Hi,

I recently fitted a Mutli Function steering wheel to my 2005 8p A3 sportback, along with the RNS-E Sat Nav. I have had to buy an addtional wiring loom for the steering wheel, this has an extra wire. The 2 wires closest to airbag plugs are ok, but I am left with this 3rd wire (yellow) and I am unsure whether it should be connected to something?

So my question is what is the yellow wire for, is it needed, if it is where should it be connected to?

I have tried to search for anything relating to this on forum and had no luck so any advise would be appeciated. Thanks

Oh the MFSW is not a FBMFSW.....

there's a hole by one of the black plastic locating lugs, thats where you push the yellow wire into, you'll see the spade end to push into.

Thanks for the reply, in the picture of the back of the airbag there are 3 spade terminals visible looking at the picture one large spade is at 1oclock and another small one is at 10oclock the third is at 9oclock below the horn push mechanism with an earth wire connected to the back of the airbag.

Can you tell me if all the terminals earth on the new loom? If so I will bridge the yellow into another earth coming from the case. I really do hope I dont have to buy a new airbag just to connect this wire.....

well from what I can see its the wrong loom for your wheel anyway as that loom is identical to the FBMFSW, how did you match the loom up as you should have quoted the airbag & wheel part then asked for the MFSW loom for those 2 parts

anyway why dont you just compare the pinouts for the old loom in image & new loom & make sure the only difference is the new button wires, so if the yellow isnt present on the old loom in the same pin location then just connect the 2 spades @ 9 & 10 positions.

Cheers for your help on that last subject:beerchug:

Ive been reading soooo much and its started to hurt my eyes with regards to the next thing.
I just want to check with someone to see if my existing steering Ecu and Slipring are compatable for fitting a MFSW

My part numbers are : slip ring - 1k0 959 653 D.
And the Ecu - 1k0 953 549 F. I have seen these with 8P0 at the begining, does this have any meaning?
I have been told that I will need a new Ecu with part number - 1k0 953 549 BK.

Me and the hubby have been trying to sort the coding but have been unsuccesful.

Right, the airbag pic you put up is for an a4 steering wheel. The wireing loom is for the shallower a3 airbag

Does your airbag actually fit the steering wheel you bought.

The issues are not with the Airbag. That part is all done now
They are with the slipring and steering Ecu comapability

the ecu & slip ring are compatible, you need to code it to make it all work ok & the rns, without coding things wont work, not being funny but little laziness on your part, the forum has loads of info on this already, a quick search would have found this info & be done ages ago, it was 1.5 months ago I replied last, cant beleive you've not done yet, but alas.

Also to note it appears all facelift a3's from 05 have fully compatible ecu & slip rings installed as none to date have said they needed these new parts when installing the wheel.

Happens to us all, especially when its 5 pages long, done number of times myself now I've learnt to read the whole damn thing, as long winded as it seems saves embarassment, ok well now it does anyway, lol

Thanks NHN for all your help, its appreciated :)

Can I also just say that using the search feature is not easy or quick as I have tried the whole point of me posting up the thread was to get the answer to my particular concern, how am I supposed to know that some other thread is definatley the correct answer to me if its not asking the same questions. From where I am sat things are always easy and simple to someone that knows the answer...... and its taken over a month because we are busy and cant dedicate all our time to doing up cars and trawling the internet.

Thanks again
Katy :)

No worries, good luck should be fine.
