Hi Guys,

I picked up my car today at 3.30pm. There it was parked at a diagonal angle to the parking bay outside the bodyshop...it looked brand new.

I jumped out of the car (mum's car as she gave me a lift) and went over to inspeact the paintwork. Now, i was expecting a few little errors...lets face it- i paid £400 for a total- Roof, luggage rails, front pillars, both 3 quarters, complete rear end including boot and bumper repray- thats a lot of prepping, priming and painting!!

I used to spray Toyota's on the production line at their factory- so naturally i know the art behind a good paint job and working on quality control there too- i know mistakes when i see them...

So i'm looking over the paintwork like a blind man looking for a door handle and i tell you now- there is not one mistake, no heavy base coat, no clear coat run- absolutely fantastic job!! I was so happy i tipped him £60 quid- in hindsite- that was too much, way too much!! lol (I will post photo's tomorrow- proper class)

I am so excited now about oing the whole car up to S3 spec. I also forgot to mention- i left all the badges off the rear and man it loooooks goooooood!!

SO, need to get these lights sorted- Nigel i think i will have them parts off u please mate- what ther parts will i need?? This Bi-Xenon jobbie is gonna cost me more than the paint job..ha ha!! Needs must though hey!

Keep ur eyes peeled for these Bi-Xenons guys!

Also, as soon as i find an S3 rear bumper i will have my freshly sprayed S-line bumper for sale if anyone wants it!

nice 1 matey, good to hear theres still some good body shops out there!

cal

always plenty of Xenons on ebay.de, shame they are no use in the UK!

Isn't the rear bumper on the S3 and the s-line not the same, its only the defuser thats different or is that what you mean?

Good to hear!

Hmmm..Could you PM or even post the address no of the bodyshop - if its as good as you say it is, i might drop there and get my votex sprayed :p

Glad the cars sorted - now the hunt for the S3 bits begin!! lol

PM me fella then I can start to help you get some bits & these 2 things, I might be able to get the fogs that are what £60+ a pop & the S3 chrome grill.

If your gonna talk to them about work, mention you know me (Rich Youngman) i'm sure he'll give u a little cheeky discount if u mention me as i haggled with him based on my spray knowledge and i would bring him more business. (Christ- its that good, my Dad wants him to re-spray his van!!)

Regarding the front end, i think i'd want to buy the front as a job lot (i.e. bumper complete with fogs and grill-surely it'll be chaper that way??)

Based on the components needed for just the Bi-Xenons (and the recommendations i've had to do this bit first) i am gonna sort that bit before anymore spray/bodykit modding.

How much do you think i'm looking at to completely sort the Bi-Xenons??

No buying it all together for front end isnt always cheapest tbh, I got number of parts independently & saved me a fair bit, so dont instantly goto the stealers, I think if cant be sourced cheaper anywhere else then use them, I at the time bought some parts from them as none about but others got around.

As for bixenon prices, couldnt say for sure tbh, its a case of hunting about really, eg, the levelling module itself is £130 from audi so instantly saved what about £80ish & the loom isnt available from audi anyway except as a whole internal wiring loom.

Cheers for that mate - I'll drop him a bell and see how much he is!

If he is a lot cheap then my normal garage, I'll do the 1hr commute :p

Yeah no worries, I'll attempt (attempt being the optive word!!) to put some pics of before and after tomorrow.

Check us out, Saturday night on the forum...livin it up!!! lol

Im trying to hide from the other half - Im ill (Apparently!) lol. CBA going out as its feckkkiing freeezziinng! And im broke! lol

And do post the pics - Been quoted £300 for the votex kit fitted! See what he can do!

Not a big fan of the votex kit, it doesnt have the lines of the S3 one, yes maybe cheaper but certainly nowhere near as nice looking, front lip is horrible

I disagree - I love it.

The S3 is an awesome looking car (Yes, better looking than a A3 with a votex kit) but I'll keep my A3 TDI looking like an A3 !

Im not a fan of making my car look like something its not..

And if i do buy a S3 (which is the plan once im working again), they'll look the same!

Got a valid point there!! My thought process for dressing my A3 s-line to S3 spec kit was this:

1. I want an S3, can i afford it..yes!
2. Can i insure it (I'm 24) only just...
3.Whats wrong with my current car...not a lot
4. Is it worth the pain of swapping, changing, negotiating, picking etc..maybe?
5. Would making my car look S3 but not be branded S3 be fun??...Hell yeah!
6. Join a forum and pick the guys brains on how to do this...defo!
7. Source the parts...Absolute nightmare!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
8. Summary...probably should have bought the S3, but what the hell its an adventure!!

It will sure as heck be fun, unique and that sence of achievement once the car is standing and done will be immense. I've done this myself...

Werent having a go at you or questioning why you were doing it! :S

I spent £6k on my previous golf tricking it out with kits and 19" wheels and won shows and got Sponcered by Racetec UK and it was immense! Lost 6k when i sold it - doh! lol

But, my point of kitting out a car would be to make it unique to me. Hence the reason me not wanting S3 kits and S-Line bumpers or look a liking. We all have different views and different approaches on car customisation but for me, uniqueness is the way forward!

I werent going to say nothing but but NHN provoked me! lol. I havent got nothing against it and am not having a pop but that was simply the reason why I wouldnt do it! I enjoy reading your thread and hope you do get your car looking like a S3!

But dude, long term - S3 vs S3 Rep - I know which one I'd have! Sense of adventure is good and all but surely, tricking an S3 with mods (less aesthetic i know) should have the same effect?

Jsut a thought !

Glad you got the bodywork all sorted. I put a dent/crack in my S3 rear bumper a few weeks ago but have done nothing about it as I wasn't sure who to take it to (reasonable price/quality/recomendation). I'm in Nott's, your man is only up the road so I'll have a drive over when I get a minute to get a quote. Not sure if the plastic rear bumper can be repaired or not? I see your after an S3 bumper, had a quote for a new one at all?

Thanks for the feed back ......... and pics when you can :icon_thumright:

not had a quote for a new one no, was hopin i cud pick up a bargain from ebay, but its proving slightly more challenging than i first thought...!!

These breakers and salvage guys on there are ruthless!!

Youngman do you want these 2 parts or shall I stick them on the bay?

I want them Nige, just do me a favour though and break this down for me:

You have what for me:

And i will need:

To complete the Bi-xenon upgrade...

Headlights - hunt about for
Bixenon loom - I have
Auto levelling module - I have
Levelling sensors - will try & get for you
Levelling sensor looms - will try & get for you

Oh also dont buy a bumper from anywhere without making sure it has the headlight washers fitted or can be fitted, thats important given MOT's future wise will require this & the levelling.

Now I can get fog lights for you & I can also get the chrome S3 grill which is cheaper than the optik

Installer, got that sorted.

Interesting u say that about the washer jets for the lights- i was gonna get that bit filled and smoothed over as i feel it spoils the lines of the bumper- surely it is not an MOT requirement if the car didn't come with them as standard...???

Uh no, doesnt spoil it at all, you hardly notice them at all tbh, the positions, its the ones that dont sit flush that are ridiculous, some of them I've seen have been awful, but hats of to audi for making them flush almost since day one of using the tech, yes you will eventually get pulled on them in the future, so get them for sure, it is actually a legal requirement now but isnt enforced alot but from what I've heard it is to be along with number plates etc etc

I can say they're my favourite part on my car cause they make me laugh so much, reminds me of a Lee Evans sketch, lol, they just pop up spray the feck out of the lights & then hide again, like a kid or adult with a compressor based water pistol, lol

Myself and 2 of my friends have had work done by this guy, and I have to say the quality on all 3 wasn't good (all 3 done around same time) and I have also seen the results of some of his other work since which has been shocking. Nice guy tho but can't spray too well in my opinion..... Sorry it's negative but I'd just be a bit worried about recommending him even though he is very cheap

Can you allobarate - why wasnt it good? any pics ?

OMG...haven't been on in a few days as have been at a 3 day conference at the NEC.

Situation with the camera is...(bear with me on this one!) I went to have my teeth whitened last week and i took my camera with me to take before and after photo's of my teeth so i could appreciate the difference and i swear i brought the camera home but i can't find it anywhere!! Its a small camera (Sony Cybershot T7) but i can't see how i've misplaced it.

Now i'm back i'm going to turn over every stone to find it- coz it must be somewhere?!?!

As for the quality of work at Autostyle i cannot speak for other work performed by them, but what i do know is the repair and respray he has done is fantastic. I worked at Toyota at Burnaston in Derby spraying their brand new cars by hand for 2 years and this included a job split of Quality Assessment through light tunnels after the parts came out of the oven- so i have an eye for a perfect job.

Now i did make this clear to the guys there and they knew my standards were high (i don't know if this made them take extra care?!?) but i told him if i was unhappy with anything he would do it all again (I am quite intimidating aren't i?? ha ha!)

I will definately be going back to him for more work- Audi standard at Mates rates prices!...I'm a happy shopper! :rockwoot:

Sorry I haven't got any pics as I didn't get my camera until after the works were done.

One of my mates totalled his car and for reasons I won't go into the insurance company wouldn't pay. The dealer wanted 22k just to supply the parts required to fix the car. So he managed to get all the parts that he could from breakers, and got a new rear quarter panel, fixings for other things and wishbones etc from the dealer. Autostyle then fitted all the new parts, did the welding and did a complete respray. The panel fit in some areas was awful and in places there was really bad orange peel. Aswell as this he had left buffer trails all over the car. My mate has had to go back 3 times to sort various things with it, and it still isn't perfect.

With my other mates car, he drove into ditch on an icy road, so the front wing, passenger door and bumper etc needed replacing. The panel fit was again awfull and the door obviously didn't seal properly after and was really noisey and let in water. My mate was able to sort all these problems out himself.

With my car, I had a complete respray. I had some rust removed from the rear quarter panel aswell. In places there were really bad marks in the paint that wouldn't come out with polishing. On the bonnet there were bits where the basecoat looked really thin, almost white (car was red). He took the plastic arch mouldings off which I asked him to do after he said he wasn't going to bother, then replaced them with silicone which you could see from under the wheelarches. There was also red overspray on the black wheel arch liners. The rust on the rear quarter panel came back just over a year later. Oh and he didn't refit my rain gutters properly.

I have also seen him repair a heavily chassis damaged car since then, without properly repairing it underneath, and the resulting huge panel gaps would have been obvious to my mum. And on another car I have seen him use filler on a bashed in rear quarter panel that was way over an inch thick. Not a proper job in my opinion.

All that being said, all this was around two years ago so things may have improved. Was the guy Turkish by any chance????

I have found my camera!! woop woop!!

So will endeavour to upload before and after pics tomorrow! Can anyone tell me how i will post the pictures to the site (coz its never going to be as easy as copy and paste!!..that wud be far tooo easy!)

Lookin forward to gettin them on.

Jones-not sure if he was turkish or polish- he did have an accent though.

(Quite evidently i am sh*t with nationalities and accents, i'm one of those guys who whenever i do an impression of someone people say- was he indian then??? Grrr!)

Looking forward to the pics..

My bodyshop wants £500 to spray my votex but think thats too steepp....

But i wouldnt trust anyone else with my bodywork so think i need to start hunting..

Sorry for the sluggish response rate guys, am splitting up from my girlfriend after 5 years and as u can imagine things have been a little crazy.

Will get the pics on over the next few days, took her (the car- not the ex-girlfriend) through the car wash today- looks fantatistic....Hmmmmm...taking the ex-girlfriend through the car wash- now there's an idea!!! ha ha ha!!!
