ABS issue.....

Hey folks. Had a problem with my ABS, got it scanned courtesy of a local independant VAG specialist who said my ABS module was goosed. Sent the module off to BBA-reman to get sorted (-£40 quid )who have contacted me to say there is nothing wrong with the module . Now I don't doubt the guys who checked the car out but if they got a fault code which said it was the module and then the module turned out to be fine, what is it likely to be?
Would a problem with the pump throw up a module error or would it just be down to the sensors being knackered..

I've no fault codes to list (sorry), don't have my own vagcom so it's going back on the computer this week. Incidently, the dash board error message was red flashy symbol with the 'Warning. Fault in ABS system message'. Any ideas appreciated.

Ive had a fault on the abs for a while and cleared some wheel sensor codes but now i have had the following code . I pressume the pump is gone again but im sure i got a different code last time

I may have been neglecting my brake fluid chages... this could be part of the problem... I'll get back to ya'll with some fault codes Wednesday night for a wee bit of advice...

Symptoms are non-abs braking and the red warning symbol from about 1/2 a rotation (of wheels) in either direction.

could be a wheel sensor, although when we were driving around in ours without a trigger wheel fitted to the rear disk it didnt notice the fault until we reached about 10-15mph, if you braked before then the ABS kicked in and the pedal pulsed as i presume it thaught that rear wheel had locked up.

You really should spend the couple quid and get yourself a vagcom lead, they are invaluable on these cars and saves a lot of hassle if you can quickly nip outside and check things like this!

Yes, you are right of course. So what's best then, lead and software to hook up to the pooter or just one of those 16 pin hand held fault code readers thingies you can get off ebay?

My ebay lead was about a tenner, vagcom is free and the free version will do basic things like reading fault codes.

Its possible to make it do more too.

If you dont have a laptop it might prove problematic, although again you can probably buy a cheap old laptop off ebay for 30-50 quid (infact i'll be listing an old Dell P3 Laptop pretty soon if your interested)

Doing that will give you a much better solution than one of the handheld readers too!

Cool. Got a laptop. Anything to watch out for on the USB leads.. I have been looking and they're listed from about 10uid up to £40.... And I get the software from Rosstech I believe?

Serial VAG-COM leads are better.

USB ones may be more modern, but they're prone to moving, and can give inaccurate readings.

...Incidently. Got the dampers on. Not had a real good drive yet but the car already seems more stable. Will update you when I get out for drive..... Full geometery check courtesy of Carlise Audi on Friday and that will be the end of a rather expensive , but necessary shopping list. (apart from this ABD issue of course!)

Ooh, I like the idea of Free. But free from where? I have tried the search thread but got so many results I don't have time to trawl through them.

I just wish my laptop had a serial port not loads of USBs.....

I'd love a bit of VagCom, From whence might one procure a FREE! copy?
