Just bought a New THS Decat/Downpipe, I ahve a standard exhaust on my A3 1.8T (the hidden behind bumper one).

When I put the downpipe on this saturday what can I expect sound wise?

Will the exhaust get louder? differnt tone? has anyone tried this?

My friend has a decat on his golf however he has a cat back, and the exhaust got louder and also backfires frequently. what can I expect whit a standard exhaust?

Thanks, Ryan

Just me or.... does That sounds awful?

However he has had his middle box removed?

don't worry ryan, it'll sound NOTHING like that, at all.

It won't be silly loud AT ALL with a standard exhaust, I'd be surprised if you heard much difference, if any.

whats the take Prawn on decat do they offer any power?
BTW do you read redline?

decat? the decat on a AGU engine won't offer any power, the massive restriction is in the downpipe. Unlike the S3 the standard 1.8T downpipe is incredible restrictive, the cat itself isn't too bad really. Also unlike the S3 the downpipe and cat are not seperate parts, so the easiest solution is to replace the whole lot with a combined downpipe/decat, although the more law abiding among us may prefer to have a cat welded back into the system.

Personally I run a milltek 200cel sports cat, so it's free flowing and 100% legal.

Reline? are you refering to Redline? If so, I try to avoid chavvy publications like that. I read Miniworld and NCE :)

It is Decat/Downpipe, 3" THS.

I jsut dont want my car sounding like that awful S3.

haha

ryan,

I have got a 3" downpipe and decat on my s3, mine sounds nothing like the one on the vid.
I have still got the standard cat-back system, and tbh it doesn't sound much differnent, a bit louder on full throttle but nice imo, not too intrusive but im sure you will notice a slight difference not in a bad way tho.

I had the THS downpipe.

It wont change the noise at all.

From experience you will LOSE torque when fitting it due to the lack of backpressure meaning the turbo although free and able to flow more doesnt know how to because the remap was written taking the backpressure into account.

I noticed a large difference when the remap was adjusted to suit.

Another thing, the downpipe is 3" but then graduates down to 2.5" and 2", so you will need to have a long piece of straight pipe welded on to make it join your existing system.

mate said he read it and they are trying different ways to increase the power on a TT,and each time dyno'ing it before and after.
Chav!?? Ha.....I'll let you know subscribe to Evo and Big mommas monthly :)

I bought redline this month actually as my mate made the DVD on the front.

Its not as chavvy as I thought it would be.

how much difference has the down pipe and de-cat made to your s3? and what make is it and are you using the standard k04 still??
be interesting to see what gains you have had as ive been contemplating the ths de-cat as its only £100

s3 kev

Its hard to judge mate how much difference the downpipe and decat made as i had my k04 made into a hybrid at the same time, so obviously there was a big difference after that.
i was told that because i was upgrading the turbo the downpipe was a must, not sure how much difference it would make on a standard turbo though, sorry couldnt be more help....

I know that. I just wouldnt want to with my S3

Why not exactly? it's 4wd with loads of torque, surely it'll be fine for towing?

I use our A3 1.9TDI to tow my Hillclimb car on a single axle Woodford lightweight trailler, and it's fine.

I'm putting an invisable detachable towbar on my A3 1.8T this summer so I can tow at speed

cool cheers for that, where did you get the turbo hybrid'ed, how much was it to im sort of really eager to get mine done

I'd be interested about the hybrid too, as i think i'll be doin mine soon.
As for the tow bar, I tow my speedboat with my S3. Its an awsome tow car. And yes, my boat is faster on land than on the water!!!

I had the work done by backdraft, if your intersted its deffo worth having a chat with mark im sure he will be more than pleased to answer any questions about the hybrid. Cant remember the exact price i payed as I had a few other bits done at the same time but the prices are up on the website.....

Its a worthwhile upgrade IMO guys and deffo worth investigating into more, but bear in mind that im now in the process of saving for an uprated clutch and single mass flywheel because of the big improvement in torque (330 lb/ft) which is probably going to cost another 1k on top and then with the higher boost you will be running you really should think about upgrading the intercooler which IIRC is another 700 hundred or so, so it can quickly add up but its certainly put a smile on my face so far let us know if and when u get it done boys be good to hear other peoples opinions on the matter

cheers gareth

yeah i have been looking at the jbs hybrid but seems to be double the price of the bd one, i already have a front mount intercooler so no problems there and i also replaced my clutch recenlty albiet a standard one but should be ok if i was to do the upgrade but its definantly brakes first for me though, cheers for the inseight of hybrid life
