Hi!

As winter is approaching fast, I'm in the market for some dedicated winter wheels. I don't want to ride my OEM S3 wheels, as it would be a shame to "curb" them, expose them to salt, snow and sand and so on. I'm not sure whether to go for 7x17 or 7.5x18

What do you people use for winter wheels on your S3s?

Please specifiy wheel make, model, offset, pcd, size and other relevant data where possible :)

Cheers! :yahoo:

Winter is a long time to be running around in a shiny on a set or `second choice`rims.
To avoid spoiling the look of the car over the winter months you would need to buy some decent alternatives and that sort of defeats the object as they will be just as susceptable to damge as OEMs.

For me the obvious thing to do it leave the OEMs and then in the event they pick up any scars over the winter then simply have them refurbed in the spring.
£150 should see a set of S3 wheels returned to their former glory.
Surely the cheapest and smartest solution?

cheers

Keep the standard wheels and get a set of winter tyres to swap to. They're fantastic!

Keep the oem wheels as winter wheels and then get some nice shiny new 19'' summer wheels instead next spring.

Hmm.. I sort of see what you mean. But in case of a "curbing", can that even be refurbished properly? I see company web sites where they claim they can do it, but I'm a born skeptic. To be fair I already have various scratches on the spokes. I recon they come from normal driving as I never drive them on gravel road or the likes.

So everyone here are using the OEMs as their prefered winter wheels? And then some change into RS4s in the sommer? I'm kinda tired of the RS4-look. They are everywhere. Maybe some decent R8 reps.. I also considered the OZ Ultraleggera, but not sure if it would be too far from the original Audi-look.

Winter is the only season we have so you will permanently have winter wheels on. I used mine all last winter. Few coats of sealant and wheel wax on them and they aren't corroded or anything like that.

You would be surprised, Ive had some pretty bad ones done in the past.

As long as they arent buckled or have big chunks knocked out of them then they will come up a treat.

You may need to stick with 18's as 17's may not fit over the S3 large brakes.

Some 17" might just clear. If I'm not wrong, I've heard about the mkv R32 in the states using 17" winter wheels.

You might be right, at least I've had a hard time finding 7x17" .. 7.5"x17 are a little more common, but the range of those wheels for the S3 is still quite limited.

Any one you have a link to a good wheel selector guide, that spans over various wheel makes and models AND have the fitments for the S3 8P.

Cheers! :beerchug:

How about some of these BBS for £249 a set?

8x17 ET50mm

Sorry, just these sizes at the moment.

Re the brakes what size is your spare/space saver wheel?

Shipping to Denmark is not a problem, best to call to discuss.
