Numberplate light bulb type

Hey looks nice ,

Shame they are expensive ....

you need to get some legal metal plates mate look so much better !!

Ok, So I am fed up with the yellow effect in the car so I bought 2 of these...

http://www.autobulbsdirect.co.uk/26...m-available-in-assorted-colours-pr-16392.html

Fine in the main interior light. Crisp, white, clear  Not cheap tho, Total: £10.30 inc P&P

So I need to do all the other lights like the map lights, boot, vanity mirrors, number plate, glove box, door open light (dont know the technical term :search: When you open the door, there is a light that shines on to the road).

So I went to work with just the two I bought above and tried them out.
Worked in the vanity mirrors, worked in the number plate, worked in the boot. Pics below....

The map lights, door open light on road are a different type so I need to find ones that will fit the purpose.

So, now on to what I have read, if you use too many, you get DIS error or they dont shine as bright, all to do with risistence and fitting risistors helps but then you have the problem of risistors getting hot. So my plan is this (as I dont want to shell out a lot of candy then it does not work).

I have fitted the two I have in the number plate, looks amazin
Will order another two and fit them in the main interior light. If all is good with that, order anther three for glovebox, and vanity mirrors. All that will be left is boot, map lights, and shiney road lights. So this is going to take a bit of time to do but just maybe!

Legal Metal! I would love that.... any pics or a wee website I can take a look at?

They guy that done my number plates never don't it correctly and water damage happened at the bottom right hand corner. I do need them to have the GB as I am driving about it Europe and don't want a sticker or one of them GB magnets on the back.

Hi ,

i have some pics but not on this pc i can send you some later i have had them since they got these legal plates as they pass all the laws and covered by the dvla .

http://www.dubmeister.co.uk/

They do them with gb and without they look really nice i can send you pics later or someone might have a set on here these are not the illegal ones take a look on front page on the right !

I have them, there are pics on here of the legal metal plates. as its been discussed before, i think they look really good.. When i get my LED's ill try to post some pics.

just a note..... i bought two of the bulbs via the link for my number plate lights..... the bulbs were the next size up, struggled to get them in the holder TBH, managed it eventually (very tight)

looks awesome!!!!

I bought the ones posted by djakster, they have a board of bulbs and fits perfectly and with 12 LED's each they give a very good light

Good news I got my faulty bulb working in the end so no annoying visit to the dealers to get it looked at under warranty. Looks the dogs now and really freshens up the rear of the car.

on a similar note,
i wonna change my sidelight bulbs to match the xenons,
but on my works database there clpassed as DNA (do not attempt)
are they hard to get too/change yourself?
ive not actually looked yet either. ;p

Where do you work? Ive done them on my A3 and easy as pie... i recon the S3 should be nearly as easy. They pull out from the back

They can be done i have done mine ,

But they are a pain in the *** to do . If you good with diy you wont have a problem took me around 30min of ******* about lol:arco:

so which are the replacement bulbs that do not need any other changes eg festoons etc because i have no idea what they are lol. just want a set of bulbs that look like sandips that are just a straight swap. help lpease.

So here is what I have managed to do so far...
Driver and passenger vanity mirror lights (2 festoons)
Driver and Passenger puddle lights in both doors (2 wedge - 1 per door)
Main interior front lights (2 festoons)
Front map lights (2 bayonet)
Glove box Light (1 festoon)
Number plate lights (2 festoons)

Been running this for two days now, no issues. All pure white crystal clear, no DIS errors, no dimming of any lights as some of the 8P guys mentioned.

Still to do...
Boot lights (2 festoons)
Rear map lights (2 bayonet)
Front side lights (headlamps (2 wedge)) I did buy these but they are too blue and my headlights are pure white, I aint having two tone!

Photos available upone request :superman:

think they were the ones BL posted a link for on 1st page.... although as i said, they weretoo big and i had to stretch the holders - almost to breaking point to get them fitted....

i think 'festoon' refers to the shape of the bulb.... difference being normal have an element, LEDs have....LED's inside the glass part with circuit board so you need to aim them

Hehehe Tell me about it! (Does Look Good Though) :o.k:

I ordered more to do the rest of the work and like you Animal, they were slightly bigger. Bit of a pain but got them working, just tight fit. Did not phone or email to ask but they are definitely different to the first two that I got, slightly longer.

Bl i was gutted mate haha, then got pliers out and made the frickin things fit...cant help but think that they are lil expensive at that place though....time will tell if they blow

how mint does the back end look though....Ace!!

As requested, here are a couple of shots....

Main int, front maps and vanity ones

Puddle (not the best shot in the world and the garage has auto lights but they light up the road crisp and clear in the dark)

Hahaha Not as cold as outside.... it is 1°C here in Brno at the moment!

Seriously tho, looks mint inside, four people have been in it since done and they all want the exact same -tho they dont have Audi so they will need to work it out for themselves.

Check out this thread and scroll to the pics of the 8P in it. You will get the jist. Just wish I had his seats! In fact, the whole motor!

I think some festoon led bulbs need to be a certain way around. Just an idea

Ok i want to get some of these for my s3 can someone just post the link with the bulbs i need from ultraleads . Im guessing i need 2 packs??

good on ya is it just a swap there looks like theres loads a bits in that pack

i Was thinking what is the point them bulbs blow in such a short time waste of money

mad, apparently you get what you pay for with these.....time will tell, i'll post up if one blows as ive spent £12 on two of the chuffs!!

the actual bits that look like bulbs are just adapters that fit into the normal space. the white slab part is actually the LED's. its easy mate i've just done mine over the weekend, makes the rear of the car look miles better and fresher i must say, especially after a good clean and polish!

Inside the actual bulb im sure theres a resistor in there where the filament should go, so they should last a while hopefully. All the different bits are just the different festoon bulb types. All you need is the one second from the right (I think) and the white LED panel which clips into the bulb. When you get the pack you'll see its dead easy to fit

just ordered a set of number plate and sidelight bulbs to get rid of that nasty yellow glow :)
just need a set of plates to compliment them now, thinking of going down the legal metal route

I would get the legal metal ones they look sweet ;)
