I was so inspired by seeing Millduu's new bumper than i wan't to fit one myself.

My problem is that i have the pre-facelift model which doesn't have a single frame bumper, the 2004 model 3 door.

I have read somewhere before that i need to change the bumper and the hood to fit a singleframe/s3 bumper, but no offical thread describes this.

Does anybody know if this is the case if i want to get a s3 bumper?

I wish someone with a pre-facelift would experiment on this. My bets on that you don't need to change the hood. Just the bumper and extra bit like the big grill etc. Anyways... as much as I would love that s3 bumper, I settled with a cheaper option from ABT. see my gallery. It's a 2004 A3, there's a black plastic cover that makes your preface lift look like one big grill. Clever until you look at it very closely.

Yes i have seen a 2004 model with a facelift bumper, and I asked the owner about it and he said he changed the hood and bumper... but maybe he misunderstood me, for all i know he was in a crash and replaced everything.

The ABT and other types of single frame lookalike products don't look as good close up like you mention.

i will be doing this definately - i have a 2004 and want a facelift bumper - not the new s-line bumper the one which still has the bump strips on it

dont know when i will get round to doing this but i will keep you posted!

Don't know whether Hofele will bring out an S3 style bumper - they seem to have the best looking (and most expensive) facelift kit currently - using their own bumper and new Audi grille (bonnet does not have to be changed as I understand it). Think the website is www.hofele.com.

Yes but the hoefele looks terrible as there is a big gap between the hood and the grill...

Yeah - see your point with those two pics (won't be pursuing that route now!) - can't see how it can be done without a new bonnet etc in that case - which presumably is mega money . . ?

plus the hoeffle has rs4 type slats on the side of the bumper

Yep, and that only looks good on an rs4 ;)

I snapped this picture as i was getting my car @ service ;)

I will soon be swapping my mums front bumper , currently its pre face lift, with the two seperate grills, personally , i cannot see audi changing the bonnet as well as the bumper, But we will soon see , its being sprayed in few weeks , then i will have a go at fitting it . and i will let you guys now the result .

you can se on my picture that my bonnet is straighter where the grill connects, while the s3 is rounder

very slightly - also between the chrome frame and front lights on the s3 looks wider!

Pre-facilfts absolutely, 100%, need the new bonnet to fit the new bumper. There is no way around this, except for the horrid (imo) Hoeffle bumper.

So you at least need thenew bumper, grille, and bonnet. You may also need new foglights. You may also need new undercarriage shrouding.

Cheers for the photo's, now I can see what they mean. Looks the "dogs bolx"! very nice! unfortunately couldn't quite afford that look. Had to settle for the cheaper option (expensive for what it is.. / simple) front panel from ABT instead...

Hi Guys
something I can definately help with the 06/07 bumper will not fit the 04 model as the lines of the bonnet do not match the lines of the bumper and the 06/07 bonnet is 1 inch longer than the o4 models its a long story how I found this one out as my A£ has an Ottenger kit on it after a 9 month wait just for the front bumper to be made it is the first one of the production line

hi guys,

Techimike, what are you saying?that the pre-facelift model(2004)cannot support the new 06/07 bonnet and bumper?or just the fact that you need to change the hood in order to mount the bumper from the 06/07?

because i have the pre-facelift model, and i want to mount the s3 front, and from what i've heard, i have to buy the hood, bumper, grill, and the fog lights

thanks

Change from two grills to one you will need a new bonnet and obviously the grill and front bumper. Quite a few people have done it on here NHN has done the s3 front and im still doing mine. MATTANDREW was first i believe to actually try it. He is his thread...Quite a few members on here are actually changing and going for the one grill look
Hope this helps

benskin07, thanks for the reply
MATTANDREW made the conversion to the s-line front bumper, and i wanted to know about the s3 front..
by the way, if you are doing it, can you please help me with the code of the s3 front bumper, because there are a lot of s3 models, with the first facelift, the second, etc, and i don't know from what model/what year should the bumper be..

Yeah its the same as the s-line conversion really. Yes more then happy to help. 'NHN' aka nigel has done the whole conversion when i first decided i want to do this he helped me out with all the infomation i need and still does now really.
What would you like to know part numbers? And what you need?
S3 3door 2006 or 2007 bumper. I think you can still use 2008 bumpers not 100% sure as i've seen some 2008 s3 around by me with the new head lights etc and there on 08 plates. So i got a 2007 plate s3.
When i get home i'll post part numbers up

I changed my mind and prefered the look of the car with a few minor changes plus - if I plan to get a new A3 down the line I would like something to look forward too

Plus, I searched high and low for the votex lip!

thanks again,i only needed the code for the front bumper, as this is going to be the only change for now..i will check which of the codes is good and post here.
do you also have the code for the hood?because i also have to change the one that i have from the pre-facelift..

Aww thats fair enough...Haha votex lip are hard to find and at a good price. But must say your a3 does look good

will a 2007 s3 back spoiler definately fit an 04 pre facelift model? my local audi dealer told me it wouldnt? also does anyone know if s3 side skirts will fit, as its something ive not really heard much talk about on here..

No it wont, you need the bumper too. It also wont line up correctly with your exhasut pipes, the S3's are slightly to the one side so you would need to have something done custom with your exhaust for it to look right.

skirts fit fine as I've done sides & front, be warned you need new sills aswell & door bottom trims as wider, the rear valance can be modded to fit as I stuck sline on my sport upper bumper, the exhausts lined up fine for me straight away & a dremel can assist with that & still look oem

I personally think the RS4 Hofele bumper looks great on the A3

sorry i meant the rear boot spoiler as apposed to the rear bumper spoiler..

aha now becomes clear, funny cause I also was thinking that as I prefer the rounded edges, I think it will with some modding on the inside but you need to compare a facelift boot top with an 04 one to see if any dimensions differences or curves in wrong places, but overall anything is possible with a dremel to trim the spoiler internals down to fit fella, easily.

Boot spoiler would be direct fit, theres no difference in the hatches. Just make sure your get the right one, 3 door or sporback

The hatches are the same on all 8P shape cars, doesnt matter if S3 or S line, they will fit

I had the hofele bumper fitted to my car and I can say that it looks no where near as good as the original s3 bumper. There was alot of filling involved the space between the bonnet and grill is not straight, the washer jets covers dont fit 100%.
I made a complaint when i bought the bumper to Hofele and they said that this is how their bumpers come.

The conversion cost me around £800 and I would not recommend to anyone to use the hofele bumper.

The reason that I did not go down the original S3 route was because the bodyshop said that there was too much modification involved to get the original S3 bumper to fit.

He did show me an A4 conversion from double to single grill that he had done which had a front end smash and you couldnt tell that it had been converted although he pointed out to me the mods that he had to make and how hard it was to do.

What cutting a few bits off of the alum carrier bracket too much modification? The rest is all bolt on, 100% bolt on if you pay the extra and get the correct bumper carrier too. I think for the expense extra of the bonnet that you would have needed, the S3 route would have been more satisfactory as you have found out. It the reason I havent bought a £60 roof spoiler off ebay and will be getting the Audi Votex one after christmas.

what a load of complete ******, lol, mods to fit, this guy spun you a line, its pretty much bolt of, bolt on, whats this guy telling you, I can say cause I've done it, only mods I did was change the headlight washing system pipe for longer only if have xenons, change fog plugs & fogs & remove a small angle bit of the front bump bar, those things wernt hard at all, infact ****** easy, took time to do but only cause I'm being careful thats all, but certainly not hard to do whatsoever

Now the a4 might be bit more cause bumper change & wings were different, but even that isnt that hard to do really is replacing whole front anyway from accident, its only parts change not chassis from what I recall from a B6 to rs4 B7 front

He will be getting a good kickin from me then! The worst bit is that I know him quite well!
