Suzuka grey S3 Build thread

lmao, yeap a regular jack nicholas I am & why the hell not, better than being a miserable ***** like many I see around this country, if you cant laugh at these things then you've got no hope, lol

Anyway rear heated seats is an option on 8P's as I've got, never heard of an option that an S3 cant have, wiring is probably for fuel tank sensor etc no as thats where its going into I think, unless the rear seatbelts have a warning system aswell which I doubt but never know, have to check the latest schematics

& leds eat very minimal power its when the xenons are on, but guessing if coming home is the leds now then not a problem but think matts just saying watch yourself with xenons on at night auto mode as that'll flatten in minutes as I had same issues when working on car & they came on auto, dead within minutes when not starting, damn things eat power like anything

nothing wrong with a joke . But taking the **** is diffrent .

just had a look cant figure out what it is .. Possibly a weight sensor for seat belt . But car doesnt bleep when rear passengers dont have belts on ..

no such option . as rear heated seats on an s3 . .
There certainly was when I ordered mine and there still is now:

I don't think I need to spell out my views to our more discerning readers.

ah never spotted that before .

Oh god lighten up I've seen worse, whats the matter with you man its all in good humour & light hearted, there are far worse things in this world than to get worked up over that kinda spirited joke, take the **** whatever you wanna call it, see the funny side fella, I mean seriously look at the size of the battery in the housing now, you gotta admit it does look odd & funny, lol

Anyway the rear heating has a sensor in them I know this, is it actually a socket/plug sitting there not plugged into anything or is it plugged into something in the round black areas

& it wont bleep now as no seat belts anyway, lol, hey I had to, lol

"jack nicholas" - he plays golf I think.

Hey honestly, my battery is dead, been in italy for a week & its complete gone, luckily I have one of these & going by the size of your battery you should keep one of these in the boot, only problem is it might add some of that weight back in the car, lol, hey had to, last one promise,(seriously though battery on mine is completely dead) & I have got one of these aswell, so guess the laughs on me at moment, but at least your laughing now(I hope)

thier is a white VW lupo that is lowered, bodykitted with tinted windows and Red alloys at my work (nice cute 19 year old female driver!) it look great and very different. Go for RED wheels.

Yeah it must be that, I mean the S3 & S4 I actually bought myself not bought for me, certainly makes me jealous of anyone, please as already said grow up cause jealousy is certainly not one of my traits full stop, lose the stuck up attitude, its harmless fun & we've all had it on here for things we post, seriously lighten up ok cause we're not neccessarily laughing at you maybe with you, know the difference cause before now alot of us have had constructive posts on your threads I believe, I've had jokes at me on here many times, harmless banter

whoa one more thankyou & I get a set of steak knives, lol

so anyway did we figure out what the wires were on the rear lower seat area?

cant belive im being told to grow up . Staz open ur eyes making pethetic comments . I clearly stated dont comment if u dont approve

Not sure what's gone on here, but I actually think the whole weight saving thing is a pretty interesting route to take. OK, not practical for every day use, but why not? It's greener, add's significant performance gains (the equivalent of a map if you get enough weight out!!) not to mention the improvement in handling and braking.

Do you know how much weight you've stripped out in total yet alex?

Kettle & black seem to stand out from your posts & if you cant take the bad with the good on work you do to your car then maybe you shouldnt ask, cause thats one of the main things on nearly or I'd say all car forums, opinions good or bad, dont expect everyone to go around praising you & patting you on the head for every mod you do to your car, I certainly have had some comments & I can assure you certainly not all positive either but thats life

& going over to S3talk with that kinda attitude I would say wont gain you many friends either, I suggest you move on & take it with pinch of salt & accept opinions good or bad, I had to

Personally my TT vents make my car go faster no matter what people say :yahoo: but its the damn bike towbar that slows it down

Seems its a tough audience tonite, I tell yer

Ok ...

This is my first post in here... First the weight is everything if you are looking good car and with good performance for handling...

Example. What about GTR R35 Nissan ? Ok its very heavy car and if it has those 200kg less weight, that gear box could perhaps handle the power what that huge grip makes...

This guy is not going to do car for you.. He is going to do it for himself... !!

I dont want to be mean, but those people who just said, that 10-20 kg is nothing and it is just a waste of money... => Ok !! What about if you just someday drive on a race track with your girl friend which could weight something like 50kg-60kg and then make the best lap time what you could .... After that just try to beat that lap time without your girl... You could be surprised...

If you dont know ... please test first and then speak... :friends:

I think he said 50kg's

The problem is that getting really significant amounts of weight out without stripping the car bare is very difficult.
50kgs is about 3.5% of the car's overall weight, not including the driver.

I'm not saying this to have a go at the OP,as it's his car to do as he wants with, but the resale value will be interesting.

One of my cars was an ex GpN Escort Cosworth, and to be quite honest, saving weight as a means of gaining significant performance was easily as expensive as some of the engine mods, and also nowhere near as significant as taking the car out on a really cold day.

Yeah but Jamie that is a pretty lightweight chassis to start with. The 4WD S3 just isn't a lightweight car in the same sense. No matter what you did you could never turn a great Dane into a greyhound - its skeleton would always be too heavy. I suspect this is one reason for JonnyC moving from a quattro chassis to 2WD - now that IS one way to go lighter !

Agree 100%

Maldex Where did you get your turinis from and what size and offest etc are they?

cheers

The S3 is exactly 100kg heavier than the R26. If as you say, the R26 is a lightweight chassis to start with, then Alex is half way to having a lightweight S3, just by removing the rear seats.

I see what you're getting at there, but my point was that 50kg amounts to a very small percentage overall, and you would need more radical savings to make a real difference.

True,50kgs out of an R26 would be better still, but it depends on how far you can go,and then what use you can make of those savings.....and of course if you have plans to re-sell the car at some stage.

But that's Alex's point. He specced the car up to increase the resale value, so obviously he plans to suitably store everything he removes, and reinstall it all when he gets rid of the car.

Fair enough...I missed that.

I think though that the real thing about this is that weight saving is fine, but the gains are often small, and can be outweighed easily by gains elsewhere.

Real weight saving isn't easy, and you need lightweight body panels and glass(acrylic etc) to make big gains.

Well pointed out mitch ...
Right like ive already said im not just stripping the back seats out. Thats to easy .

Here is a list of my weight saving program:
Battery 10kgs
Back seats 40kgs
Side bolsters,Sunblind,Spare wheel and accesories 15kgs
Seat belt clamp 5kgs

Soo 70 kgs approx have been removed so far ..

Soon to be ..
Exhaust de-cat non resonated should save around 20kgs .. (not sure exactly how much a cat and 2nd silencer weighs ?
Evoms intake posibly another 5kgs (not sure on weight of heat shield)Stock intake weighs 7.2kgs
Speedline turinis .. 2.5kgs PER wheel Approx
Removing some minor sound proofing from underneath the car . *TBC*According to audi 20 kgs can be removed safetly and efficiently *TBC*.

So thats another 40kgs (estimated atm)...

These figures arnt exact , when i get home i can tell u the exact figures becuase i have it all written down . But this is near enough

So that would make a 4WD S3 lighter than a standard 2WD R26. How can anyone argue with that?

Im very suprised on how much weight saving is easily achiveable .

Well....good luck!

In a little while you should have a car that admittedly looks a lot better than my GpN Escort did,but will be getting close for noise!

Please don't think I'm having a go.....I'm not...all I'm saying is that there are easier ways and probably cheaper ways of getting your car to go faster, and after living with a completely stripped out car(zero soundproofing,no carpets,no rear seats, lightweight everything that was possible etc) it can be a bit wearing on anything other than short runs.

Mine would almost have made your ears bleed, with the engine, straight cut gears,2 fuel pumps and all the other bits.....even the heater(haha) had been lightened by Ford, and my friendly engine builder removed the ABS as being "not for real drivers"....or real men....I cant remember which:laugh:

P.S....removing the spare may seem like a good idea, but you'd better have runflats if the plod find you.
