I know it's only a small thing in the great scheme but I feel like celebrating!

I completed my Water Pump and Cambelt replacement on Friday night, and the car still works! And drives! And doesn't overheat any more!

After I had stripped the front end off and removed all the necessary stuff to get to the water pump it all looked like a pile of scrap, but now, back together, no nasty cambelt ticking noise, just a lovely, smooth car. Drove to work today and no gremlins!

I'm getting ****** on red wine tonight.

Surprisingly, yes, it was pretty straightforward but a little intimidating once the front of the car is off.... Just make sure you get TDC accurate and mark the old belt to compare the new one before fitting. If there's the same number of teeth on the belt between the TDC marks then you can't go far wrong.

Can't comment on TDI 'stat, but the 1.8t one was easy enough to do from underneath. Getting the hoses off was the hardest part

Like you wouldn't believe, mate. In fact, first turn there was just a loud click and a column of white smoke from the bonnet area. Turned up the neg lead had just come off the battery!

There was an "oh ****" moment when fitting the tensioner, the left hand mounting bolt sheared as I was torquing it. Fortunately it came out easy enough. I'm surprised how little torque the tensioner bolts need.

just noticed you have "Full Tungsten Leather" what does that look like is it just the colour? have any pics?

Yeah, colour. It's on the sports seats (obv) and looks damn spankin'. I'll picturificate it when I get home.
