Hmmm looks like great value and very tempting! I notice from your sig you have the "staz" map. Whats the difference over their standard map and how would I go about getting it if I go for the Bluefin?

i know as much as that but is it just a re-map without upgrading performance parts?

just trying to get my head round it. my previous experience of cars was to upgrade engine parts and then remap so the engine could fully utilise the new parts without trying to compensate on the old map.

if it's a better map, how comes audi don't just use them as standard?

i'm not saying they don't work just trying to understand
 
Yes mate this is simply a re-map. Basically it comes on a handset that stores the new map and your old one, so you can switch between the two as and when you require. You can read more details here: http://www.mybluefin.co.uk/
 
Yeah you need to read up on remaps TBH. Basically modern turbo engines are detuned from the factory to reduce emissions. Remaps just unlock the full power.

There are many threads on here about the various companies offering remaps. The general consensus is that other remaps offer more power but with bluefin you can take the map off and on with ease and that's best for if you have no other mods and may want to take the car into Audi for work and don't want to have to worry about them refusing to work on it as your remap may have caused the problem in the first place. There's a lot more to it than that though but you should do a forum search (within the 8P forum only) and you'll find out a huge amount!

Bluefin used to cost £600 (it did when I got mine) so this price is very good! Especially as you can change it to a different car within a year for free!

Ahh that's cleared up a bit.

My knowledge on the subject is VERY limited. quite different from swapping engine parts around in a 106 :D

are these only really used for T FSI's and S3's then?
 
Not an option for me I'm afraid as we dont have a GIAC dealer here in N.I. Thanks for the link Staz now will I, wont I?? Decisions decisions....

I did post this up in a similar thread in the A4 section earlier but I saw that JKM are doing them for £390 inc VAT/Delivery and £30 of JKM vouchers which I'd say is a nice bit towards a panel filter.

I'm also a great fan of the REVO product, it is more expensive and really depends on where you see yourself going with regards to mods on the car.
 
Yes you can install or uninstall the map when you like. I'm lead to believe it takes roughly 20 mins on a VAG car.

You'll need to buy another map from Superchips if you want to move to another vehicle.

Yes I have considered Revo very strongly but biggest problem is its about 160 mile round trip for me. Now I know its not the end of the world, but my concern is if I have some map related problem its gonna be a ball ache to go back with the car to them. Think Revo would certainly be the best option if I was going to go full exhaust system, intake and upgraded fuel pump. Sensible head is saying Bluefin the S3, enjoy it for another 6-12 months, and chop it for a 1-2 year old M3. I've grown rather fond of the curent M3, and the credit crunch prices are taking them into my affordability range.

That's not strictly true.

As long as you were to buy another car that Superchip have a Bluefin for then within a year it's free to change the map for another. After that you get a good discount on the next one. I have been told £100 (price not discount) by someone from Superchips (when Bluefin first came out over 2 years ago though) some have said a 1/3rd off. I don't know and to be honest don't really need to find out right now. But if you buy a Bluefin for £391 then I'd hope the trade in price is better too.

I have had mine Bluefinned since I got it and no regrets. It's a great bit of kit. If you don't plan to do any mods then I'd say it's the best bet.
 
You can also use your Bluefin as a diagnostic tool :p

I have gone Bluefin for christmas! Hopefully it will come on Monday. Then for some serious driving when the roads are empty on christmas day.
 
I remember when these first came out, and I was with my friend at the Motor Show in birmingham. He bought one, and applied it to his ST170 Focus.. It broke..... An the salesman who just sold him it knew nothing lol.

He had to get towed all the way home!

I am sure there more reliable now though! lol
