Can anyone tell em what VAG com i need for my new car and my wife's new car please?

Mines that new S3 Sportback
And hers is a 2008 TT Roadster 2.0TFSi

I have installed all my new stereo etc and the airbag light is on now as, like a muppet I switched the ignition on whilst the glovebox was sremoved.

Do I need VAG com for this on my S3, or will one of those ceap ebay things do for now, with the free downloaded, limited software?

Looking at this now as I don't have a lap top, the MAXSCAN VAG405

Anyone had any experience with it?

I think this is what you need my friend. I have bought it:-

http://www.gendan.co.uk/product_VCMC.html

Good customer support from both Gendan and Ross Tech

No experience with MAXSCAN VAG405 but with the money you have invested in your cars you have to get the best. i.e. Ross Tech Cable. Lap tops a fairly cheap now or you could get an extension cable for your desk top!

I would dearly love one of these, however, I'm now skint due to the outlay on this car, so If I'm honest, for now I just need to reset the airbag light in the cheapest way poaaible.

I will be purchasing the VCDS software ASAP. But it will be a few months

Resetting an airbag light without actually checking what caused it? You're going a risky path there... Never ever deal with airbags or even think about clearing airbag codes if you are untrained on those systems or not able to determine what exactly caused those codes.

FWIW, you may not even be able to communicate with the airbag control module on the latest 2008/2009 models with a tool like the "MAXSCAN VAG405". VCDS though does work with the new airbag generation as well.

I do know what caused it though, it was turning the ignition on whilst the glove box was removed. (airbag on/off switch location). And you were right, the VAG405 won't link to the airbag system, does prett6y much everything else, but thte thing i need it to.

Guess I'll be ringing Genden.

Just got off the phone with Gendan, and ordered my Micro Can Cable.
Should be here tomorrow!!

Now just waiting to hear back fromt he dignosticsuk where I bought the VAG450 scanner from to see if they will refund my money as it didn't do what they sid it would. Never listen to anyone when they say, "it's a great unit, it'll do everything VAGCOM wil, and it's alot cheaper"

I've learnt a very expensive lesson.
