Hi guys,

I have recently purchased a new chrome headlight switch for my S3 2007.
This new switch contains DRL as well whereas my OEM one did not.

The new one fits perfectly, all lights are on apart from the DRLs.
I suspect there is some coding that needs to be done via VAGCOM.

Any ideas as to where to look in VAGCOM about this?

P.S. I can use your advise as my local AUDI garage could not be able to resolve this issue. :banghead:

Cheers!

Click on '09-Central Elect'

When you go into this module, it will scan for fault codes and go straight to a fault code screen. It should say 'No Fault Codes Found'. Click the 'Done, go back' button to get to the main screen for this module.

Click on 'Long Coding - 07'
You may get a pop-up warning, click 'yes' for long coding
WRITE DOWN your original long code before doing anything else at all.
Click on 'Long Coding Helper'
In the Long Coding Helper, set:

Byte 00 bit 04 to '1' for North American style DRLs
- OR -
Byte 00 bit 03 to '1' for Scandanavian style DRLs
(Do one or the other, do NOT try to set both Bytes active at the same time!)
Click 'Transfer Coding'
Quit out of the Long Coding Helper
See that the new Long Code differs from the original one
Click 'Do it!'
Verify that the new Long Code is stored.
Click 'Done, go back'
Click 'Close controller, Go Back'

Use scandinavian light setting as it puts the DRLs on both the front and rear lights whereas the US only have the front DRLs on and look odd. I believe that if you dont have xenons then your fogs will be used as DRLs on the front but I dont know if they will need coding also.
I found it here but another very good source of info is an open office document I have(cant remember who made it). Ill post a link up for it later.

Thanks Dandle. Quite interesting walkthrough!

I followed the link you found as well but it says for vehicles not equipped with bi-xenon headlamps, where S3s 8P are having bi-xenon as standard (at least @ Greece).

DRLs are not the fog lights. They are the lamps that are underneath the sidelights.
As I understand u recommend the Scandinavian settings, but yet will they work on my car whilst having bi-xenons. I really do not want to test it and then having other issues, if above mention coding is not applicable.

Any ideas?

If you have the new light switch as per I did, you need 1 repair wire, cut it in half, extend it via bullet crimps or soldering & heatshrunk covering or electrical tape & connect it to the onboard network module which 09 coding controls, wire from pin 4 of the headlight switch 7 pin long connector down to the connector E pin 10 on the main network board, this will give you the on/off facility that coding wont, coding will turn them on all the time, but for me no point have the new dial if I'm not gonna use it, 10 minute mod & £2 repair wire if that, simplessssssssssss

Yeah, only difference between that & mine is I have the Auto position, but yeah that'll do.

Cheers mate!
I will look into it!

Hope everything will be ok!

You wont have any issues, the coding should work fine for you & use scandinavian to enable front/rear.
