i just bought a valeo standard replacement clutch for my car (2000 1.8t quattro sport) and on the box it says it fits other 1.8t a4 and passat and a6 too.is this right? in the book it did say for ajl engine and thats what mine is anyway. just want to make sure it is right befor i get the car in bits.

Friction discs are the same.

Pressure plate however is NOT the same - AJL share the same pressure plate with the AFN (1,9TDI 110).

Don't be tempted to run the wrong pressure plate, it'll slip, and the engine / tranny will be coming out again before not too long.

going by the book and looking on the net it says the part number i have is for AJL anyway so it should be rite. is there a way to tell by looking at them?

Not sure what part number you've got there - is it a genuine VAG item?

No, you can't tell by looking, spring rates are different.

its just from a motor factors. it should be ok,i looked in the book he had and it said for AJL engine.

i think i need to stop looking on the net. i have found listings saying it is for the ajl engine and others saying everything but. im going back to get more stuff anyway so i will double check with them anyay but id did say in the book he had that it was for ajl. ill see if it lists the same number for aeb etc as well. so would i be rite in thinking a pressure plate for the ajl would be a bit of an upgrade for somebody with a fwd 1.8t a4?

As long as the profiles are the same, and allow it to fit an AEB, yes.

I've found stuff on the 'net that are blatantly wrong - one listed the S4 ECU as fitting S4 and 2,4 / 2,8 30V.

So, I'd be careful. One of the very reasons why with such things that are a pig to fit, I only buy OEM.

in the valeo book they have it listed it as fiting AJL engine and then the next one was for AEB etc but i never seen if it was the same kit or not so ill check. if its in the valeo book as for my car it should be anyway.wish i never looked on the net now. its a pitty there isnt a pressure plate for some other audi thats an upgrade for this set up.

You might find a TDI pressure plate of some form will give higher clamping force and still work with your friction plate and flywheel, but it would be a bit of a guessing game, and seen as its a pig to fit i dunno if i'd really want to experiment too much...

The idea clutch upgrade would be a 240mm item - 2,4/2,8 30V V6, or S4.

Aragorn, pressure plate of AJL is the same as that of the AFN (TDI 110).

Ye, i just mean perhaps the plate from a PD130 B6 or something might be a further upgrade, but ye, 240mm flywheel and an S4 clutch would probably be the way i'd go.
