Is it necessary to change water pump when timing belt is changed?

It's time for timing belt, service and tyres .....OUCH !!

When i had mine done, i just bought a timing belt kit with the tensioners and stuff and Didnt do the the waterpump.

Mine goes to a specialist so the guys know what they're on about - i said i want everything doing and they changed everything bar the brake fluid which i need to do as my new brakes have bedded in and my globe plugs - no one had them in stock at the time!

On the TT, we did do the waterpump as they fail quite often..we werent going to but the mechanic said it is well worth doing on that car!

Its up to you tbh. Thinking about it, If its a couple of quid (40ish) then you may as well as but my mechanics didnt advise me to do it...

BTW, mines a BKD Engine too.

Isnt the cambelt every 4 years or 60k? Which means your overdue arent you?

Id sort it ASAP as it snapped on my type r and thats been parked for 3 yrs now... needs a new engine :(

it's 4 years or 80k - car has done 70 ish now
going in next week. i knew 1.8T's were bad for water pumps

I havent come accross an A3 with a waterpump prob tbh!

I dont how much they are but as below, if they're not too much, you my as well.

I meant your overdue on the 4 years bit - I'll take it yours is a late 04 model like mine (oct-ish)

Whenever we do a cambelt change we always change the water pump at the same time, it just makes life easier as you are already taking everything around the water pump off so you might as well change it all.

If you did have water pump problems then you would have to pay pretty much the same amount of labour as you did to do the cambelt.

Well worth doing it all at the same time.

yeah november. We have waited until service was due.

A waterpumps £27 !!

Well worth doing at that price! lol

I should have got mine done - just hope it keeps working lol !

How much labour are you going to be paying - IIRC - mine was 5 hours labour to change everything bar the waterpump, brake fluid and globies !

EDIT: It says OE Parts - does that meant they're not genuine ?

they are quality german sourced parts and some of them are dealer depending on what they have in stock.

Labour I'm paying £120+vat which includes changing the oil and resetting the DIS. I'll change the air and fuel filters myself.

I think my labour was 150 all in but they supplied all the oils - i just had to get the filters and stuff! Hes a mate so got it a bit cheaper than it should!

Hope the service goes as planned - mine felt a lot better and felt a bit smoother! I also put some redex through as well just to clean up those injectors! well wort the £4 from Asda :p

you had a deleting frenzy ......

It's a family friend who's working on car. Rest of stuff is sourced by me but good prices - Cheaper than ECP
