Hi All - My extended warranty is due to expire in March so I thought I would phone the dealer around the corner from work to see about extending it further.

They said--
1 Yr - £675 (upto 70k)
2 Yrs - £995 (upto 70k)
Now both of these include Audi Assist breakdown cover as well but I was wondering if any of you know any other companies (good ones) that I can phone as well for comparison as I've heard that some aren't worth the paper there wrote on!
Mine currently is a Listers policy but underwriten by Car Care Plan. Now the few times I have needed to claim I haven't had a single problem with getting the work done so I would like to stay with them but I would also like to know if there is anything cheaper to help drive down the price.

Also for those who have extended warranties...have any of you been sucessfull in haggling down the price on them ?

Seen as the warranty wouldnt cover general maintenance items, what exactly has failed on the car that you've claimed for in the past.

Our car is much older, but i dont think anything has failed on it in the year we've had it that wouldnt come under general wear and tear....

What exactly does it cover?

Thinking about the same thing with the wifes 116i BMW, not sure what to do.. Its in today for a steering column... it only has 13,500 miles on it, so doesn't give me much faith about having no warranty.

Tesco do car cover, also warranty direct etc.

Basically It covers everything a part from like you say your nomal wear and tear items. So far I've had 3 coil packs replaced and an airbag wiring problem. Now I know that fix these yourself would only amount to £100 or so but it's also the piece of mind. It's the first time I've had a car with warranty so I do like just sending it back to the dealer to be sorted and have no shock in paying a bill when you collect it (a part from the initial outlay of course)

Now I know the 1.8T suffers from the oil sludge problem so if that happened that that would be covered. I have also read about people having their roof locking mechanism replaced because it was faulty so again that would also be covered. The time you will benifit money wise is if something major went wrong other unexpectedly. A friend of mine had a B5 2.7 competition Avant and he took out an extended warranty a few years ago for £700 and then 1 week later his whole dashboard had to be replaced and that only ws £700 + labour so he effectively got his money back.

fair enough,

i can see though how they could be almost not worth the paper they're printed on, ie the company could turn round and say "well those coil packs have just worn out" or "well the roof mechanism has just worn out, you must use it a lot..." etc

I guess its down to getting what seems to be a decent policy and hoping that if something does happen, they will infact cover it, rather than trying to wriggle out.

I dont think i could justify the cost, and i'd like to think that buying a car like an Audi over a Citreon or ford or whatever would hopefully mean that things dont just fall off or break, although as you've said, stuff does go wrong, its certainly in the minority.

I guess its weighing up that £1k over the possible costs of anything that could go wrong over the time its valid for.

I know £1k is lot of money but I'm kind of thinking if I can a least get £100 off from haggling then I think I'll be happy. Thats £450 then each year and doesn't seem as bad.

Trouble is that the warranty will be due in March, Tax and Insurance in April and I'm going to Oz for 3 1/2 weeks for the GP in that time as well.

IMO waste of money. Most things that will go on your car will not be covered by warranty. I wouldn't even give it a thought. Just my opinion though.

Marko - Not true. I know you said that's it's your opinion but why do you think that ?

I have also just rembered that I've had the N75 valve replaced after running a scan through Vagcom myself and also had a intermittent light warning fault looked into and fixed. Again not big costs to fix them yourself but you never know what's around the corner.

I couldn't justify the money on "what if". Most things (fortunately) I can undertake myself so don't see the need to cover it in case. I'd rather run the risk and dib into savings should I need to have a major fix.

Now I've written this something will go bang!! :)

Thanks for that James. I'll look into them.

Just done a little research and as I have said that i've had no trouble in claiming with my present company for past issues I see that they have started to underwrite Tesco's warranty plans.

https://carwarrantyplan.tescofinance.com/product-selection-2

Finest Cover - 12months = £259.00

Terms & Conditions here.

They don't offer a 2yr option at present but I am thinking of going with this as it's a lot cheaper then my local Audi quoted me and it's underwriten by the same company.

What do you guy's think ?
