Now we are officially in 'recession',,, I was wondering.......... As there's probably a lot of 'younger' members on here who have never experienced such a thing in their adult life before........ How do you think it will affect you..??

I remember the 70's and the 'winter of discontent' and the early 90's property bubble......... But this one is going to be much much worse,,,, because not only do we have the global banking/economic crisis, coupled with already low interest rates, but,,, worst of all this time round, we will also have to deal with the consequences of 11 Years worth of this Governments open door immigration policy......

aint really fussed about it tbh.... i aint got no saving to loose. as long as my boss dont get hurt to much by it to the point im jobless im happy!!! and only petrols 97.9 baby!!

i aint got a morgage, and aint got no loans so im cool. just hope things dont get to expensive as any other person.

goverments a bunch of ****** so there aint no point hoping they will do anything. there just money grabbing twats imo. Clarkson for PM!

Secondhand car prices have plummeted, was looking at a really nice mint Golf GT TDI Sport on Friday, 57 plate, 5 Door, 22k miles with a few extras... 14k.

I think ALOT of people will loose their homes just after Christmas, a lot of my friends are in good jobs but still mortgaged to within an inch of their lives.

I read in the Daily Mail today that workers at JCB voted to all take a small pay cut instead of 300 loosing their jobs (I think they have had a lot of job losses lately anyway, but seems a noble and selfless decision) meanwhile half a million public sector workers are considering going on strike if they dont get a pay rise this year, I think slowly but surely a lot of Labours problems are coming home to roost.

Maybe thats what this country needs, a ****** good kick up the **** and a new government that wont sell us out to the highest bidder.

14k for that golf is actually high, I got a 56 plate at 6 months old for 14k a while back before the big price drop.

If my company keeps paying me then I will be ok , first real dipp ive seen at 34, can`t even remember the last one even though I should but guess thats what living at home did for me back then.

And officially we are not in a recession until the results of the next 1/4

voorhees, i too live in the midlands and do alot for councils etc like hospitals,schools, collages etc and i cant remember the last time i worked locally.
now travelling all over the country every day, nothing about round here at all.
i know four plumbers out of work, at one time you couldnt get a plumber for love nor money.
what did you do for a living?

Definitely no more petrol, no matter what the price, (which would no doubt have been eagerley taken from your newly impoverished hand by the sullen Asian gent behind the till,,, whose job you would now welcome with open arms...)

It hit me before they claimed it was a recession, I have lost my home from it being morgaged to the hilt from the divorce and me being daft enough to think i could manage to continue paying for it.
The ex gets the nice 3 bed semi i get the 140k debt i couldnt pay as i ended up on the sick, then got layed off when the company withdrew their support. Then had the rigmarole of trying to claim some kind of benefit to keep me going etc

It wont be pretty if it does hit any of you, i am not proud of my situation, i just posted as a kind of "it can happen to you" kind of warning. I am not looking for sympathy either

So after wed 11.59am i am out, with 3 dogs a cat, a 16yr old son, a 25 yr old Fiance and an audi that probably owes me much more than i would ever get for her, so i best keep it to continue seeing my other children as i would go mental if i couldnt see them.

I have not been able to sell due to the negative equity situation i inherited from the break up etc
I was promised all kinds of help and assistance but it still ended up like this

messy stuff guys, my contract finishes this week dont even think i will get till friday.work as a chippie , not a thing happening up here even small jobs like hangin doors, kitchens and extensions all dried up. lots of guys trying to get offshore but even at forking out 800 quid on survival and medical you are lucky to get a start.
was getting £1300 pw for a four and a half day week, dont think will ever see that again. been looking at postie jobs and courier drivers, around £7 ph, what can you do. have to keep the wolf from the door.
was going to emigrate canada few years back, i know its the same all over but there still seems to be more work over there just now, if i didnt have the house and alll the toys i would be rucksacked up and long gone.........

Its a sad situation we are in made worse by that cretin brown.I love it when he spouts on the TV every other day we are doing everything to help hard working families or another favourite of browns.We will do whatever it takes to get us through this.
If that f--king cretin had put some of our hard earned taxes to one side during the boom of the previous 10 years( which had nothing to do with him we were just riding the wave of a world economic boom) instead of spending every penny and borrowing more on top he would be able to help the citizens of this country.
As it is, it is all hot air he talks as there is not a bean to help anyone.

Things haven't got any where near the bottom yet.

Some big, familiar names are going to go to the wall. I'm thinking Debenhams, Taylor Wimpey, Barratts, Currys (DSG Group), MFI are all looking pretty bleak right now.

I work in vehicle finance and the motor trade is on its knees. Sytners made 90% of their buyers redundant recently. Inchcape employ 6500 in the UK and are looking to lose around 1000+.

Dealers are stuck with millions of £'s of stock that is losing tens of thousands of pounds WEEKLY, not even monthly. Finance companies are calling in stocking facilities as they want the money that dealers have had for stock to lend out to customers at higher rates, the banks are putting their overdraft rates up aand cars aren't selling. It is not good.

You might be of the opinion that dealers are w8nkers and have made loads of money out of me over the years. Yes, they probably have but it isn't just car dealers that will suffer. There are LOADS of UK businesses that supply parts for motor manufacturers worldwide. One of my customers makes seat belt webbing and they employ 120 people. Orders have dropped off as output of new cars slows and he is looking to make around half his workforce redundant to save his business.

So the spiral gets worse and keeps going.

We are in for a seriously tough time and you would not believe the debt levels that I see when i credit check people. I frequently see people that earn £20k with £40k of credit cards, £20k of loans and a £150k mortgage (that was probably 100% when they took it out two years ago, so around 130% now that property has come down in value).

We only do credit for people with A1 credit ratings so someone like the above would get kicked by me and 6 months ago would have been snapped up by the next company that the dealer put it to. Not now. The lines of credit have been cut and people are maxed out.

Mr Brown has given us a society that is borrowed to the hilt personally with a government that has nothing in reserve to get things level again.

Hopefully you will be Jojo, though if people are trying to save pennies and reduce spending will you not be affected a bit by people cutting back? I often wonder if people really do cut back on such luxuries such as take away food or if they just carry on as per usual.

Well, I am every week that goes by, more glad I made the choice made 5 years ago, after I was made redundant from a software company on the day it was taken over.

I got offered 3 jobs within a month, one with Sendo (the phone co that went bust 6 months later!!), and took the middle paying one, even though it was 8k less per year than Sendo. I have not for one day regretted starting work at Oxford University on the IT side.

If we start laying people off and closing departments, then the whole country must have already gone down the toilet!!

I just hope the rest of you guys can either stay employed or find something to keep you going until the economy rights itself, although I feel that won't be for at least a year yet.

Judging by trade in the last 2 weeks, I have slowly got busier, even in the news, Pizza chains are reporting 18% increase in trade. Staying in is the new going out if you want to save pennies... though my overheads have shot up, I can't see myself passing it onto customers just yet, the increase in trade has offset the increase off stock prices in the last 3 months to a certain extent, so in a word, recession has effected my business, but not enough for me to lose sleep over.
