Well, I've handed in my notice at work so I can set up in Business with an old Uni friend, which means my pride and joy has to go

What do people think about my ad? Anything you'd change? Is the price a bit on the optimistic side do you think?

You've had it professionally detailed haven't you? Worth a mention highlighting that it was well looked after.
Maybe advise state of the tyres, ie, new, nearly new etc
Maybe remove the fact it's remapped - used car buyers may prefer to think it was standard car, ie not driven hard.

I think the price is about right (though others will disagree!), you just might have to accept it will take some time to shift. It is a great colour and good spec though, so should move ok.

Yeah, it is a real shame! Yeah, it's only remapped, no physical mods, I can put it back to stock with the flash loader (although there will still be the hammer map in there somewhere). Audi will probably flash it back to 100% stock in a service at some point.

The car went for the going rate so the remap didnt seem to affect the the value up or down.

Its worth suggesting that YOU had it remapped, say something like `reliable 320bhp` `professionaly/specialist tuned` and also mention how many miles you ve done since the remap.
I put this in my ad and like I say it sold privately Ok.

Like the guys have said, it will put some buyers off, but at the same time may set yours apart from the the rest and will appeal to the those who are bhp hungry (like me).
Failing that, cancel the add, switch off the map, and re-ad with new pics and narrative.

Damn shame you have to sell, but good luck with the sale and the new venture.

Thanks, I'm the same as you, I'd go for a mapped car over stock, I'm a sucker for bhp figures! I think I'll keep the remap off the ad for now though, but will be interested to see what others say on the matter.

Also sold my MK4 Golf (in 10hrs !!) declaring the MTM modified ecu. The std ECU was also include so the option the revert to std was available.
That said a prospective S3 buyer will be spending a lot more money.

BTW the price seems about right too.
I paid 25K in March for mine from Fontain AUDI in Slough.

4K miles, 1 prev owner.
Sprint.
57 Plate, Oct 07.
Pretty much everything inc. sunroof, but no Buckets or Nav.

Bit of a dilemna whether to advertise std or modded but its always hard to predict a fickle buyers market.
Its a bit up on the miles IMO but either way it sounds like a lot of car for 21K so hopefully it wont hang around for too long.

Besides, when youve made your first million you wont give a toss.

Nice car for sale there mate. Personally I would leave it advertised that the car is mapped. Failure to do so is not exactly fair to anyone with terms of insurance through any mishap (discussed many a time on here if an insurance company inspected a car for bhp after a smash etc).

I think if you show the fact it has indeed been detailed, service history / bills etc, that shows you care more about the wellfare of the car as opposed to just thrashing the life out of it. People looking for S3's are looking for a sporty hatch.

Most people on here would possibly buy a car declared remapped (as we are all in to them and enthusiasts) but even I wouldnt as it would seem to me as if its been thrashed.

Personally I would leave the fact out and the car will appeal to everyone looking and when you get interest in it gauge the persons interest in cars and possibly disclose it then.

Your advert will hopefully attract more interest then.

Cant really understand when people say they wouldnt buy a mapped car, due to it probably having been trashed.

I mean a car can get trashed without a map too.
And a car like an S3 should get trashed from time to time I d say.
If a car never gets close to the limiter it falls in a deep sleep, and will not make the claimed 265bhp. Just my opinion though.

Agree with you doublemint - it's all about perception though when you're selling.
If you advertise it mapped you may cut out 50-60% of the people looking.
If you get them looking at the car you can guage whether or not the map is of interest to them... whether you tell them then is up to you.

The reality is, whether a car is mapped or not, it could have been 'thrashed', so is irrelevent really!

The PH Classifieds can be bit cack.

I had a nightmare trying to get the ad removed and it it took numerous attempts.
I was getting enquiries weeks after it had sold!

It seems to have good coverage though. I sold my last car and bought my S3 through PH Classifieds and it didnt cost a penny.

I'm selling mine to free up capital for a business venture then i'm going lease on my next motor. Just can't afford to have money tied up in a depreciating object like a car anymore!! I'm sure you're doing the right thing and i hope it works out for you mate.

As far as the map goes, it's a dodgy one. Some people may have a very narrow minded view that all mapped cars have been thrashed so it will put buyers off.
But at the same time if you make it clear that it's been well cared for (detailed etc) and stress the fact the map was installed to improve the engine generally....not just to make it faster, you should be fine, but expect plenty of tyre kickers.
Also, you don't want anyone getting into hot water with the insurance and coming back to your doorstep accusing you of being a liar, sending you dogshit in the post etc!! Worth thinking about!

Yeah, I can't lie, I feel too guilty! Basically if I sell it to someone who doesn't ask if it's been mapped I'll just take the map off, if they ask, I tell them. I've had a couple of very interested people contact me who are aware it's mapped, although one is a little worried about the effect of the warranty.

Annoyingly one of my front discs is warped so it's into Audi on Monday to get two new front discs and new pads all round (£354 - not too bad I thought).

I sold my Golf with REVO, it was a low miler and fully VW maintained. It was a pampered car and I explained it had done few miles since the remap which was done be me.
I think this offered some reassurance that it didnt have a have a hard `previous life` as it was the family daily driver complete with child seat
etc.
Perversely I reckon this sold the car as the guy who bought it had an EVO previously and would have been un-impressed had it been std. Ok it was no EVO but the new owner was pretty impressd was the grunt and bought the car.

I agree that you can limit your market if you declare a car as remapped, however it can in fact make the car more attractive to certain buyers.
