Hello. New guy here. I'm not an owner of an A3 yet but hopefully will be by april.

Quick question, how easy is it to fit the MK2 S3 bumper onto a 2004 model A3?

is it a stright swap? or do you need to change the bonnet aswell?

Thnaks in advance

Not hard as 'NHN' said we are both doing the change our self.
Oh yeah nigel order my s3 front bumper today :) with all fog lights surrounds. Need few other stuff but need to see how payday is friday will keep you updated and keep me updated on your car

Ashley

Sounds good. i was considering getting a 2003 MK2 A3 any colour. high milage probably. can get some bargains for around £4,000 if you look hard enough.

Then getting S3 front and rear bumpers and bonnet again any colour. fitting them to the A3. then sending the whole thing for a re-spray in the S3 white for about £1,500. maybe later fitting the new S3 headlights.

thoughts?

what else do you need to make a replica S3? (wont be using S3 badges)

boot spoiler? skirts?

Yes spoiler and skirts and also the silver mirrors and correct tail pipes. A bit of window tint wouldn't go amiss neither, just to hide the none S3 interior!

And don't forget the wheels, reps are ebay for less than 500 notes. You will need some sort of lowering kit too. I'm good at spending other peoples money!:)

Good luck in the search lowest a3 i've seen was £6,000 that was private but your right if you look hard enough you will find one for cheaper with high miles (with you dont mind). So leave you with more money to spend on the car.

For the S3 headlights do you mean the new style 58 plate ones? If so you will have to change quite alot of things. NHN will probably be able to tell you what parts would need to be changed. Think there a thread tha twas started today about it
Also read on the same thread on here that the new style s3 1cm longer (not quite sure where).

The s3 grill and bumper i will have will be like pre-facelift audi S3 but without s3 badges be s-line instead. So your looking to have the Ibis White on your a3? Nice....Oh yeah what about alloys? You said about the spoiler and side skirts.

Mine car lava grey a3 with rs6 alloys (gun metal grey next week) this weekend and back and front bumper of a 07 S3. Cant wait to see her all done. But she be going next year so all has to be done by the 28th november but should be done by half way through next month. Be a year i've been driving in january so could sell her then but i'll try and hold out till after my birthday in may. Im looking on getting a 2.0tdi 170bhp or 2.0 TFSI 200bhp be my first diesel car cant wait :) have to keep teh car then for 2-3years to save for s3 :)

What car do you have at the a moment?

I think you'll find thats my job young Ashley, lol, lol

hmmm. looks a bit more than i was expecting on the price for the parts. (looking at your conversion thread)

but then i wont need them new if i am going to re-spray everything so i spose i could just bide my time and pick up parts as they come second hand.

i was hoping to spend not much more than £500 on the front end conversion alone. unless you guys think i setting aside too much cash for the total re-spray

In regards to the respray, i think maybe £1500 will not be enough.
Depends on what sort of job you want doing really.
To do it properly , door shuts, engine bay etc will all need to doing.

If i was quoted 1500 quid by a body shop to do this, i would seriously question the quality of the work they would be doing.

This is just my opinion though.:whistle2:

i thought £1,500 was for a decent job.

problem is, all the white ones are £10,000 minimum which is way too much for me.

rattle cans it is...

Oh and FORGOT NIGEL (how could i forget you!) yes he spends my money for me lol! But got to thank him as its going fine so far and sorted me out with a grill :)

You can pick up second hand parts. I bought S3 Back Bumper and new front grill off NHN (nigel thanks again) but did buy s3 front bumper but the tw*t sent me a audi a3 s-line one. And tried telling me he sent the s3 i think he just a idiot really. So bought a new s3 front bumper from cardiff audi yesterday £245. Now all i need is little parts which i will get next week and get the back and front sprayed and its done :)
S3 used parts are hard to find audi a3 s-line or standard not so hard to find can get bumpers at little as £50

When i was considering getting a audi a3 i saw sprayed the best quote i got was £2,500. But then decided no point waste of time. And picked lava gray instead :)

All the white a3 i see are over £18,500 :keule:and i've only seen 5 for sale on the internet.

Bargain. I could actually buy this now aswell. shame he has zero feedback

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/BLACK-AUDI-A3...=39:1|66:2|65:2|240:1318&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14

infact if he had decent feedback, i would probably go and view this.

thoughts?

Go view the car Hpi check do all that you would do normaly if fine. Then buy it. Good price and been repaired just get some one to check it over for you. Just pay buy bankers daft or cash in hand.

cheapest on here is £10,000 but still out the price range.

really suprised on the price of a spray. it's £1,500 for a top TOP full respray on a 106. i know it's a smaller car but still.

guess i may have to reconsider. I will keep an eye out for S3 parts on ebay or on here. Is there a for sale section of the forum on here?

Thanks for the link i think i found my next car colour :)
Yes if you go on Classifieds thats where cars and items are sold.
If you trust the body shop then let them do it. If they dont do a good job dont pay them till they have done it.
you gonig to look at that a3 from ebay?

ashley

I have emailed him asking more about the damaged to the car before repair. might run an HPI check now. any recommended HPI check sites?

cheers for the classified link

To be honest, i'd save for a bit longer and hold out for a larger engine. I have just a 2.0FSi Sport with 150bhp and I think it is acceptable for the weight of the car. I paid £8K for it 3 months ago with 20K on the clock. The car seems cheap but I'm always cautious about sellers that cant even spell basic words correctly.

True. was a little curious as it says one lady owner yet the user name is Darenjones.

but it being priced that low and with having alloys and leathers already, seems a bargain

I'd definately have it HPi''d etc too (you can read the VRM off the pic), it may be cheap due to the damage that was done making a certain type of insurance catagory. There is very rarely such thing as a bargin when people are selling cars.

benskin07 regrading the s3 bumper, was it i straight swap? did you change the whole bumper? or just the lower valance?and also can you tell me how much it would cost from dealers

I should probably leave it and stop looking at adverts and wait till i have more cash saved. Especially seeing as a large part of the car would be paid for my my credit card which i don't want to do.

think i mgiht just wait till after the new year when i have some cash saved and look for some more bargains. and while i'm waiting, i could always pick up the odd cheap parts for the S3 conversion

The bumper comes as one piece, its was £245 Ashley said he paid. On top of this you will need the fogs & surrounds, grill. If you dont already have the single grill model, you will need the new bonnet too and most likely, the headight washers as there will be holes in the bumper of them.

Unless you really need the car, I'd say no to using credit card! With the way the global financial situation is, hold off and when this credit crunch really begins there will be more bargins to be had.

sorry i meant the rear s3 bumper

Seller does seem weird no feedback bad basic spelling... would check it out with hpi check and view.

Could be selling for a friend or family member if you can view the car that help alot aswell.
I have a 1.6 i get 450miles for a full tank & i drive alot. Not bad for a small engine size.

While your waiting i would start buying things would help alot so when you do have the car you can do the mod straight away. Im telling my self to hold out till after may to get a new a3 but finding it hard!

yes front bumper was £245 will also need:
S3 Fog Lights x2
Fog plugs x2
Fog repair wires x2
Side impact reinforcement/carrier
S3 Bonnet (because you will have two little gaps where your bonnets reach the grill).
And S3 Grill

The bumper comes as one piece, its was £245 Ashley said he paid. On top of this you will need the fogs & surrounds, grill. If you dont already have the single grill model, you will need the new bonnet too and most likely, the headight washers as there will be holes in the bumper of them.

S3 backbumper will be a straight swoop i think my uncle actually fitting it and had a look and said just be a straight swoop.

sorry i meant the rear s3 bumper

Got my second hand so not sure about the price because i got a deal with few parts. I can find price out for the back bumper and lower valance & let you know tomorrow if that helps
And i'll be changing the whole bumper.

S3 backbumper cardiff audi said £158.50 plus v.a.t
With the lip or spoiler thing or lower valance at the bottom (not sure what you call it ha) It is £73.50 plus v.a.t
Hope this helps

Ashley
