Quick Answer needed - Adaptors & Offset

Hi,

So, I have A3, 5x100 PCD, et35-45.

Basically, let's say I purchase some alloys with 5x112 PCD, et35, if I buy adaptors that are 15mm (thick), will the wheels fit? Can I go for 20mm?

doubt it on an a3 chassis, as at et35 with 15mm spacer will make it a et20 wheel, my fronts on my s3 are et25 and they sit right on the edge and the backs are et10 so taking another 10mm off id still guess there wouldnt be much room on an a3 for that

its not my thing, but surely an adapter thats only 15mm thick is rather dangerous to bolt the wheel to as means you only get 15mm of thread to bolt to from the wheel bolts, maybe 20mm would be better considering its a 2 step bolt onto car with the pcd adapter, cant you find wheels that are correct 5x100 & use spacers to get the wider stance?

S3 Kev, sorry, not quite soaking in what you said, but if I purchase thicker hubs, will the wheels end upi sticking out of the arches?

Unfortunately the wheels I'm looking at have stopped being produced and no one has 5x100s in stock, only 5x112s. I've been searching for 6 weeks now. These are my 3rd as well, choice 1 and 2 are no longer in production too!

I took the 'alloy wheel shopping' for granted...it's taking ages to find ones I like...

First of all, what wheels are you after, maybe someone on here can get you a set, unless you are keeping it a secret!
If you can get the correct fitment then I would try and find the correct ones, running hub adaptors unlimately increases you unsprung weight and effects your handling, and even with 15mm adaptors, I think you are going to catch the arches on you A3 body.

Fair enough...think I'm going to hold out and see if 5x100s come up...sounds like a mistake if I introduce hub adaptors...

Yeah, trying to keep the wheels secret, once I have them, fit them, I'll post the pics...

ok so ill try and explain to you the et thing lol,
if your wheels are et35 then you were to put on some 15mm adaptors then that wheel will then become a et20.
the et is the offset of the wheel so the higher the number the further in towards the car they will sit, so if you had et50 wheels then they would sit further into the arch then your current wheels at et35 even if there exactly the same width. so with a wheel that will be theretically et20 then that will sit further away from the arch and more then likely outside the arch on your a3.

so looking at that diagram you hub is the 'center line' so for instance your wheel's now at et35 will sit closer to the 'zero offest' but with new wheels at et35 and 15mm adapters your wheel will sit closer to 'positive offset'
