I need two new front tyres on my s3, i was going to go for avon zz3's as they are already on the car and they seem a good tyre, however my local tyre supplier said they have been dicontinued.
They said that they stock kumho ecsta tyres and that they are on a par with the avon. I have had a look and i think the model is a ku3194y.
My mate who is a mechanic said that kumho are now as good as any of the other leading companies!?
I would be gratefull if anybody could help.

alright matey. i have the kumho tryes on my RS Turbo. i'd recommend them, definately do the job they're meant too. try them, ya shouldnt be dissappointed

i have to disagree, they're crap.. especially in the wet. dont touch them.

Aye men to that shy19s!! Absolute sh*te!! Cr*p in wet and will wear fast! You deffinately dont want to skimp on tyres when it comes to an s3! As the saying goes, you get what you pay for!!!

SJ

just wanted to have a few opinions on them as i had heard they wernt very good, but from what i have heard so far they sound fine.

just had a chat with my mate and he highly reccomends goodyear eagle f1's, can anyone else recomend these. im after a decent tyre although i dont want to spend silly money!

oddly enough i have them on my S3 currently but having only had the car for 3weeks they do seem pretty decent tires. obviously not tried the car with any others but im sure someone else can also give an opinion on them too. it all comes down to your choice at the end of the day! :)

out of curiousity how much have you been quoted on the goodyears? i checked at my local tire place and was quoted £120 a piece!?

I was going to find out tommorow but iv just found some on blackcircles.com £185 a pair inc vat, which doesnt seem too bad.

Goodyear Eagle F1's on the front, Khumo Ecsta's on the rear.

I don't notice much from the rear. 4WD kicks in quite a lot on roundabouts which leads me to think the car is sliding a little with the Khumo's, so I think Eagle F1's all round next as the front of the car has never missed a beat, no matter what I do with it!

Pricier than some tyres out there but definitely worth it. I find they perform well in both the wet and the dry and they don't wear quick!

Get some Eagle F1's I paid £85 a piece 225-45-17.

Excellent tyre, well worth the extra coin and will help keep you out of a hedge.

i definately need to shop for a better price then when it comes to replacing them. to be fair i think i'll probably stick with these tires the next time round, they seem pretty tried and tested on my car.......why fix what isn't broke hey!

Definatly wouldnt bother with the khumos mate. I had them on my s3 when i bought it and i thought i'd just wait for them to wear out before changing. Gave up waiting for that as in the wet they are leathel. Not to bad in the dry, but i wouldn't try pushin it to hard round a bend

everyone seems to be saying the khumos are crap in the wet, never drive the RS in the wet so i've never experienced that problem with them. ignore what i said about them pal - seems to of been incomplete review of them haha!!

Im going to go for the Avon ZZ3s this week hopefully.

Where were the Goodyear f1s for £85 from???

Wouldnt mind a set of them at that price!!

People also underestimate the importance of good tyres on the rear, its the rear tyres that stops your car from oversteering and getting round the corner at speed..
Tyres, i think its one of the fundemental necessitys that you cant cut corners when it comes to price.. of course it does depend on your driving, but anything 200bhp+ you need decent tyres imo.

Dont worry to much about how much they cost as its not something you do that often and £50-£100 extra could mean the difference between you on the road or in a ditch.

FK 452's. :salute:

Kumhos were pretty hard wearing but were poor in the wet.

Eagle F1's are the way forward, got a full set of 4 from Camskill for £290 a few weeks ago. Well worth it!!!!

Mine has Michelin PilotSports on it (on when bought) and they seem great wet or dry. Never miss a beat.

i have them on the front of my s3.....worse than useless in the wet, and not great in the dry either. had falcons before that, couldn't fault them in anyway and can be got at a great price off camskill.co.uk

Had kumhos on both my S3's, absolutely fine in dry and wet.

just ordered eagle f1's £200 fitted, couldnt find them any cheaper unless i travelled which would have cost petrol so would have defeated the object. il c what there like!!

Ive just ordered 2 Goodyear Eagle F1 Assymetrics - £174 fitted, should have them by the weekend.

Just to let you know i had the FK 452's fitted a couple of days ago and to say they grip well is an understatement!! very recommended!! i had eagle F1's and will never buy them again FACT!!! hope that helps someone out:arco:

I didnt end up getting the Assy's in the end, i ended up getting thed Eagle F1 GSD3's, and I have to say the grip they have is excellent, far better than the Michelins I had on before..

Good year F1's (Assymetrics or GSD 3's ) are in a different league completely.

I had nothing but F1's on my 8L S3 and they were the best ever. When I picked my 8P S3 it had 4 Kumhos on it, 8 days and 1 wet day later they were off!!! They were hardly used and had covered about 1000miles - they were that bad I paid £460 for 4 F1's. I would never go near them again!!

I think the tires are one of the most important parts of a car! Its the only part thats in contact with the ground! If i ever have to stop in a hurry i want some tyres that work very well!

I got some perelli's on mine atm as the car came with them on. They need replacing soon and im definately going to get some eagle f1's! Theres loads of reviews on them if you search this site and on google. All seem to be very good! I guess they do come at a cost though!

They are fairly pricy, but can you put a cost on your life???? (deep i know...lol)!!
