Planning to buy, can I get it down cheaper?

I am about to take the plunge and get an Audi A3, most probably the SE 1.8TDI S-tronic in Ibis White. That, with all the options comes up to about £21,690 on the online configurator.

What sort of deal do you think I can press for in my local dealership? I had a play on AutoeBid and drivethedeal.com and it recons I can get it for less than £20k. Do you think that is likely? My options are:

Air Con
Black Styling
Light Pack
Privacy Glass

Is there anything you think I should be adding to get the best from my car?

Should be possible! I went to my dealer but never went through with the deal.
For a Ibis White A3 S-Line 170 Model end of last year. With Black Styling and Privacy Glass was the only things i wanted.

I was able to get 12% discount and think the car was under £21k cant remember the exact numbers but some thing like that

So i dont see why you couldn't get it lower. If you go audi just push for discount around 8%-12%
There few other sites some on the guys on here use, and other audi dealer have matched the price or done better

Wow 12% would be good! That would take me to £19,500. I had a look at the broadspeed.com and they also do some good deals! I'm a bit nervous about going through those guys despite them saying I will deal with the main dealers...

Do you mean the 1.8TFSI. Audi don't make 1.8TDI.

As far as options are concerned, the sky is the limit almost. It depends how much you are willing to pay. I've just ordered a A3 Sportback 2.0TDI-140 SE S-tronic with £4600 worth of options. Quite a few of the options are 'nice to have' items that would be much more expensive to retro fit than order with on the new car.

My options include - 17x7.5J 16-spoke alloys, Concert radio with active front and rear speakers, iPod connection, electric drivers seat controls and lumbar support, rear acoustic parking system, electric folding door mirrors, light and rain sensor pack, cruise control, air-conditioning, interior light pack, luggage pack, no-smoking pack, storage pack, through-load system and last but by no means least Adaptive Xenon headlights.

My existing Sportback has most of these and I want more of the same but with the new Common-rail diesel engine.

As far as a deal is concerned I am getting 10% discount on the new car plus a very good trade-in figure for my existing car.

Out of curiosity, what does the no-smoking pack contain? I would assume a removed ashtray bay?

I am hoping to stick in a double dinn headunit and black 18" alloys after I've bought it. Is there anything I need to add to the SE to make this possible? e.g. is the standard radio on the SE double dinn?

Are the rear speakers in the SE model I am hoping to get?

With the non smoking pack you get a 12V socket, but no lighter just a cover and instead of an ashtray you get just a storage hole. I decided to keep mine as it was as i like the ashtray for keeping little things in.

If you have the standard radio in the SE the you will get the double-din Chorus which only has front speakers. To get active front and rear speakers you will need to specify the Concert double-din unit, which costs an extra £215.

On the A3 there is a small cubby hole in front of the driver and below the lighting switch which can be used for coins for the parking meter and also a pop out tray in the centre dash above the air-conditioning controls which can also be used.

As I wear different glasses for driving I find the space left by not having the ash tray useful for keeping my driving glasses in their case.

It's all down to satisfying the fleet market. The Sport and above come with the Concert as standard. The SE used to as well but some clever marketing guy at Audi UK decided that there must be a model between the Standard and the Sport/SE. The Sport and SE used to be the same price and you just used to deside which model you wanted.

Audi UK then decided to take some of the kit off the SE and charge less so that there would be a progressive range from Standard, SE, Sport, S-Line to S3. Hence the SE no longer has the Concert radio. It was standard when I bought my current model but the SE package then cost £2000 above the Standard and the same as the Sport.

In some ways it has advantages because if you don't want some of items that were standard then you don't have to pay for them.
