Hello all,

Im looking for a tuning upgrade for the a3 to get it to around 170bhp, i have a friend who runs a tuning box business "DPT tuning". Hes told me a box is available for the new comman rail engine now and its £275 + vat. But id thought id ask you guys here first your thoughts / experiences as ive found theres so many boxes on offer and prices vary incredibly:-

Im wondering if anyone on here has ever actually tuned theyre facelift 140 2.0 tdi, comman rail.?? And if so how did it go down? Im tryting to stay away from actual ecu remaps and stick with a removeable box for obvious reasons.

Just for your info ive been searching around and found a whole load of options for the new comman rail 143bhp 2.0 tdi engine, links here:-

DPT = (MY FRIENDS BUSINESS) Price £275 + vat (non adjusable apprently but dealer can reflash via laptop)
http://www.dieselpowertuning.co.uk/product_info.php?page=all

BHP+ = Price £293.60 inc vat (This one quotes great bhp increase and it has the remote fob adjustable funktion which sounds really handy)
http://www.bhpplus.co.uk/pages.php?type=A4+2.0+TDI+143+BHP&pageid=24&make=Audi

I then had a look around ebay and got offered some digital units priced much cheaper, not sure if these are adjustable or not though?

DTE TUNING ON EBAY - £139 - Unit is adjuable via circuit jumpers inside of it apparently -Only takes upto 165ps though the guy said

Then i found these "CRD TUNING" cheaply priced units on ebay at just £64.00
it says its for the cr engine (comman rail too) and quoting 170bhp power so sounds good guy has good feedback too in germany.:

Wondering if any one can shed any light on what works best etc or im i the guinea pig here lol

heres a few pictures below .

Heres some pics of my new a3 sline, we had it a 2 months now but here are the pictures from when it arrived - Hope you like :)

Nice A3..Looks great

but loving the Evo VI :p Any more pics of it? :p

The cheaply price ones arent that good TBH. They produce a lot of smoke and soot.

I'd stik with the well knwon companys TBH.

I;m getting a ST3 chippduk for my A3 2.0 tdi 140 PD (£300) - chippeduk

But Bluefin are good and are £390 - superchips

These are plug in but you can remove them but whether this is completly removed from the cars memory is yet to be found out as it is being argues both ways. Some say the dealer tools can see it but some say they cant...

Yes i was thinking some look a bit too cheap to be true, ive been looking a bit closer at the dte systems one ( £139) seems a decent buy as its fullly remapable too just like the the circa £300 ones so im thinking that could be the one to get, not too keen on the remap idea tbh as its means tampering with the ecu itself. , like you said though i have herd about the revo style remove it yourself maps.

Glad you like the car im really pleased with it, just had a problem the otherday with the car not starting no dash lights nothing and clock reset, been intermittant for a couple of mornings, turned out to be a loose battery connnection what audi havent tightened up correctly lol

As with the evo shes the rally slag toy lol, had her from near new and spent a fortune shes runing 520bhp and rs differential setup, ill get some more pictures if you like. :)

Chipped UK are the only company I know of that can map the CR-140, gains are around 35bhp.

This would be better than any tuning box, these are just based on a resistor that fools the ECU into throwing more fuel in, absolute junk and waste of money in my opinion.

Yea im aware theres a few companies offering remaps not really a route i wanted to go down though tbh. It appears alot of the diesel tuning boxes £120. - £300 are digital microprocessor controled now and can be flashed by a laptop etc and transferred car to car etc so theyre more than a resitor in a box i think really.

So no one on here using one???

I disagree, it's just a tarted up box that fools the ECU into supplying more fuel.

The fact that it sits in between the original wiring loom would suggest its just interfering with electronic signals.

I mean, how is that box supposed to control boost?

I'd personally wait until more of the reputable tuners develop a real map (i.e. Revo, Superchips, Custom Code, APR etc.) instead of sticking a £65 box on a 23k car!

I wouldnt go a for chip box - as above, they trick the sensors. If i were you, id start speak to chipped UK etc. about blufins and superchips ST3 and ask them whether it is detectable by the dealers and your best bet would be one of them. they're reputable and if theres any prob ,they'll help you but TBH, i would trust anyone else.

Aww...I wanna slag but no space on the drive, insurance is still sky high for me and i doubt i can run one with my part time job and uni.

We use to have an Evo 6 and an Evo 8 (i use to share the 6 with my unc) but sold up as i wanted my own car..

Here's a quick pic!

Got loads n my comp at home

I cant remember exactly but we had a walbro fuel pump, straight through exhaust, raliart ECU, Tein Collies, Massive induction, battery was moved to behind the filter, a boost controller adjuster thing, turbo timer, boost gauges etc. ! I think it were running just shy of the 400bhp mark but the rear diff kept locking up so sold up.

I miss it though ..

The evo 8 was a beast:

That were running 500bhp at the wheels :D Cant rememeber what he done but it were awesome :D

Sorry to hi-jack your thread :D

And yeah, get more pics of the VI up :p

I thought I would just clear up a few things. The good plug in boxes do work and are very good. They are not just a resistor, the DPT and BHP+ boxes are both top products and we are dealers for both. We have installed loads and everyone has nothing but good comments for them. They work like a remap, but they do not increase the boost pressure. They alter the signal to the injection system to increase the fuel delivery (like a remap) to give more power and torque. The more expensive units like the DPT and BHP+ are more expensive as they are quite complex and are very well set up. The DPT unit is acutally approved by Mercedes in Holand to be fitted at their dealerships.
One of the good thing about these units is that they do not significantly increase boost pressure and put the engine under excessive load hence why Mercedes in Holand have approved them.

I have a few BHP+ units that are on special offer at the moment at £225 inc VAT if anyone is interested.

Superchips are doing a sale on their bluefin.
£391 including VAT and UK delivery.
Got an email today.

Superchips don't have a map for the common rail TDI engine yet.
