basicaly just interested in what sort of power you can get from the 180bhp 1.8t quattro sport with the k03s?i see a lot of ibiza cupras with a k03s and some other bits and a remap with 230/240 bhp.i would like an exhaust and a remap but exhausts dont seem to be that cheap so will prob wait till the standard one rots.

I would recon a reasonable figure would be 210-220 ish on a remap and exhaust. The k03s on the longitudinal engine doesnt seem to get the same figures that the transverse ones do for some reason.I assume the turbos are different specs

K03-S on transverse-engined Audi / VW is indeed different, for starters, it's larger.

Ian, if you're going to wait till your OEM exhaust rots before you replace with an aftermarket stainless / sport system, be prepared not to replace it.

They're double skinned, (the silencers) and the pipework is quite heavy gauge steel.

My '96 car's covered 215,000 miles, and still has the original system.

is it worth getting an aftermarket exhaust or is the standard one not that restrictive?

Not sure how restrictive the OEM exhaust is, but a quality stainless item wouldn't hurt performance.

the exhausts are pretty decent, and ye our '96 on 175k was on the original system, i changed the front pipe and cat for the last mot, but it hadnt rotted thru, the flexi had burst due to the engine mounts being a bit soft, and the cat had been gutted by some previous owner. The metal itself was all still solid.

Got just over 211bhp from mine with new custom stainless system, torque was higher than before though.
Was too loud without cat so that had to go back on, sounds better now just a bit louder than original. cost me about £248 fitted to cat. not bad compared to other systems.
Probably no need to change exhaust as standard one is fine.

Mine with a few mods was 229 bhp. I would say definately change the exhaust. The oem exhaust is quite restrictive. Mine was remapped at AMD with a Miltek and high flow cat plus Forge Dv. Agree with Sienna.....if you are gonna change the exhaust you will have a long wait till the oem one rots.

its just gone 175k now and its on the original exhaust.most other cars your lucky if you get maybe 4 years without replacing part of the exhaust at least.i never thought it would last that long.

Audi OEM exhausts last 12 years or more.

Miltek turbo back swapped out on a bone stock car does very little if anything.
Its the first thing I changed as I picked one up very cheap. wasn't expecting much difference but some would have been nice.

however when you crank it up with a remap or turbo swap it will allow more gains than the stock exhaust

I just remove the stock unit from my old 2000 car and there is cery little signs of any corrosion on it and would guess it would last another 8 year without any issue bar the flexy pipe going.

I had to replace the flexi on mine but that was due to it hitting things.

Also one of the rear brackets came off but I got it welded back on. Last pretty well.

The only way to get near thouse figures is to get a K04-15 turbo and if you have a look someone is selling a Jetex Exhaust which I'm sure he would sell for a nice price.

How restrictive are the OEM exhausts? I'm looking at a nice stainless backbox but can't afford to swap the whole exhaust. I want to get a remap soon but will the stock system suffice with a less restrictive backbox?

Sorry to threadjack. :)

Once you start cranking up the power you will want to reap the benifits of your well spent money and a full system will only aid the remap.

I was thinking hold of some of this:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/3-76-2mm-T304-Stainless-Steel-Exhaust-tube-PIPE-1m_W0QQitemZ220243524157QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM?hash=item220243524157&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1301|66%3A2|65%3A12|39%3A1|240%3A1318

but longer, removing the centre box and mating it to a new backbox. I am a cheapskate. Will this work?

Well if your keeping the K03 turbo then you dont want anything bigger than 2.5"-2.75" plus I hope you know what your doing plus removing the resonator will make the car drone so that may not be a good idea.

If you are looking to make your own system I have a universal back box I bought for my old car that never got fitted which you could have for £30 + P&P

As your in Cardiff pop down to custom exhausts in city rd just behind the plumb centre they are quite reasonable. I bought my own ss back box which they fitted and did the rest of the system including flexi.
I'm sure they will fit a back box no problem, have it done properly.
Docs back box looks good but would check about the hangers if you can have them welded on or use the straps that come with it.

i think i will just get a chip when i have cash.im used to more than the 180bhp so could do with it being a bit more livley.its still on the standard clutch at 175k so dont know how much longer it will keep going.

How much did they charge to supply and fit the exhaust? You bought your own backbox so they supplied a centre box and pipes from cat back?

£200 i paid £48 for my back box del. 6.75" x 3" i think.

As for longlife had one in the past but after they crushed the whole outer rim of two alloys of mine putting on two tyres I wouldn't use them again they tried to hide what they did even though took over 4hrs to change two tyres and told me they had problems with the machine they wanted me to sighn for the work before checking the car over. So they have lost a customer.

Custom would be cheaper than longlife give them a ring for a quote or pop down there.

Get it chipped lots of choice but chipped uk have rr days quite often with before and afters £250.
If yours is the same as mine your chip will need to soldered in so who ever does it make sure they are reputable and have done it before.

I fitted a Milltek resonated cat back last year, had it dyno'd at Star Performance and got around 190Bhp and 190 lbs/ft. Was quite surprised. When Jim took it for a test drive, he returned and asked if I was sure the car hadn't been mapped in the past :)

It drives much, much better now since having it mapped by JBS. No idea what it's putting out, 215Bhp and 230-40 lbs/ft perhaps?

I should get it dyno'd again, but tbh I'm not really concerned - feels quick enough for what is only a wee 1.8.

you got 10bhp from just the cat back?
I have a turbo back miltek with free-er flowing cat and mine is bang on 180bhp on the same dyno..........

how much was your JBS map?

Mine got 196bhp on stars map with a decat and straight through 2.5" system from the down pipe to the backbox.

I got it rr'd there before my map.

Jim did say that was very good for an exhaust on a standard car. He only took my car for a drive after the map.

Oh and I had a tank of Optimax in too!!

i could imagine removing the cat could gain 10hp, but lets be honest, any changes after the cat is going to do very little as the cat is so damn restrictive in the first place...

As has been said, i dont think you will see any difference in fitting an exhaust alone, and the stock system is not restrictive at all at standard power (restrictive exhaust = less efficiency so most cars built in the last 10 years actually have pretty good stock systems, barring the cat)

Even if your chipping the car, i really cant see any point of changing the exhaust if you keep the stock cat.

But high flow cats cost $$$. I could get a faster car for the cost of a full exhaust, downpipe and high flow cat. :3sadwalk:

Indeed, obviously assuming I had 180bhp to begin with. I have a printout somewhere with the figures.

Can't remember what I paid exactly, they had a 30% discount on at the time and fitted a forge diverter valve too. Think it was 380 quid all in.

They had to solder the chip in, took ages but the fitting was still free.

Regarding the car's output after fitting the exhaust, I am as cautious as the next fellow reg. rr readouts - that's why I took it to Star. Jim didn't get a good reputation by not knowing what he's doing.

I used to have an E36 M3 Evo, they had a terrible reputation for not making the claimed 321bhp. Most were around 290-300, but some would make the right figures and some would even make more.

Hi guys,

I know its not on this forum as of yet (will soon be)

But we are offering some 2009 Package deals - for example:

Custom-Code Phase 1 remap
Milltek Cat-Back
Green Filter

From the RR prices I think we have saved around £130-170 for this type of set up so it is something to think about!

We will be posting the deals on here very soon but in the mean time please feel free to give us a quick call on 01246 455005 and ask for Nino.

Kind Regards
Mike
