Just fitted a camera to the back of my a4.
Drilled lower plastic trim of bumper ran wiring along tow hitch wiring up into car.
Now need to connect to power permantly, tested first works fine but got bulb errors.
Thinking of using the cable for the tow hitch which i dont use instead of tapping into revsing light, its a 7 pin bosal one that swings down.
Anyone know which wire i should use?
Thanks

You got a pic of it fitted? As i may fit my one and use the headunit to display the image cso i can,lol

A little off centre due to hidden tow hitch.
Easiest place i thought without too much damage.
Had one before it has red leds which light up in the dark too.
In bottom pic leds are a bit light but not that bad its the photo.
Ran cable to head unit just need to sort the power now.

I am looking to mount mine more under the valance out of sight except from further behind etc.
Shame you had to mount it to one side for the towbar

its not in the middle!!
Like i said its off centre! there is a detachable tow hitch behind with a swing down socket thats in the centre.
The image on screen looks fine so it doesnt make any difference really.
In one of my other cars had one fitted just under rear passenger lamp as the drivers side had the lock so looked quite even. That looked better, its really the only place i could fit it.

Was looking at one that is rectangular with a bracket to mount like you said.
Would have to make somthing to fix to or would be to far back and would probably be darker?
This one only cost £13 del next day. with 5m video cable and power lead too.

Anyway help with the power supply?

im sorry.... i must admit i just read title and looked at pics.

ill get my coat...

I used the camera mount from a Q7/A6 for the install in my A4 (B7). For power I just ran a wire alongside the video cable to the headunit to pick an ignition live feed.

Wow! that is small.
May have to run up to front, but would rather use the tow hitch wiring if I could.
Thanks for Help

thats probably what id do if i couldnt get it from reverse light, cant you alter resistance to stop bulb fault.
how you veiwing it on your screen, i thought youd only want it coming on automaticly when engaging reverse not on all the time and having to select it manually.

Thats why i want to use the tow hitch thought it had a reversing output and are already wired to avoid bulb faults.
Have fed power cable with tow hitch wiring into the boot where it is all connected but need a little help with choosing a wire? cant seem to find any info on it.

try a multi meter, see if any of the wires are dead and then test them again once reverse is selected

It was easier for me as the B7 passes the reverse signal over CAN. Camera (£140 from Audi) is connected to CANBUS and auto switches perfectly.

Ok you need ignition live for camera and a feed from reverse to the rverse input on headunit to make it switch on auto , ive fitted many of these with no faults with bulb warnings etc

I'm splitting my av input on head unit with incar freeview so i can watch DAVE when in work on my break:whistle2:.
So need it to work only when i put in reverse not switch to av input.
Not 100% sure what you mean by reverse input on headunit?
Sorry 12hr shifts are making me tired and thick.
