Hi guys

Im not good in car parts etc. but what do you think about putting those plastic covers (with nice signs on them) on calipers? Anyone done this? How does it look like? Any issues? Also if i wanna get red stuff brakes do i need to get anything else? Cheers

If you just paint the calipers you have you are far far less likely to have the **** taken out of you :haha: just my 2p's worth, don't be offended

are they looking bad? ive seen some of them with s - line label (red plastic)

Do you really want to stick plastic things over your calipers though? It's not my car and I'm no-one to judge other peoples taste...just doesn't seem like a good idea to me!

Caliper paint. Then stick s-line badges on if you must (although S-line is just a trim level really and has nothing to do with performance, personally if i was tarting up my brakes i'd just have the audi rings on them)

Your car though m8! Although if you stick things over your whole caliper, how do you take the caliper off again? Need to see these covers in detail really before i totally slag 'em off :yum:

i think they look ok id have em on mine looks the part better than paint decals on to id get the rs ones you would look daft with brembo on standard disc and better watch them shits dont melt lol with high braking

im thinkig to get black s3 ones or s3 red ones. which one whould you choose for mine?

i just painted mine then stuck audi ring decals on! looks spot on in my opinion!:o.k:

suppose its down to personal taste though, never heard of these before. i dont think they are a good idea really, heat and plastic don't go well together unless you want to melt something!

I gotta be honest m8, they look alright as well  especially the black RS ones...

But! You have to glue them on. What if you need to take them off again? What if they fall off? That would be enough to put me off

I'm just prejudiced against fakey stuff. that, to me, is as bad as those dummy stick-on bonnet vents they used to do (anyone remember them? and those crap stick-on things that were supposed to look like quad lamps?)

They won't look bad. I give you that! But you'll know they're wrong  deep down lol

but positive thing is they may surrive longer than stickers... its only 30 pounds for nice looking fake stuff:) any more opinions?
PS. Sorry for my english im foreigner:)

i was worried bout decals coming off but ive had mine on for 7months now, and still there!

One more question. Do i need take calipers of to put that plastic staff on them? Do they look better than painted calipers?

like i say, has anyone got them or seen them on a car. Just i wouldnt want to waste £30 on something that might not last 2mins! just a thought:happy:

In my opinion, painted calipers look better than ones with "things" stuck over them. But that's just me, I'd rather wear a 5 quid watch than a good fake rolex :beee:

As they're stuck on, I assume you don't need to take the caliper off. Make sure you clean the crap off first otherwise they will fall off sooner rather than later. Maybe when you've stuck them on you'll find you can't get at your caliper bolts or something. You're going to have to try it and see!

I'm painting mine, when I can be ***** :beee:

here' mine, sorry but its the best pic i could find! you can't see the decals properly but you get the jist!

Can't say they are the best invention I have ever seen, surely the risk of them melting has to put you off putting them on your car. Your choice though.

Im confused now. The reason that i wanna put those covers is to avoid painting. i will give a go will see what happens:)

I would hope they are made from thermosetting plastic, in which case the wont melt. The biggest issue has got to be the glue you attach them with. You will have to get something with a high heat resistance, black mastic will not do! lol

Also I would worry about cooling a bit.....

TBH if it is plastic and you have to stick them on, you are better off leaving well alone. They may fool people who are not in the know into thinking they are real, but then people not in the know wont give too sh*ts about break callipers. People who are in the know will just look at them and laugh.

Do your self a favour, buy a tin of red hammerite for £6 and some sand paper. Clean your break callipers and paint them red....

my 2p's worth on the subject:hi:

Where is the best place to get a calliper paint kit?

I bought some hammerite smooth from b&q. Great stuff, only needs 1 coat, jus clean up with wire brush 1st then paint and leave to dry!

I got mine frommhalfords for £6.00 Job done! lol

APL u got right. im going now to buy paint. We put some pics after is done:)

Hotbox is it much work to take caliper of the car? cus i wanna paint all of it

I haven't had to take them off the Audi but every time I take one off a different car it's always two bolts...so I presume it's the same

I wouldn't have thought you needed to take them off to paint them though? Nuisance if you undo the brake lines too, brake fluid everywhere, gotta bleed the brakes afterwards, etc....

when i done mine i took the caliper off and it was such a pig because i couldnt rest it anywhere and when i had to put it back on it was hard, the hardest thing was to get the wire clip back in place. my other caliper i left on and it was fine, what you could do is take caliper off, remove disc and place caliper back on, but again, it will be hard to put disc back on as it takes a long time for the paint to cure!

in my opinion its best to just leave it on and paint what you can, no one is gonna see the bits that arent painted so why bother!

nice to see you took the painting option, post some pics when done!:sm4:

painting is defo the way to go, just imagine the damage if the plastic thing fell off!!!!! or melted to the caliper and brake pads!!!!

cheers lads. im doing this tomorrow. will put some pics after job done.

They meltt !!

Lol - my mate had them on his civic lol

Paint em :D

I got S3 345mm calipers in Red on my A3.

They're easy enough to take off - 2 bolts behind the disc on the hub of the car.

may be worth changing the pads if they're worn.

Or i suppose you could paint them with the calipers on the car.

BTW - foliatic make some awesome paint for calipers.

Good choice mate. Just make sure you give them a good clean with a wire brush first. It will look good once done.:salute:

Looking forward to seeing the whole car:thumbsup:

also if we are here any chance to have a look on my other post - rear suspension noise? I know u guys go a lot more experience than me.

I read that, but dont have much of an idea. Sounds like it could be bushes? But that would be a guess....

What type of coilovers are they?
