'm with s3ollie. When one of the directors tells you to do something, you do it no questions asked.

Having said that, I think there's another factor involved. He'd just stepped out of the car after the race, pumped full of adrenaline and he was told to withold some info that would give him more points. Now were all human, in his situation you want to come as far up in the points as possible, without thinking he agreed and went with it. Even he himself admitted this. It was afterwards where he may have thought 'hold on, this aint right' because at the end of the day he did nothing wrong in the first place! Thats why I'm so confused as to why he was told to lie!

In hindsight reptor, your bang on. If he came out clean and said 'my team told me to do this but its wrong...', people all over would respect him for it. But again in hindsight, so thats irrelevant. But if you're cought then yea, you gotta come clean lol.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that Hamilton wasn't sitting there thinking '****, I'm its a shame I got found out' but rather '****, I'm regretting lying in the first place'. I think his apology was pretty sinsere.

I think his apology was pretty sinsere.

I dont think it was fully sincere as it looked to be honest. personly i think his PR have told him that if he doesnt say sorry then his "brand" and popularity would be down the toilet. i mean like i said before, you cant say your a honest person and then lie and expect people to belive you. i also dont uy the whole "he`s still young and learning" he`s been racing most of his life and im sorry but his dad who lets face it is the driving force of lewis would no how to handle the media. not to mention Mclaren are extremly good at PR. Hence them being Champions time and time again. Ron dennis and martin whitmarsh are Pro`s at these types of situations and would lewis have owned up to this lie if he had not have been found out? i think not. so if he had just have kept it to himself and his team then is he really an "honest person"?

End of the day he is a racer and will do what it takes to win and i totaly understand that. just dont make out your a trust worthy person when your not.

my 2 cents.

Oh he had to come out and say sorry. No doubt about it. If all this never happened, nobody would be none the wiser! I agree with that. It was in his and McLaren's best interests for damage limitation for him to come out and apologise.

I'm not entirely sure his dad was in the loop about the whole lie and we'll never know how he took it etc but once it was found out about the lie Hamilton had to come clean to the public. I see where you're coming from.

But I still think that 2 and a bit years in F1 isn't enough to learn everything and know whow to handle every situation. Racing in any other series doesn't compare to F1 because of the media attention that you get so from that basis, I'd say he still is learning. I doubt that he's had to face this ever before in his carreer so from that aspect, its new for him.

I apologise if none of this makes sense but I've just come back from a night out and i may have had a drink or 2 :) :beerchug:

Anyone watching the qualifying live?

MASSA OUT IN Q1 QUALIFYING ON THE BUBBLE!!!! LOL

Let's see how the FIA is going to step in now haha, guess they could disqualify Hamilton and Massa would be 15th! :moa:

Mclaren 13th & 14th...

The way Hamilton can drive in race conditions even with a slower car I think he'll still get into the points.

Is it just me or is quali getting as exciting as the races now?! The times were tumbling like no ones business! Ferrari have made another huge mistake.... again. Should be a great race.

The thing with Hamilton, he's a fantastic racer. He knows how to overtake people so it will be good watching him. I wanna know the fuel loads because Button was flying!

OK, predictions for the race, Jenson to win from the front and Hamilton on the points... not asking for much am I? :)

Trulli is going to push Jenson all the way, and I reckon Vettel will make a few places also.

Put my bets on for tomorrow:

Winning Margin will be 10 seconds or over
Hamilton to get a points finish
There will be a safety car
Vettel fastest lap

But I still think that 2 and a bit years in F1 isn't enough to learn everything and know whow to handle every situation. Racing in any other series doesn't compare to F1 because of the media attention that you get so from that basis, I'd say he still is learning.

altho i agree with what your saying 100%. i still think that saying he is still young and learning is a cop out abit. he`s been with the mclaren team albeit in GP2 and karting for most of his life. He will no doubt in my mind what so ever , have a person who is in charge of his PR. every racer beit a driver or bike rider has one. There the one`s telling him what to say and not to say (just look at montoya, he said when he left F1 he loved it because he could say what he wanted and not what he had to say by his PR guru`s) He will have manager who will tell him the same.

Anyways looking over the fuel stats for the race. jenson will run away with it again it seems. good for him i reckon. :)

nice to see us brits are doing something good and its not just a lewis circus ever day in the paper. Yay for BrawnGP

dont forget to get up and watch it live guys. 9am :)

Oh yea, he'll definately have a PR guy. No doubt. But in OZ, Lewis jumped straight out of the car and went straight to the Stewards office. The only guy he saw was Ryan. Plus, I don't think PR have anything to do with what you tell the Stewards, they are there to tell you what to say infront of the media.

This is really testing the relationship between the Hamiltons and McLaren. This is his 3rd year with them and there have already been 2 major cockups by McLaren themselves. Because of McLaren he got thrown out of the championship in 07, and again now with this. I tell you what, no matter how much someone helps me to get somewhere, I'd start to question it all when all this starts happening. McLaren really need to sort out their staff! And the worst of it is, it's people high up!

Anyway, the race. Its going to be another great one! Especially if it rains. Will be a test for the drivers. I'll be expecting Vettel to make something of it. Them Brawn cars are unbeliavable! Its nice to see Button smiling again. I think the teams are missing a trick here that I've spotted! What number was Hamilton last year when he won the title....? What number is Button this year....? :sly:

Morning guys. they said there should be about 30mins of rain. Now that should be interesting. :hubbahubba:

Lets Hope for a Great Race :):beerchug:

Red Flagged. They should stop the race i reckon. thats shocking rain.

Jenson Wins!!!. Nice one.

Funny how Glock drove ok in the wet and got 3rd place but yet couldnt drive in the wet in brazil and gave lewis the championship. Hmmmmm

Was another brilliant race! Well done to Button.

But what on earth are Ferrari smoking on that pit wall?! :banghead::motz:

the tyres?

Indeed! He got the tyres spot on this time though.

I want to see a video of that lightning bolt that hit the grandstand. I wonder how high the spectators jumped...

Last years car was completely different, the Toyota this year has far more down force than the rest of the field (except Brawn and Williams) so can drive faster in the wet. Last years Toyota aero was essentially ***** so he could not get the pace, also he was on the wrong tyres for the changing conditions.

The quali and racing is far better this year with the new regs. The conbination of cars with and without KERS and close racing is great. Ferarri and McLaren seem to have totally lost the plot though!!! Both teams are off the pace but seem to be making some very bad decisions. McLaren really had no reason to lie to the stewards and what the hell did Rob Smedley do with Massa in quali!

Looks like Mclaren might pull out of F1

"The possible exit from Formula One of Mercedes-Benz is back on the radar, amid the 'lie-gate' McLaren scandal and the collaboration's relatively poor start to the season.
"
http://en.f1-live.com/f1/en/headlines/news/detail/090406161822.shtml

Lewis wont be bothered tho as he will no doubt go to ferrari. lets face it, he`s only bothered about the money anyways. He`s got a 75m 5year contract.

I wouldn't mind too much if he went to Ferrari, think it would be quite interesting!

"According to the Sunday Times, Hamilton was so disillusioned by this week's events that he telephoned Mosley to express his annoyance at McLaren's actions and to say that he was contemplating walking away from the sport."

what alod of *****!!! he wont quit. talk about spoilt bratt syndrome.

anyways looks like Mclaren are going to get fined a stupid amount of money that wont really affect them.

Formula 1's bosses are expected to launch an official inquiry into McLaren's behaviour in misleading race stewards after the Australian Grand Prix.

Well being a Ferrari fan I'd welcome Lewis to Ferrari! But I can't see that happening yet. Maybe in the future. I can't see McLaren withdrawing from F1. They are part of it like Ferrari are. They just need to sort out their staff! I don't believe everything thats in the press. I take it all with a pinch of salt. At the end of the day they want to juice up a story to sell some papers.

I'd wouldn't say that Lewis is after money. Yes it will have a say in things, but I doubt that it will be the deciding factor. Obviously McLaren will have upped his pay packet after his title win and quite rightly so! I mean £15m a year isn't that much money when it comes to F1 champions. If Force India offered him £25m he would probably turn it down. He'd be nuts to take it because he's a winner. He likes winning! But by the same token, if McLaren offered him £1m a year he'd be questioning whether they are paying him enough because he's worth a lot more than that. I'd be inclined to say that he's been approached by Ferrari with more money and he's turned them down because of his loyalty to McLaren. But if all these 'mistakes' carry on, he'd probably start looking else where.

Mind you, Ferrari are no better with their decisions are they?!

You seem to have a chip on your shoulder about Hamilton!

Not really Matt. seems your on the defensive of him tho. if you read my post i was slagging off mclaren for the lie-gate too and ive supported mclaren since hakkinen days in the early 90`s. go back on what i said a few days ago about lewis. to refrsh your memory i said i think he`s a good driver and he`s fast. just he thorws the toys outta the pram when he makes a prat of himself of loses.

he`s a good driver and he`s fast. just he thorws the toys outta the pram when he makes a prat of himself of loses.

Pretty much like Alonso did when he was with Mclaren then.
I think the number one thing any driver on the grid is botherd about is winning races & driving a car good enough to allow that, yes their botherd about the money but they'll get plenty of that which ever team their with especially if their a former world champion.

Spot on

FIA calls McLaren before the WMSC

"* on 29 March, 2009, told the stewards of the Australian Grand Prix that no instructions were given to Hamilton in Car No. 1 to allow Trulli in Car no. 9 to pass when both cars were behind the safety car, knowing this statement to be untrue;"

looks like the poo is about to hit the fan. mark my words, even tho lewis lied and continue to lie. even theo he said he is not a lier. Mclaren will be hit with a fine and lets face it money dont mean a thing to them. Lewis will get away with it and it will go on.

* on 2 April, 2009, at the second stewards' hearing, procured its driver Hamilton to continue to assert the truth of the false statement given to the stewards on 29 March, while knowing that what he was saying to the stewards was not true."

Well woopeedo, Lewis Hamilton has told a lie after all... he is human then, I'm sure we are all angels in this current world we are living in.

I personally don't care wether he did or not, he was asking all the right questions during the race after Trulli went off and followed team orders as instructed like anyone who who takes orders from the big man that's paying your wages. His squeeky clean image is in the past, he needs to toughen up, and be pretty quick about it. Schumi and Alonso both have a ruthlessness that Lewis needs to pick up if he wants to be world champion again in my opinion. Hope he does come through all this with minimal damage, as I'm a fan since his arrival to F1.

Back to the actual racing, I'm also very thrilled to see Jenson clean up again, even though he was lucky to be in 1st position when the race was stopped! Hamilton's luck is still there, he made the points again as I predicted, but where the hell is his teammate? And I feel sorry for those Ferrari fans, what the hell is going on in their camp?! They really know how to lose a race before it's even started.

Still.... this has been the most exciting start in a long time for formula one I'm sure most of you will agree, hope it continues to the end of the season. :)

And I feel sorry for those Ferrari fans, what the hell is going on in their camp?! They really know how to lose a race before it's even started.

:sorry: :(

I think its going to be a very long season for Ferrari. McLaren too! I can see this FIA hearing going sour for them again. As reptor said, the sh!t will most definately hit the fan! I don't think they'll do anything to Lewis because he's done nothing wrong in my eyes! As jojo said, he asked all the right questions in the car which shows that he knows the rules better than his own team, and when he finished the race he told the media exactly what happened. As soon as he sees Ryan, he changes his story. They slapped Lewis' wrist in the form of taking his points away for listening to Ryan and I think that'll be it. I said in an earlier post that I think his apology was sincere. All you've got to do is see that conference and you'll realise that. He's an F1 driver, not an actor. That seems genuine to me. If anything does happen to McLaren, it will bring up the whole 'Ferrari International Assistance' thing again but they keep bringing it on themselves! These are big names very high up in the company that keep messing up! And anwyay, the FIA will have to disqualify everyone for Ferrari to win! :p

As for Button, I dont think he's lucky. The guy worked for his win. Just happened to be right place at the right time! I take my hat off to him for those blistering lap times before his pit stop. They were mindblowing! Thats what gave him the win I recon. Next race wont come soon enough!

hmm interesting

"Brawn GP should not sack Rubens Barrichello in favour of reigning World Champion Lewis Hamilton, Sir Jackie Stewart has warned.
"
"if found guilty on the disrepute charge - the most likely sanction for McLaren is suspension for multiple races, which could also trigger the 24-year-old and his furious father and manager Anthony's departure."
