Hi All,

Lurked for sometime now and found the forum very helpful so far. Never had anything that a good search on here or google couldn't answer until now! Got a few probs I just wanted some advise on.

CEL came on the other day (Audi A4 2.0 B6) so reset the CEL and drove around for a bit and these were the only 2 that came back:
-------------------------------------------------------------------

VAG-COM Version: Release 409.1-S
Control Module Part Number: 8E0 909 557
Component and/or Version: 2.0L R4/5VS 0003
Software Coding: 0011501
Work Shop Code: WSC 63351
2 Faults Found:
17700 - Map Controlled Engine Cooling Thermostat (F265): Open Circuit
P1292 - 004 - No Signal/Communication
16514 - Shareware Version. To Decode all DTCs
P0130 - 008 - Please Register/Activate - O2 Sensor Circ.,Bank1-Sensor1 Malfunction

----------------------------------------------------------------------

So looks like the Engine Thermostat has gone and so has the front lambda sensor.

I have searched and searched but I can't seem to find anywhere to buy the thermostat for my car. I can find it for various other engines but not specifically the 2.0. Can anyone point me in the right direction here? Has anyone else replaced this part on the same engine and could provide a part number or the place you bought it from?

In terms of the o2 sensor £75 (CAF) seems to be the best price I can get but I think I read somewhere that you should change both the front and rear o2 sensor at the same time? at £70 for the rear I would rather avoid it if I can. If it would be beneficial for the car then I would certainly consider it.

Planning to fit these myself and save a few £ so just want to find the correct parts.

Any help or advise would be gratefully appreciated

cheers
Toby

The thermostat will only be a £10 part - either go for a dealership or for to German French and Swedish. Just give either your registration and they'll advise.

Lambda wise, the first one gets most of the filth, so try just replacing this first.

Cheers,

Hi Beef

Thanks for the advise, will phone round the local stealers for the Thermostat and see what they come up with.

After that it will be out with the spanners, scrapped nuckles and lots of swearing.

cheers

But it's unlikely to be the mechanical thermostat as I can't see how that's monitored by the ECU. More likely a temp sender.

Hi Macduff,

I replaced the temp sender year before last wouldn't have thought it would be that though anything is possible I guess + I think the error code I got with that was different. I'd rather it was the temp sender again as it is easy to change...much easier than the thermostat having looked at a tech article on Audiworld.

I thought that the thermostat (or certainly where the stat is) had an electrical connection which I guessed was for monitoring?

I'm no expert so just guessing really
