All I can say is.. nnnnnnnnnnnnnnoooooooooooooooooooooo!

Luckily some of the wait for the repair process will be taken up with misbehaving in Hong Kong.

Anyone else suffered at the hands of Bill's incompetence? :gun2:

yep but only one light is showing so I have to pay eighty quid for it to be fixed.
BTW its a fourteen month old xbox360 'elite' version,I think anyone considering an 'elite' should save their money and not bother as I have a standard xbox360 upstairs and its done more hours of playing and is fine even tho' its about a year older.

yep
this has happened to me before and i called up Microsoft xbox and they said to package it up ready for collection, within 2weeks a van came and collected it and 2wweks later i got it back ll working and for free

have you rang Microsoft yet?

I bought mine from eBay for £40 a year ago with RRoD.

Opened it up, applied some Arctic Silver 5 between the CPU, GPU and heatsink and then toweled the *******. :)

I have to towel it every now and then when they reappear. To towel it, wrap it in some thick towels and leave it running for about 20 minutes. Switch it off, let it cool down then power on.

To fix the problem permanently, follow this helpful guide:

1. Go somewhere very high
2. Hold Xbox 360 firmly in both hands
3. Release Xbox, ensuring it descends directly towards floor
4. Go buy a PS3

I recommend a falling distance of at least 100m or, preferably, if you can get there, the moon.

good post Pedro:respekt:, although id actually buy another xbox as opposed to PS3 personally having experianced both of late...PS3 is pants IMO unless you use the blueray

Jas you not sorted yet mate?

It got collected by some courier week before, should be home soon.
I wouldnt mind, but it never had any proper hammer, hour session here and there and 1 weekend a while back on Rainbow Six 2.

Bolloxs mine just ROD me tonight! second time its done it now, hadn't used it for over a week then switched it on for the first time to download the GTA addon and it crashed on me 3 times then i got the ring of death just after i started the download. luckly it then started up again and stayed on long enough to finish the download. If I send it off I wonder what the chances are it will come back with a hdmi port and a quieter fan

About as likely as hell freezing over mate! Mines as noisy as f**k now its come back, and the controllers will not connect! To boot, the UPS man that delivered it, was so rude, i wanted to feed him to the ducks lol!

Bill Gates has alot to answer for! :aggressive:

Well I spoke to a nice lady in mumbai a minute ago to sort out the repair as I wanted to do it from my work address and the online form won't let you do that. she said they will only change to the newer motherboard if the old one is beyond repair. in the mean time tho I think I might either buy an elite or a premium 60gb job and then when I get my old one back ebay it as I still have the box and everything. do you think its worth getting an elite? I hear they are doing a special edition in red at the moment aswell.
Yeah old man gates does have alot to answer for altho ps3 aren't that much more reliable. everyone I know who has one has had a replacement already. also mine gets noisey when the fans kick in just watching films.
Matt you'll have to add me to your xbox friends list for when i get back on, my gamertag is spamburg.

the elite isnt bomob proof is seems after reading BIGJEYs issues....ROD'd..... i have elite which is still working touch wood, silly thing is, is that you have to buy all the black gear to go with it

Right well I have just worked it out and my xbox only has a month left of the 3 years extended warrenty. looked on fleabay and there was a few for about £40. as mine will be boxed up like new I think might get that or a bit more who knows and maybe more if i bundle it with some games. I would like to change it though if not only for the hdmi port and the quieter (apparently) fan. so which root do i go elite or premimum 60gb? I am not too fussed about different coloured controllers or accessories as most of the time I can't see the damn thing anyways, although I think the black will look good next to my skyhd box. Also not wanting to sound like a spoilt brat but I don't think I can go a month with out it haha. I was getting well into W@W and was still loving the online on COD4. still atleast its payday the end of the week so I think i'll just go for it.

i just bought a 60gb premium a couple of months ago i didnt see the point in spending the extra on just just having it in black and with a larger hard drive and hdmi cable (which i already had)

id go for the premium unless you think you really need the extra drive space..........but you could just buy another drive at later date

Actually fixing the xbox when it develops this fault is quite simple, but it does require to get into the guts of the thing. The problem is due to the crap mounts that are used to fix both the CPU and GPU to the motherboard which overtime, because of the high heat these things put out, causes the board to flex slightly and screw up the connections.

The fix is to remove the original mounts, re-seat both processors, then use proper screws with insulating washers to fix them down properly to motherboard. Works every time, the most difficult part of the entire operation is separating the case without breaking the plastic lugs.

I just bought a elite in the end. sort of a last minute decision thing as there was only a £40 price difference on amazon so i thought why not. not sure if i will use the extra space in all honesty as i upgraded my ps3 hdd to a 320gb one and haven't actually got round to loading any thing on it yet. but until i get a transfer cable I will still be using the 20gb. so might even sell the 120gb one

I have been wanting to do this for a while as I love dismantling things and putting them back togeather, but i figiured as it was still under warrenty and it wasn't going to cost me anything so I might aswell take advantage of it.

Also a year ago when I had to send my xbox off, for a slight ring of death fault, it was sent to havant. but this time it was sent to frankfurt

This doesnt work in every case. its about a 90% success rate. sometimes it doesnt actually need the 'X-CLAMP' fix which your talking of, sometimes the old rubber trick can be used beforehand depending on the severity of the solder breakdown.
One of my mates xbox's just could not be fixed no matter how much we played with it. it was just dead and beyond help!

I will try this tonight. My xbox use to be my answer for saving money but now its broken.....Wish me luck!
