i'd be surprised if the s3 can go over 150, evan when remapped
my ihi'd golf, striped out, bar the dash, would get to 160 on the clock easily. in real terms, its more like 145ish i expect. that was a quick, light car.
i'm going to be very intrested to see what my a3 quattro does with near 400bhp, and revs raised to near 8000rpm

Don't be mental, there's no ******* way I'm driving a Passat at over 170mph!!! No, the W8 (not my one) has been tested flat out at that speed.
The gearing helps a lot on this car, but it shows you don't need a Porsche to top 170.

I'm not saying anything of the sort...
I am saying it's easy to get a ******** picture to try to prove a ******** point, if you want to.
I just find it hard to believe that I couldn't get my heavily modified S3 to break 150 MPH, neither could Audi when they listed their top speeds, neither could ANY magazine worldwide...using various accurate methods of determining speed.
But some people can get a picture of their standard S3 doing 160+ or their re-mapped S3 doing 170+.

Think a few S3 guys have pics of there cars at 170ish mph...best one I saw was Iggu OR Staz (maybe) on an autobahn with a better `background` in his pic. Not wishing agree either way but seems lots of the 8P guys have cracked the 160mph??? Think the pic I`m thinking of was actually reading higher than the above one?

Honestly Ess Three I have read your posts and sometimes you come over a little too sarcastic, but when someone says something back to you, you like to whip them with the naughty magic stick!!
Now IF your HIGHLY tuned S3 was not able to reach 150, then I guess it was not highly tuned enough! or even maybe it was not developing enough power in the later revs?
However I see your claim of a fake pic was directly aimed at S3 LTN, and now your saying it wasnt you, lol FUNNY LAD.
I have plenty of cars over 140+ taking into account drag etc but they dont seem to have any problems, VR6's (Highly Tuned) S3's S4's RS4's, anyways I think we should all learn to LEARN off one another not to get at each others throats.

Ahh...so mine was a dud.
It made more power and torque than any other at the time (on a K04), or since (equal with a few now) but it was maybe a dud.
Strangely, it's not just me that struggled to get a standard/re-mapped S3 over 150 MPH. Every magazine as I recall, and Audi.
But it's my old S3 that was evidently slow...
If it was as easy as some suggest, then ANY S3 would do it - including my old one - so pardon me when I view things without the benefit of rose tinted spectacles and doubt the claims of some - 160+ in a standard S3! Pah!
Oh, and to be honest, I couldn't give a **** what the speedo says...if it's not verified, it's worthless.
You really need to go read further back than this month.
If I was calling him a liar directly, I'd have said so directly. Believe me, I have no problem upsetting some of the cotton-wool people on Internet Forums who just can't see past their own PC.
Well Lee...that's a fair list. But 140, 150 and over 160 are completely different beasts.
Learning off each other is great...but when theory and reality collide, reality tends to win...so without concrete proof that some lucky Users have 'special' S3s that go 10+ MPH faster than every other S3 on the planet...I'll stick to detecting a whiff of ******** in the air.
But, if people want to believe that their S3 does 160 or 170+ MPH, good on them.
Might I suggest they go play with a car that'll do it all day long...and get a swift reality check in so doing.

The graph has 2nd gear on the S3 reaching over 60mph but i thought you needed 3rd for this (i.e in 0-60 times)???
Explained earlier in the thread but the S3 has two final drives, a 4.2 for gear 1-4 and another (3.x) for gears 5-6.
The graph was drawn showing top speed in 6th.

hello, I try my top speed and it was about 220km/h. By tables I should have 238km/h. So is my car wrong?
0-200 is 32 seconds acording tables and I have same time. But about 220 I felt some vibrations.
my friend have skoda octavia 1.9tdi 130hp chipped to 170hp and 240km/h is no problem.

95 octane will reduce your power as the car is designed to make use of 98 octane (or whatever the super unleaded equivalent is in your country) and will be a contributary factor.
There could be loads of other reasons why your car isn't making the 'book' top speed. A lot is age related as a car will loose power over time due to wear etc.
If it feels down on power then you may have other probs and without proper diagnosis using VAGCOM or something similar to see if you have any fault codes as a start point then you will be chasing your tail trying to find the problem.

Mate that's abit harsh, no real need for it is there, the bloke was onlying asking why he couldnt reach the stated book top speed, he hasnt said that he's wanting todo for a boy racer purpose has he, i.e. bragging to his mate's about it or doing it on a public road, for all we and you know he has attempted that speed on a private road.
Come on guys lets stop shooting people down as soon as they ask something that isnt "why dont my parking sensors work" haha.

What I meant was perhaps the most accurate method of determining speed was the method used by the police. This was in my head because I just got a letter through from Tayside Police giving me 3 points for 80mph on a motorway at 1.04am (should get a medal for only doing 80 if you ask me, but I ain't complaining).
No offence meant to anyone in particular!
