i was under the impression that many of the jap engines had shorter stroke which in essence reduces piston speed, allowing the components to cope with a higher rev ceiling.

the flip side to this is you have to rev the nuts off it to compensate for the lack of torque.

a longer stroke equates to a higher piston speed at lower revs hence higher torque, hence higher gearing hence quicker acceleration.

case in point would be the tractor unit of any 44 tonne artic.

to 50MPH i would lay odds that it is faster than all but the fastest of road cars.

Probably the best bike racing I've ever seen, at least until Rossi demonstrated to Stoner the age-old art of 'racing'...just proir to Stoner throwing his toys out of the pram.

Epic stuff..from a genuinely brilliant rider and proper character.

Should have gone for a turbo though, better still a diesel cos both are quicker.
