2.0T sline Avant Special Editions Quattro tyre choice?

Hi folks, sorry if there is already a thread regarding this.
I am just about on the wear band on my offside front tyre and near side rear (and they have been swapped front to back).
My car is a 2.0Tsline Avant Special Editions Quattro it has around 12K on the clock and has the factory fitted Continental Sport Contact 2s on it.
is this an average milage to replace the tyres?
My driving is a variety of town, enthusaistic country, 50mph avg commute and once monthly motorway driving.
What kind of rubbers are other Q drivers using and what kind of mileage are you getting?

I checked Costco yesterday and 235 40 ZR18 95Y equivalent michellin Pilot Sport PS2s are £177 a corner(fitted).
(Mytyres.com is £174)

Any comments appreciated???

I have moved from the Conti's to Toyo Proxes T1-R 235/40ZR18, you should be able to pick them up for around £120 fitted. I have only covered 5k on them but would rate them better that the Conti's for all round grip but road noise on some surfaces is a little higher. These are fitted on Genesis Drift Silver 8 x 18 wheels ( http://swtyres.co.uk/wheels/genesis/drift/hssr ) with a 33 off set so the overall track is wider, this offset was required to allow the spokes to clear the caliper. These are machined to fit the car so do not use spigot rings. I have used the Toyo's on my A3 3.2 with good wear results.
I am sure others will comment on tyre choice and IMHO it is down to personal preferance and the type of driving style.

I took my A3 Sportback 2.0 TQ to my local dealer for service/inspection this week @ 15k miles & was told all four Conti Sport Contact 2s (225/40/R18/92Y) are down to 2mm tread & need replacing. The outside shoulders of the front tyres are smooth, with similar wear on both sides. The rears also appear to have worn evenly on both sides. To add to the disappointment (as White220) at having worn out a full set of tyres in 15,000 miles, the dealer kindly recommended a full wheel alignment for £250.

Has anyone seen any improvement in ride, handling or wear pattern after a full Audi wheel alignment & what replacement tyres would you recommend to provide a decent balance between ride comfort, wet grip & wear rates? I'm not a racer, but I have really appreciated the quattro's grip in the wet and the recent snowy weather.

I'm looking at a full set of Goodyear Eagle F1s from Kwik-Fit at around £500 fitted if ordered & paid via their website. Any comments?

I'd also like the new tyres to have a really big rubbing strip to protect the RS4/LeMans-style wheels from kerbing!

I've been debating this tyre conundrum myself. Im not impressed with the factory fitted Contis. If they did one of:

a) outstanding road holding or
b) supa-durable (upwards of 15k Im talking), Id have forgiven 'em.

In my experience they do neither.

As a result, Ive been looking at the new Goodyear Asymmetrics. Havent really heard anything supa -ve about them so far. My priority is road holding b'cos Im not exactly light with my right foot, in which case the asymmetrics seem to excel; doubts remain about their durability though. Either way, I don't mind replacing tyres every 12k or so (which seems to be their upper limit) so long as they've been the bees knees, which is why I think they'll be my next investment.

Ive seen em for around £130-140 fitted btw.

I bought my Quattro back in August with 17k on the clock - I presumed the tyres had already been replaced.

It's on Dunlop Sport Maxx 235 40 ZR18 95Y and the car's now just done 30k and they look like this:

Front - recently swapped from rear:

I've just been quoted £135 to replace them like for like..............conti's were £170.

I was very happy with the Goodyear Excellence we used on our FWD 1.9TDI. £143 a corner in 235/40/18. Quite surprised how much more expense the 18" tyres are over the 17" we used as I paid under a £100 per tyre.

I'm running Goodyear F1 Asymmetric's on my RS4 after 7k miles they still have lots of life left - for comparison Michelin Pilot Sport 2's lasted 13k miles and Pirelli P Zero Rosso's lasted 9k miles.

Don't have any issues with their handling (wet and dry) or life - but be aware that they do seem to take quite a while to bed in, for the first few hundred miles you'll be thinking you made a mistake fitting them, but once bedded in they are a great tyre. They're top of my list to fit next time...

I am replacing my tyres soon with the Hankook Evo 12. Got fantastic reviews and regarded as being as good as the Eagle F1 Asymmetrics - just the Hankooks are a lot cheaper!
