Hi there,

I just thought I would throw this past you....in part, to shock myself.

Since I purchased my 1.8T W reg last july, with 37k, mint interior, exterior a year's warranty etc) for 5k , I have spent 6405.72 pounds on her!!

This is all receipts, including car cleaning products (yes I keep them all). You may be shocked to know that the car has had only two large aesthetic purchases (a upgraded fog light kit, and an armrest from vagparts, total 450). The rest has went on a refurbed tranny for 1500, stupid trips to Audi, and the rest is on servicing - these were not at Audi. The car now has 71k on the clock.

Admitedly some of this (about 2k) was stupidity on my part for taking the car to Audi, but if I have time I will do full breakdown to let you see where the hell it went.

Ps: this does not include car hire, while the car sat in Audi for 10 days, nor does it include a new bumper which was paid under insurance, nor does it include the new injector amplifier that Audi took 10 days to discover paid for under warranty. :puke2:

Mate, I paid £22k for mine used, and now it's worth around £6k apparently... :sob:

If I include all the mods, but minus the wear and tear stuff like servicing etc, then the car has cost me the best part of £27k, but this is over 7 years, which makes it sound (a little) better.

I am glad to see I am not alone...It's just crap that I have not even had any fun stuff like S4 wheels, remap or bigger turbo to show for it....(I could have had them all, with change, for the sort of coin I have spent over the last year).

Best to never add what you spend on a car, when my previous car was stolen I had to add up what I had spent.

In receipts I had over 10k and I had quite a few grand in parts that where bought second hand so no receipts.

£12k, not to bad you think..

Was an M Reg Corsa :uhm:

Was great fun but i'd never do it again !

S3 has cost me a bit but mainly gutted that I could now have a 2003 for what I paid for my 2000 12 months ago.

The amount of money I've spent keeping my R32 on the road is probably the same as Antigua's GDP.

haha, I know what you mean, but jesus man, you really havnt got a lot for your money!

I bought my A3 for a steal at £2800, and I've spent £4000 making he what she is today!

My mini on the other hand, has 14k sunk into it and still mounting fast!

Dude I know how you feel; just to add to this for my 02 S3 :

Windscreen£.00Cleaning£227.59Extra£446.50DIY£565.80Fault£1558.92Parts£729.54MOT£144.50Service£1758.92Tyres£1418.92Total£5327.76Total£1522.93Total Cost£6850.69£6850.69

This is from March 2006 when I started tagging it.

That's nearly 20p per mile + petrol, outrageous.
I think your plight has been dramatically aggravated by:
1. You bought an Auto with a French gearbox
2. You bought a low mileage car which would almost definately have been doing the school/Tesco run the whole of its life which is very hard on the mechanics.

I don't have all the receipts for our B6 TDi but apart from servicing & tyres the only expense has been a new turbo which was around £700. We bought it for £8k with 113k and its now done 195k. So I've no complaints. If you're going to keep it for a while then the initial costs do eventually level out, along with the depreciation. You either change cars regularly and spend nothing on them (taking the hit on the resale & purchase prices) or keep it for 5+ years and reduce the cost that way. Anything in between will always be quite frightening if you add it all up.

this will shock you .... take the back off a plug and plug it in with your fingers on the bottom two metal bits............................

n.b. not responsible for any injury caused by this or resulting damage lol

Your bigger men than me! No way am I adding up all the bills! Only had it over a year an all.

But under most circumstances.... would you have it any other way? I mean, sure they cost a lot, not just in money but time, blood, sweat and tears. But I mean, they are great cars and we would not do it to ourselves if we really hated it.

Spend spend spend, that's what I say, just don't count it up at the end you will only hurt yourself :keule:And besides, as an ex-girlfriend once said to me.... "There are no pockets in shrouds Barry!" :undwech:

Man yous are bad! I could not help do a rough tally.... 3.5K in a year.
Oh man! :wtf: :3sadwalk:

I added mine up a while back came to 6k for the car and 6k in mods hate to think what it's at now!

Jason

Yikes, not adding mine up but its been good to me, occasional service the worst cost was a new clutch and fitting.

spent over 3k last month alone with re-conned gearbox roll bars intercooler tyres and a few other bits we are all mad but we love it

I think we should close this thread up before the miss's accidently opens it up.. im not even going to begin on how much i've spent on the car.. lets just say ive spent 2k this last week alone on it. AAAAAh. and im not even finished yet!.

this thread makes me feel a lot better, iv only owned the car for six months and ive spent about £1500 thats just servicing etc, no fancy bits! Thats not including the £100 a week it costs me in insurance and petrol. And now the pump is leaking on my haldex unit = £240+VAT!! But your only young once and i love the car!!

Mmm. i am 35 with 5 years (me and the wife are paying 450 thu AA)

I can't really say I have spent any sizeable amount on the cars we have owned over the last 11 years but I can say that the total amount removed from the bank to buy the cars was........£112,000 :(

I'm 31 with 10 years NCB, both me and the wife have 6 points on our licence each, I'm paying £470 FC with all mods declared on my S3, yours sounds very expensive for an Auto....

******* hell how much is you insurance??? mines only £289

you ready.... £240 a month!!
I have only got 1 years no claims and im 20.
I have only been paying this for six months as i was insuring my previous car for the first six months of the policy. So next month i will have another years ncb so i think it should be around the £1600 mark, absolute rip off i know but i was fed up with driving a 1.2 fiat punto around. I had saved up the money for an s3 found a nice one and just thought **** it il pay the insurance!

Well i have always paid a lot for my insurance i was paying £1300 for my fiat punto when i was 17, that was in my mums name! would have been in excess of £2000 in my name. Insurance companys just rip off young lads!
I do have a good job and im still living at home and all my mates are skint students so i thought i would spend my money on something decent before i get a house in a few years.
It is scary when you add up the what youve spent on your car but when you compare it to what some chavs spend on making cars look ***** with body kits etc, i know what i would rather spend my money on.
