hi, I've been looking for a sportback for a while now and decided on a 3.2 S-Tronic.

I called up about this car today:

http://usedcars.audi.co.uk/carview.aspx?id=600515536

The dealer wasn't moving on price at all, all I got was one years free VED (£400), plus I have to travel to London to collect it.

I told him I need to think about it. To me it doesnt feel like I'm getting a good deal, but for the spec on this car it ticks all my boxes apart from the missing Bluetooth!

I told him its a quick cash sale, no part ex etc, thats when he said he will throw the tax in for free.

What do you guys reckon? Is it worth go for this as its heading towards S3 money as originally my budget was a lot lower but wanted a car with 5 doors & auto?

It's a good colour, mileage and spec, but seems massively overpriced, particularly in the current climate.

To give you an idea have a look here:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/06-06-Audi-A3...oryZ9835QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
I know the spec sucks - it's not S-Line and has more miles on it (although it is newer), but it's £11,450, so maybe £10500-£11000 on a good day.

Parkers (not always on the money, but a good guide) reckon that car you've seen is worth £13K with 30k miles on the clock, and I honestly reckon all things considered it's worth £15K TOPS.

There is no way they wil get £18K for that.

IMO that is a bit pricey for a 06 car, despite it being pretty well loaded. Im not expert on prices down south, but it might be weighted as it is Surrey.

Just a quick scan found this:

http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/926200.htm

Albeit higher mileage, one year older and less well specced (but has Nav), but that makes a near £4K!!!! difference in price.

Anyone have a recent Glass's guide.

I have to agree, thats silly money, my local car supermarket had a brand new 5 door golf GTI with DSG for less than that! 15k tops and in this climate i'd want him offering a servicing package, extended warranty and the tax for that 15k

Agreed - that one still isn't a steal at £14K, but is much more realistically priced. That one on Pistonheads is a 55 plate, so maybe only 6 months older.

I wouldn't pay a penny over £15K for the Surrey car, and even that seems a bit much tbh.

thanks for the input, I was suprised he wasn't moving on price at all, maybe as its only just come in?

When I called up initially he asked me how much it is on for online, I said 18K and he acted shocked, I said what's up - he said "its too cheap I need to check with the sales manager it is on at the correct price...and will call you back."

The salesman is clearly a complete c*nt then!

Some dealers don't live in the real world - they will really struggle to get anything close to £18K for that - you know full well if that came in as a p/ex they would have offered £11K for it...

As nice as an example as it is, it would be madness to consider paying that much money for it, as you will lose a packet when you come to re-sell. If you're genuinely interested in the car, it might be worth trying to speak to the sales manager and ask how they have come up with that price.

yeh sounds like it, lol

he also said the line, "when I asked the sales manager the price 2 people have already enquired about this car"

I said, its still overbudget and he said "you will not find an example like this, 1 owner, low miles etc"

he used all the sales talk on me but something inside me knew the price seems too high...

good idea to talk to the sales manager about the pricing

found this valuation on the AA site which uses glasses: http://www.theaa.com/cbg/ModelAction.do?manufacturerCode=A2&trade=false

would the spec bump up this figure at all and if so by how much?

In the current climate, and the way larger engined cars are selling, I think that's very unlikely! Typical salesman bullcrap.

Agreed, it sounds like a great example - but that doesn't mean it's worth £3-5K over book!

From what I have seen, the spec makes cars more desirable, and easier to sell, but puts very little on the price.

A lot of the time dealers will put cars up at silly pricing to see if a mug walks past and likes a car enough to pay over the odds. If the car is new in, they might want to try that for a couple of weeks and see what happens. I can't see they have paid more than £11-12K for the car themselves, so they can't find it too insulting to be offered £15K ish.

I wouldnt pay that much for a 2006 car! For a bit extra £1k or £2k can get a 56 or 2007 s3 with around 20,000miles on the clock. If you can get the price down i'd consider it, if not look else where. But it took a while for me to get discount on my a3 first was up for £11k i ended up getting it for £8750 then my second car they wanted £15k got it down to £12k but thats was still a lot.
And he should consider doing you a better deal from traveling to collect the car aswell i'd just look around or hold out a bit longer. And that car are not selling that much. As pete says they put it up to see if any one will take it at that price.
hope that helps, and im sure few of the guys on here have a quick search and find you a better car for less. Or for that price a really good car.

Ashley

thanks Pete, that sounds good, 15K offer it is, I'm in no rush to buy so can easily wait a few weeks.

I'm guessing he will try to call me back sometime soon, no wonder he was pressing for a deposit on the phone and he kept on asking me do you want to proceed...

dont know where you got your audis from but if you got your audi from an audi garage that price is not to bad although i got my 2.0t same spec but with 26 thousand on the clock and no sunroof for 14950 with free tax and that coating crap on it so i wouldnt say its massivly over priced id pay 16 for it that seems fair because if you get a cheaper one then come back on here youle be like crap i want xenons crap i want rnse i want cruise contol and by the time youve bought fitted all this stuff it will work out dear anyhow just go for it when i got mine i love it and think it was worth every penny where as if i paid 13 g for a lesser spec id be ****** of that i got to mess about up grading and all that but its up to you

true say, I do like the spec a lot as its got everything I want! they did a review on the Sportback on the audi channel and this car has almost everything they showed on the programme.

But not keen on paying the 18K they are asking for, will think about it over the next few weeks and take things from there.

You need to get your keyboard fixed, the full stop key is a useful one... ;)

£3-5K over book price isn't a good deal, main dealer or not. The 3.2Q prices have plummeted over the last few months, and aren't fetching a premium over the 2.0T. I agree with your comment about paying a bit more for the right car, so if it was me, yes I might stretch to £16K if I thought the car was worth £15K. But this dealer is saying he won't budget on £18K, which is completely unrealistic.

i no ................................................................ in future lol

Are you dealing with Richard at Walton Audi. I bought my car from him not too long ago. He was good to deal with. Stick to you guns with the offer...find out how long they have had the car? That always helps with the bargaining.

this is getting closer to budget for me
on paper it ticks all boxes, but i'm still not 100% sure on a3 sportback looks

Will do. The car came in only yesterday as I have been monitoring used 3.2s for a while now. Lets see what happens...

I've been looking out for an auto S line Sportback 3.2 for a few months now.

I haven't seen many on sale only about 6-12 cars on sale at autotrader and 8-10 on audi.co.uk and they were at different prices ranging from 12-18K

Not looked into the 3 door cars much but have seen a few of the earlier cars on sale for under 10K

I'm in no rush to buy really, I just need a weekend car but nothing that stands out too much from the crowd as will be parked in underground flat parking during the day

thanks.

what do v6 come with as standard?
xenons
heated seats
etc. etc.

mine would be a 5 door option too, although the length of it doesn't make it as neat and sporty looking, as the mk5 r32 golf per say, so not 100% sure.

but the a3 are cheaper

theres about 2 cm if that between a sportback and a3 ??? ive had both a3 now i have sportback ,i love it i really do i like it so much better than 3 door, If i up grade it will be s3 sportback its just better people just getting in the doors kids etc i used to hate pulling the seats froward to let someone out and a sportback lowered 19s backlights mod looks the dogs im getting mine lowered 19s on this month il post a thread when i do

thanks.

5.4cm, not huge, but i think the tailgate and rear makes it look longer.

do you know the lenght on mk5 golf 3dr and 5dr?

thanks.

one sales guy is saying that xenons are standard but I'm not sure
Heated seats is an option
other bits and pieces are options too like rear parking, folding mirrors, door lights etc

I've seen cars with a mix and match of options only a few have everything that I want.
