As above really.
I've got a 2000 'W' 1.8T Sport, and i'm looking at upgrading the sound system.

I'm thinking of doing away with my Alpine Headunit, and sticking a Standard Audi Headunit in, as i want standard looking / Subtle.

Now basically, Whats the best options for changing the system?

Is a Bose upgrade an option?
Can I upgrade Factory Speakers to Bose, or to better Factory Speakers?
Do i need extra wiring?

I didn't really fancy going aftermarket, Though i'd like a sub, tbh i can't be ***** with it all, i just want some better quality sound.

Some numpty has already cut the loom a little where the stereo would go, and so i've made that work so my Apline now works without an amp.

I've removed all ICE wiring and sold all ICE that was installed.

DO Factory Headunits come Amped in themselves as such?

IS there a Specific headunit to look out for?

IS there somewhere i can actually get hold of one?

Obviously I'm limited only to a DIN model, because of the Dash in my car..

Any help and advice would be much appreciated!

Thanks
David

Talk with Andymac he can help you & supply bits for the best system

You need a Concert 1 with a CD changer both easily available from ebay. Concert 2 is a better option (CD player rather than tape) but as these were only available on later models I think they are CANBUS only which your A3 isn't.
Bose upgrade is pointless, a lot of work for not much improvement. Replacing the whole factory loom front to back, all the speakers & sub, just not worth it.
All Audi factory HU's only have an internal amp for the front speakers, so you need to either install an amp or link back up to the rear/sub amp inside the tupperware sub.
You will need to install a sub if you want anything approaching decent sound quality in the A3 as what you're planning will sound worse than what you've got.
Personally I would buy a Becker HU 7992 (looks very stock), upgrade the front components and install a stealth sub. This will give you the best sound achieveable without going completely mad. Investing money in an Audi HU and changer is really a step backwards.

Cost will be around £600 for all of the above, but result will be excellent.

Does it have some sort of Sub built in then? lol..
I don't have £600, I want reasonable for stock if that makes sense..
I don't want to add lots of wiring, or change any wiring if possible, i simply can't be *****..

So am i better off just leaving my Alpine, and buying the proper adapter and rewiring the rear speakers in etc so everything works as it should?
Atleast I have MP3 already, and the Speakers are amped in the headunit?

Cheers

Oh you should have said, I'd go for the magic upgrade then, it's only £2 and transforms the sound on any system with no re-wiring of any sort.
