paint job

had a little accident a while ago and now just got my car back, had a new rear bumper, new rear tailgate and new rear quarter panel. just been checking the paint job and it is not that good, i can still see what seems to be sanding marks and on the door handle it looks like the clear coat had run. how much would it cost for a full paint job by a good body shop? and are there any good places around?!

Full respray, non-mates rates can be anywhere up to 2-3k!!

You can however always find people who are cheaper and often do a very good job.
I've seen a couple of sub £1000 jobs on SeatCupra.net that the owners were more than happy with.

2-3k can be cheap for a re-spray but i guess it depends on whats involved.

People seem to recommend you as to see a sample repair, this makes sence to me

im really dissapointed with the finish on it! there are a few tiny little bubbles which have been touched up and then clear coat on top, the worst bit is tho it looks like they have sanded something down and then just put clear coat on top. and its really hazy now!

Was it an insurance job? If so, just complain about the work. So many insurance approved bodyshops are lazy and send cars out that aren't properly polished, and with runs etc.

If the rest of the paintwork on the car is ok, and you're not after a colour change, then I wouldn't get the whole car painted... will be very expensive, and can make a car trickier to sell.

F*ck yeah!

If I was looking to buy a car and saw that it had been repaired, I'd walk away (as would many other people). Any repair should be 100% right. Shoddy insurance work is just not acceptable.

As above, feck me yeah, go back to bodyshop, dont bother with insurance company just yet & say you're not happy with the paint job & show them exactly all the areas you think are bad & say you would like it rectified fully to the standard it should be, which for me is almost an unrecogniseable repair.

If they wont resolve then get onto insurance company & as they dont pay for about 120 days anyway they would be more inclined to make sure its corrected to the standard you want.

my only worry is that im going to take it back and they will just abuse my car like a lot of garages do! and for me it has to be perfect because as i detail my car a lot, the slightest scratch ruins all the hard work! il try n get a few pics up!

im sure a lot of people would look at them and think its nothin but my car is my pride and joy n i want it to look its best, and im sure everyone on here feels exactly the same! whats the point of having a nice car if the paint is rubbish!

colour match was spot on! cant fault that, it has the sparkle that it used to have and the paint looks clean and new apart from those shoddy parts!

Oi you clear off, you dont even own a Audi (or have one on order) sod off back to SCN with your Leon lol lol

I would be straight on the phone to the insurance company as most work is covered for 5 years i believe.

Just a generally half ***** paint job they've done.

The 'crease' in the paint seems to be a masking line - shouldn't be there at all, not if they took the light out.

The 'sanded' part seems like it hasn't been flatted and polished - we had a similar problem after a repair on a company car - it was right at the bottom of the door and it looked like they couldn't be bothered to get on their knees and do it!

All in all, it's not acceptable, and they should take it back and put everything right.

tell them you want it done again by a different body shop, like audi or someone, your car wasnt like that before it was damaged so it shouldn't be like it now, have you signed the paper work to say you were happy with the car when u collected it??? garages always use that as a way out 90% of the time, i used nationwide crash repair centre in gloucester and cheltenham and both times they repaired my cars they done a s**t job, wrong colour and used patten parts, i will never ever use them again as there work is absolutely shocking

Mate - take it back - I;d be ****** if that were my car - were teh body shpo even up to britch standards?

I had my front end resprayed due to stone chips and it looks mint - you could never ever tell the bumper had been sprayed and colour match was spot on.

IIWU - take it back, throw it on their face and tell them to sort it so its up to its pre-accident condition! If they dont do nothing, talk to the insurance company and get them to not pay them until they redo the work...

i am taking it back now. i started getting really ****** off on phone cos i have now found some more problems, from the accident, my bumper reinforcement bar had creased and that has not been replaced, the rear interior light doesn't work, (havn't checked bulbs or anything but it should still work) the little black boot lid hinge cover is missing and other one is cracked, there is a rattle which sounds like a screw in the boot lid and im still appauled about how they can even send a car away with a paint job like that! its quite good tho cos they cant say the chips are my fault because they are all underneath the clear coat!
the company was UK assistance in aldershot! they looked like a very good company, a massive building, inside they have hundreds of thatchem approved certificates but guess they couldn't be bothered to a good job on an insurance job

Means nothing, they're usually the worst. Some of the best bodywork you'll see comes out of the smallest roughest looking bodyshops!

I'm sure you'll manage to get it sorted though, if the bodyshop are unhelpful, then the insurance company is the next place to speak to.
