Well it's official; Rob (vrbob) and myself have finally got round to booking a day at JBS to try and get our cars running 100% :rockwoot:

This Saturday we shall be making the 400 mile round trip from Southampton to Derbyshire in the hope that the guys at JBS have the skills to diagnose our faults and come through for us where JKM and Regal have failed.

I'll also be getting a 120k mile service carried out as she's still running on variable servicing from the previous owner. Will be switching back to regular oil from now one as she needs as much lubrication as possible with 116k miles on the clock

We need you all to cross your fingers and toes and send us positive vibes on Saturday!!

omg, im actually out ahem at the ahem ...food show this weekend!! taking the misus down:readit: sorry chaps..... if your there when i get back ill have a nip over, they are afterall open till 5pm haha

I bleedin' hope so ..the last two mornings my car has been absolutely gutless..almost like some theiving pikey had stolen the turbo! Dropping down to 4th gear at 50 to overtake on a dual carriageway and nothing happens!

Gutted at least mine feels better than that!

cant you change it to the week after!!?? :friends:

what time you both due to get to JBS incidently?

We're leaving Southampton at 6:30 so all going well we should be up there by 9:30.

How about you tell your missus to find one of her girly friends to go to the food show with as you wanna go play with the boys and their toys :)

As Andy says we should be there for 9.30am which means i should be able to have a conversation with others by about 10am when i will be officially awake :)

Come on Tim food or playing with cars a no brainer decision me thinks

Mate, its a defo no brainer and ive had the convo, i wasnt supposed to be going but her mate pulled out and now im stuck...shes paid £17 for me to go on condition i drive her down as she hates motorways (typical woman)

would have been good to meet you lot too!!

LOL the title of this thread sounds like a film.......Let us know how it pans out...you could actually make a film of it....as long as its not too similar to ' Zack and Miri make a Porno'

Unless thats your type of thing :sex:

Hope not but if the hawaiin tropic suntan team show up at CC HQ will defo get some pics.

Shame Tim but if you have promised the Lady you will have to go otherwise you may wake up in the morning to find your balls in a glass by your bed.

Big day 2moro so off to bed extra early tonight.

Wish us luck in our quest to get our CC phase 1 remapped S3's upto the magic 265bhp we so want

I've even cancelled a night down the pub to make sure I'm in bed early enough!

I've just been out and washed the car in preparation :) Madness I know just before a 200 mile drive but she hasn't been cleaned for several weeks and thought if she's getting treated to a full service tomorrow she may as well have a wash as well. It's not the easiest thing to do clean a black car in the dark!!

this was after 120 miles on the motorway

I'm staying warm tonight and therefore going in a very dirty S3.

good luck chaps..... i di a lovely 9 hours driving yesterday to London and back... would have took me just under 6 hours except for the fog.... standing still traffic jams on M1 at 22.30!! then nothing at the end, annoying isnt the word!!

Keep us all posted - oh Andy.... you'll get better mpg for half the journey till it gets mucky:icon_thumright:

Hope you get em sorted! Let us know how you get on.:salute:

I'm back and completely shattered! Rob and I got up there just before 10am and the guys at JBS got to work. After about an hour or so James appeared with Rob's keys, said they'd uploaded the latest version of the map and to go try it out.

Rob and I jumped in his car and I was immediately impressed with the feeling of accelleration from Rob's car; it was noticeably more powerful than mine. He wasn't convinced it was any better though so we headed back. James advised Rob that the log files showed that the car was running to spec, but suggested fitting a new set of spark plugs and advancing the timing slightly at the same time, which Rob agreed to.

Then it was my turn. James started off strangely by asking if the car had been anywhere for any work since having the car mapped. I advised it had been to 2 places..one to get the clutch & flywheel replaced, and a couple fo other places to try and diagnose the loss of power. James then dropped the bombshell that the map on my car was NOT a CC map! He said he wasn't quite sure where it had come from but it was a complete mess, with chunks of code missing!!

Apparently CC have a security feature on their maps whereby if anyone tries to read the map off the ECU it kills it..the car won't start or anything. James suspects that somebody has tried to steal the CC code, failed, and then had to remap my car with another map to get it running again! I can't name names or prove anything of course so will have to leave it there.

Anyway James kindly agreed to reflash the ECU with the latest code then Rob and I took it for a spin. To be honest it didn't feel any different. It still struggled to impress me and was certainly not performing as well as Rob's, or as well as it had when the map was insitially installed. James then took me out in the car and actually agreed that it wasn't running right. He suspects there's a blockage in the exhaust somewhere. When booting it at low revs in second aparently the emergency map was kicking in, probably due to excessive backpressure in the exhaust. Leigh then assisted with some further road tests and had to knock the timing back a few degress for now until I get the exhaust sorted. It's certainly holding the power a lot better now but it's struggling to hold 1bar of boost at the top end when it should be making around 1.1

Saying that though, Rob and I had a few blasts against each other on the way back home and he reckons that my car is just as powerful as his. Unfortunately CC's dyno was tied up all day today with an R32 turbo build so we weren't able to get any graphs, but I think we'll get ourselves booked into Regal soon to get an idea of the magic numbers.

All in all it was a fun day..not 100% sucessful I need to spend more money to get my problems solved but CC didn't charge us any labour for the diagnostics which was good of them

good and bad then but was it worth the trip?

Was well worth it if only to finally meet up with Rob! :) The car's running much smoother now it's been serviced and at least I know it's running power within it's means and it's not gonna blow up any time soon!

Andy, glad you got something out of it mate..... i genuinly think they are a good bunch at CC and they seem to really know what they are talking about. (I was looking out for you both as was on way down M1/M42 at 9.30am!!)....

How certain were they that it was the exhaust?

Tim

Boy was i tired yesterday!!

Managed to get home fall i bed n get an hour or so sleep before i had to get up n go out to a friends house.

The write up Andy made is pretty much spot on what i was going to say so i won't go into details of our road trip (i have put my write up on S3-talk.com so you can see it there). Much to say it was great meeting up with Andy (made the trip much more fun would of been very boring on my own) and putting a face to the user.

In my opinion the trip was very much worth it as otherwise we could still both be fishing for if the issues we were ahving were Remap related or car related and i think wew are both now happy that the map is doing what it should. The guys at JBS (Mike , James , Lee etc) were all very friendly and made us feel very welcome taking the time to explain things at each step.

we both got great service an i am still happy in my choice to go with CC as a remap. As andy said on the way home we both had a bit of fun here n there and as far as i could tell both cars seemed very much on par performance wise.

Pity we didn't get to meet up Tim but next time perhaps you will come down our way or at least we could meet halfway.

Hehe we were struggling to see anything in that fog so you have have trouble seeing us :) How was the Good Food Show? :jump::whip:

The guys at JBS were great. James can come across as quite ***** to start with but once you get chatting to him he's sound as a pound.

They said there are no boost leaks so it must be a blockage somewhere, and going by the mileage of the car, the exhaust is the most likely candidate. To be honest by 3pm I was knackered and wanted to get home. Any old garage can diagnose a blocked exhaust so I'll pop it down to my dad's workshop soon and get them to swap out my dogbone mount at the same time.

Did someone mention FOOD???? LOL ;)

Guys, sounds like you got something out of it, not all good, but hey ho....

At least you know what could be causing some of the issue, lets hope in time you get everything sorted.

Let us know how you get on.

Hey Andy once you get the exhaust looked at n hopefully sorted we will have to meet up at that (ahem!) private road for a little more performance testing!!

Sounds good to me. I'm going to try and get a Southern meet sorted once and for all as there's so many of us that live nearby and have never met!

Rob, defo mate!!

Andy..... you joke but there were over 30 stands with free wine/beer/liquor testing.... misus drove and i ended up half w**kered haha:beerchug:

Said on another post we'll have to get sumat sorted next year, plan well ahead so we are prepared.... Midlands/Oxford way i reckon...should get most of the target audience i reckon!!
