Hi all.
Any one Know of being able to pressure tested the head. By takin off manifold??
I over heard some one from audi. Saying they can pressure the head by tacking off the manifold.

Also ive been told a normal pressure test wouldnt lose any pressure If head did have cracks in thats from audi? Ture?

From max to there in 200 miles

A pressure test with the head on the engine will simply test the entire cooling system. To test the head in isolation it needs to be removed. Once removed it needs to be tested at high temperature with compressed air. Water's thicker.....

Crap hopped that wouldnt be the case. cheers Twizer.

well ive check the ,radator all coolant pipes, water pump, coolant tank where else?

A head pressure test can't be carried out in situ, and they're normally done with vacuum not positive pressure anyway, its more reliable. Depending on what's being checked of course.

What do you suspect has gone, the head gasket?
If so you can get a sniffer to check the header tank for combustion by products. Also check your oil level and the tailpipe, the coolant has to go somewhere.

dantdi guessing you have a 2.0 TDI? age/millage....?

on the honestjohn website he quotes "Radiator leaks a common problem after 18 months. Can lead to head gasket failure and failure of head itself. If buying used, check expansion tank."

http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/carbycar/index.htm?md=545 Just going out to check mine as i have had it 1 month/1000 miles

whats a sniffer chris? What would i been looking for i tailpipes yellow gue?
Im thinking the head is crack. as it sounds like a problem on 2.0 tdi engines

Readed Honestjohn Samulelt. What am i checking the expansion tank for oil on top of the coolant ,leak on the tank ?
Cant really see how Radiator leak can end up needing a new head. if kept toped up.

Another question for you. Do you have difficulty starting it when cold, either occasionally or regurlarly? Maybe takes two or three attempts to start? If so I suspect your head maybe cracked.

I wasn't loosing coolant on mine but I had trouble starting it quite often from cold. Audi only beleived me when I left it with them for two days, so they had to start it cold. Turns out the crack was causing compression problems in the cylinders.

Since I have had the head changed, it starts first time every time.

A sniffer is a device you put in the coolant tank where the cap would go and it sucks air in from the expansion bottle, the liquid in it changes colour if there are hydrocarbons (combustion by-products) in the coolant, thereby confirming a headgasket problem

Hi Chill14 it starts fine when cold but when hot dose take 3or4 secs to start. How much did it cost you two change the head?
Did have any tesasers after head was changed?

Chris
do most Garages have a sniffer?

Most garages will have a coolant sniffer, give them a bell first and ask them if they can run a sniffer on the coolant expansion tank and see how much it will be.

Mine was covered by the extended warranty I took out when I bought the car. As they replaced the EGR valve as well due to an oil leak, I suspect the work on mine was quite a bit.

Not sure what you mean by your second question. But if you mean have I had any issues since then the answer is no. The car runs an absolute dream now.

Looks like not im going to get tested for 2weeks. Got to work up liverpool.
****** battrey light flickering on and off now too.
:crying:

Right sniffer test on coolant system (Test Negative)
Pressure test system with car raised off ground and engine covers removed,
No external leaks of coolant .
Noted however pressure did drop indicating a loss somewhere possibly internally,

They said i should get it checked out at audi main dealer?
What else can audi do they cant??

Whats the chances it is the head, if any would like to say??
2004 on 53 matches year with problems

pls help me lol!
