Turbo upgrade :)

Excellent how'd the sprint go then?

You got a tune/map lined up?

Wish I'd made it to GTI but my mate split up with his missus and we had to drown some sorrows!

my car was dead slow, but it was great fun. 16 secs 1/4 ,as for the tune, i am going to give chipped uk another go as custom code wanted 450 inc the 40% discount for the day as it classed as stage 3. I really fancied the CC one but just cannot afford that.

Bet you'll destroy 16 secs with your new map.. like you said still fun whatever.

Yeah.. I'd say that's a bit pricey too!.. specially if that's including 40% discount. Really £750.00 ******'ell I'd want an engine thrown in too! lol

always thought Turbo timers were a bit too "Fast and Furious" for my liking.
nothing like a few minutes of slow driving to cool down

..by that I take it you mean a modern masterpiece obviously?? lol

FMIC is now fitted..

Bumper off, FMIC and all pipes fitted (had to re-drill and cut brackets)

Managed to fit the intercooler in without cutting the bumper (shaved some plastic off though)

All fitted and ready to go..

So then..

The drive home from the workshop was fun!! I failed to fully tighten a jubilee clip on the intercooler and with even a hint of boost I was getting a really loud squealing noise, scaring old folk and children lol.

After finding the jubilee clip that needed tightening everything was in working order.. There is no obvious change in performance but the main reason for fitting the FMIC was for the remap which will follow ASAP!

Since fitting the FMIC my turbo seems to be even louder when spooling up which is good IMO.

I was really rushing to get it all done.. hence the jubilee clip being left undone but I'll try to get some more detailed photos.

I'd definitely recommend the Autobahn88 FMIC kit but make sure you plan it all out first as you will need to modify certain bits to fit. Had to relocate the horn too but that's not a massive problem.

Good work mate, i really need one of these, but am gonna get it mapped anyway, an intercooler only makes for consistant performance anyway, so i can run once well then its heat soak time, lol

Cheers mate.. ha yeah just keep the lead foot for the drag strip hey lol

Map's next for me too

So where are you guys going for the remap?

I'm going with CC TUNING..

www.cctuning.co.uk

Been talking to Chris and he really knows his VAG cars and he's offering a 'one time' custom map (as mine's the older type ECU) for a good price.

My friend who owns a new A4 TDI recommended him which gives me more confidence too.

After a delay of about half a year I can continue with this thread...

I've finally booked in for a live map with Chipped UK on Saturday 13th December.

The map involves a new chip with a custom map which is programmed 'live' with runs on the rolling road. I'm allocated half a day on the rollers to get everything just right and can't ****** wait to see the outcome!!

Good work mate.

They are great guys, they will help you out. Also they dont leave you high and dry, customer support is paramount

Cant wait to see what you get! Those SP51 turbos really do seem good value compared with a new k04-15

Not sure if i would just skip that and go for a GT28RS if i was doing it myself though...

Interestingly, arent the TT225/S3 K04's good for about 280hp? Isnt it possible to get scroll to use the TT225 internals? upgrading from 150 to 280 seems like a worthwhile gain, but all that money on the turbo for an extra 20hp over what the K03 can do doesnt seem all that worth it to me...

Its a good 40 bhp on a k03, for around £350, bargain i say !!

The internals are larger than a TT K04 001, closer to a k04-23. For standard spool times and a nice boost the scroll is well worth it.

The gt is great, but you need a new exhaust, injectors, exhaust manifold, fpr, TIP ,MAF All adds to the price of the swap so the slot in Sp51 makes sense

I'm interested to see what sort of intake temps I'll be getting through the rev range with the FMIC and new map?

I was thinking a K04-15 hybrid would be the way to go. Not cheap, but a fair bit less than a BT upgrade.

Should be good for 290ish bhp.

afaik these scroll turbos are k04-15 hybrids?

i think the problem is that the turbine housing is very restrictive, (the k04-15 basically has a k03 turbine housing afaik) and that limits how much it can actually flow.

Isnt the TT k04-023 good for 260-280HP though?

Dont think i've seen a SP51X make anything in that region as of yet?

We don't seem to have the tuning capabilities in the UK that the US have. They have off the shelf tuning for the k04-15, where as we need custom for that kind of upgrade. The sp51x is an upgraded hybrid k04-15 but tuning is still being played with. Mine is due to be tweaked so i will keep you informed as to what occurs as i now have the fmic installed so could probably run more timing and now boost due to reduced intake temps

Byzan: I see, so its not that the turbo was flat out on your car, more just thats how far the mapping had pushed it.

If these turbos, with suitable intercooling, really can make figures in the region of 260-280hp then its seriously good VFM!

I had a brand new K03 converted to SP51R by Scroll Products and it worked out about the same price as a standard K03 from a UK supplier.

A more capable turbo for the same money.. winner!!

Dave
The B6's are easier to work on due to the aircon pump being in a different palce, access form below is sooooooo much easier

Nice one cheers mate

I bought a 04 1.8Tq S-Line 6 speed from salvage, I paid £4300 to my mate garage slap on two doors and a mirror then MOT her all in the same day.

She mint on the inside and comes with full Audi service history and a new cam belt in 2007 I'm well happy.

Excellent.. looks like you've finally had some good fortune. New car looks really nice mate.

You'll have to let us know how she goes with the outlaw bolted on.. take it you'll be going for a remap when the funds are available too?

Just ordered a new boost gauge.. +2 bar. Hope it turns up before Saturday. I kind of overlooked it!
