Benefits of Switching From 17" to 18"

Hi all.

I am sure this has been asked many-a-times before but i'll just add to the list.

Other than looking better in 18's, what other benefits would you get? or better still, what disadvantages would you have?

benefits - looks nicer
disadvantages - worse ride, probably worse handling on a circuit as well, more expensive tyres, easier to curb alloys,

but 19's look better!

Ouch =/ Sounds pretty bad heh. I feel like my sports suspension gives me abit of a harsh ride as it is.

Is there any way of making the 17's looking slightly bigger? e.g. profile 40 instead of 45?

Well I had the BBS Calitos in mind. 18" with Goodyear F1, Goodyear Assymetrical or Pirelli P Zero Rossos all in 225/40/18.

I went from 17" to 18" on a previous Mk5 Gti and it felt much better.
Ok the ride was a little firmer but certainly not uncomfortable.
Defo worth it.

17"s were Ok in the 90`s

Going from 17s to 18s you will not feel that much of a differance. 18s to 19s is a differant matter, but 18s are best of both worlds. The 18s look better and don't destroy the ride.

Well my A3 Cabrio Sline is running on 18, picked up a courtesy car from Audi this morning while some warranty work is done on the cabrio. The courtesy car is a bog standard A3 Tdi & compared to my cabrio I find it a far worse ride.

Thank you all so much, put my mind at ease about the whole thing.

Just need to decide now whether to get RS6, BBS Calitos or BBS CHs and whether I should go thicker than 225 or not e.g. 245?
