can the 'ambient lighting' be fitted to the 2005 a3? front and rear if possible,i had it fitted in my a4 but not sure if it is a easy fit to the a3.

My car ive noticed when the doors are opened have red lights on them or lenses should i say,but they dont work non of them are they wired and just need bulbs or wont they be wired. they basically light up red once a door is opened,im sure you guys know what i mean.

Robin does the kit & you will need vagcom

But I would take the door card of to check if any wiring in place or if they're just covers cause usually they're not fitted unless have wiring from what I've been told as what would be the point if no wiring, maybe needs enabling only.

Yep! If you just want the red LEDs in the roof, then you can buy the LED module for around a tenner from a dealer. Drill two holes in your existing unit (they are marked on the inside of your present unit) If you don't fancy that then you can buy a complete unit (with or without map reading lights) with the LEDs already fitted.

You can't buy a rear one with LEDs from a dealer, you have to drill the holes and fit the LED unit yourself.

whose fitted rears so far?

Has anyone done the door handle ones yet ?

Richard

You have to mark out where to put the holes at the back of the unit. This is mainly due to the small amount of space available. A bit of trial and error is needed here. I've temporarily taped the unit in place (on the p*ss I might add!) and you can see where to make the right connections so it works first time. My light unit is black, but good old Audi decided it was a good idea to get a grey one and paint it, so care is needed so you don't scratch it. I used a CD marker pen to black out the grey holes visible after I'd set about it with a drill. Sorry I've no before and after interior shots, but it does look rather good!

It looks a little busy inside the unit as there are two map reading lights in there. If your unit has no lights then I guess you'll have more room to play with.

Yes i have done them, you need to buy some new interior door handles, the ones for the interior lighting pack, and the LED's to go with them, i fitted them and wired them up to the circuit that lights up th window swithes!

and the door handles are: left - 8p4 837 019 d 7pe, right - 8p4 837 020 d 7pe

I'll try and dig out the wiring diagrams too!

I have a set of door cards that has the full lighting system for handles, rear of doors & the puddle lights, Bose speaker covers, folding mirror switch, so sensible offers are welcome & they fully work, I'm happy to remove parts to sell seperately for the right price & the door handles are 100% no damage, I know RobinA3 charges £50 for a modded loom without the door handle lights, mine are 100% originals & I have the door handle lights to which I'm guessing as with alum handles are not cheap.

Thanks for the above - I will find the prices of the items new and then go from there I think !!

anyone got part number for ambient lighting on a3 2005?

What??

Are you saying the lights in my doors + handles and rear of the car are an option? Thats ridiculous, how much is the option when new?

From the blurb...

Interior Light Pack. Illuminated door openers, vanity mirrors, storage compartment, footwell lighting, reading lights in front and rear, ambient lighting and active door reflectors £140.00

Depends on the model. It used to be standard on the SE version. But with the lastest changes to the model range it's optional on all models. It costs £140 on the Standard, SE and Sport and £85.00 on the S-Line and S3.

:| not even standard on the S3. tight@rses.

My rear interior light looks different to the one that John has posted as it doesnt have the map reading lights. Id appreciate somer pointers on whether or not its possible to install the LEDs. Here a piccy.

That does look different. Does the light legend on the switch light up? If so you can take a feed from there.

Unfortunately it doesnt but there are 3 x connectors going into it. You think id be able to get a feed from them or that mean it will always be on?

Do you have a test meter? One will be an earth, one will be a live from the door switches and the other one just may be from the lights, which is the feed you really want.

Let us know what you've got up there.

yeh mate, ill hook up a tester in the morning and see whats what. When you say one may be from then lights, is that the lights in the unit? Does your leds come on when the rear interior light comes on or do they come on when you switch your sidelights on like the front?

Does anyone know the part numbers for the light unit with map reading lights and the LEDs? Also the part numbers for the LED's and whatever would need to go with it to install into a S3 without map reading lights?

Vagparts is no longer so want to order from the dealer. Have no airbag light, got black rooflining and do have sunroof. How would I check without having to rely on an often incompetent Audi parts department?

Sorry I meant a fed from the car lights. My LEDs come on when I switch my sidelights on.

The part number for the LEDs on their own is - 8E0 919 063. I'm sure someone will be along and post an etka page with the various roof consoles soon.
