New (yes more) plans for the car..

hehe good move Lee!!!

Will some bigger brakes fit behind the new wheels?

The forum is full of people modding cars, I dont mind a mod if its done to increase 'performance' in some way, be it more power, better handling, lighter weight.

But just making a car so low it probably rides terribly and handles far worse than it did out of the factory is ridiculous. I could put up with a bad ride if the handling and grip was awesome, but in most of the case on here I dont think people give a second thought to whether it makes it go round corners better, just does it look slammed. Lower does not automatically equal great handling/grip.

And whats with fitting tyres that are clearly not wide enough for the wheels (see picture on first page), what the hell is that all about?

this forum is getting a bit boring with all the modding threads, but I'll still check in every now and again to see if someone has posted something useful about a remap, or an HPP upgrade or something else designed to make a car go faster.

Looking through this thread i can see a fair few of you cant differentiate between " Modding " and "Styling" and the fine line that is between the two.

I know for a fact i'd hate to think my car was the same as the next one be it in looks or performance.

yeah because this forum hardly has any remap threads

I sense another good argument here like the legendary "CAR STOLEN AT 5AM THIS MORNING THREAD" so I'll try to stoke it up some.

All exterior mods on the S3/A3 look *****.
Hidden performance mods are a different matter.
Alpina's exterior mods to the 3 series also look *****.

Woah, serious deja vu.

I thought we were talking about these wheels:

Some people might want to look here instead.

I think they'd look proper daft.

I modded my house with a conservatory, my garden with a hot tub and my car as my sig says, and all because I wanted too, not for anyone but me!!

Dont lie... you modded the house with a htub to get women naked!! We know! ;)

Anyway, Im liking the euro rimmage...

Google it... I'd say no. Though millions of people may end up inn this thread now!:lmfao:

hahahah funnily enough, or rather as expected... vwvortex came in 2nd on google for rimmage

And now you know :lmfao:
Welcome to the currently rather crazy A3/S3 'lounge'.
You're a bit brave jumping in here... :p

Well, when i asked what's a "bowfer?" and asked you not to say " Something your fire arrows with" you didnt elaberate. I just thought i'd nip by and have a poke around.

Oh, Johnny, those wheels.
No mate, the ones your sliding around on look a hundred times better.
Those look like something that i have in a blender.

First of all I dont give a s**t if you mind what I do to my car..

And when your talking about performance mods, things that make it go faster etc.. I suppose you have missed the thread where I explained how I had just gone big turbo on the car, and its making 417bhp & 385ft/lbs?? Yeah thought so..

Also I do kind of know what im talking about when it comes to cars, so dont assume Im an idiot because im 'thinking' of changing the wheels on my car!?

Anyways this thread has gone a bit out of control, getting pretty bored of people coming on here purely to moan on about other peoples decisions.. If you dont like it then thats cool, but dont cause a scene!

And Bowfer, your an Idiot.. AGAIN!

No, I didnt miss that thread, I think I actually asked if you were planning on doing anything to the brakes . It was very interesting and I'm keen to hear how the engine works out longer term.

This is all why I find it odd that you (and lots of other people) want to lower the car to such an extent that it cant possibly handle well any more.

This wasnt a specific dig at you jonnyc, I just see lots of things done to lots of cars (not just A3's) that cant do anything other than make them worse dynamically (by worse I mean worse handling, slower etc, eg the fashion for having tyres that arent wide enough for the wheels). I'm not going to say worse looking because that is subjective and up to the individual, although a lot of what I see I personally dont like the look of.

I dont think I actually passed comment on the wheels you're thinking of fitting, but for the record I prefer your current wheels.

Ill be running Feroddo DS2500 Pads all round, H&R Monotube dampers, KW Adjustable top mounts (front dampers), H&R adjustable front and rear anti roll bars and having the cat set up to my spec.. Trust me, it'll handle, stop and go just fine..

To be honest them wheels depend a huge amount on if I sell the Speedlines, soon ish, if not ill probably leave it for a few weeks.. But by then ill have changed my mind on what im doing with the car anyways! ha..

I just like playing with the car, cheaper than changing it at the end of the day!

I'm reallly surprised none of the other Ibis owners haven't bitten on the wheels actually. They look really good on white.

Jonny - the pads on the brakes - do they make a big difference? Might follow suit and get them done at Regal on the 4th in prep for the track on the 11th....
I tracked my car at Mallory, but it was pretty damp therefore sensible braking adn everything was fine, but I'm sure on a dry track with sustained abuse the standard set up going to faaaaaaade big time.
Be interested to know how big an improvement they make.

As for wheels, how about:

Jonny - stop being a spoilt brat. If you post your car plans for public commentary you need to be prepared for positive and negative responses.
If you just want everyone to say "Oooh Jonny that's great" like a bunch of mindless JonnyC groupies its neither realistic nor fair to the ASN forum population who have minds of their own.
Some people will think your ideas are good - others will think they are cack.
Is that a problem ? If so why bother posting in the first place ?

Just seemed a bit provocative Iggu.
If you read back through this thread, there's a lot of cr@p, considering Jonny has not visited this post for a while. If i'd have got to the end of this I'd of probably had a bit of a rant as well!

I think we can all handle "not my cup of tea" but sometimes posts go a bit beyond that.

Yeah - why bother voicing an opinion. I see your point.

What - and that includes my opinion Iggu?

Hey, I'm not picking an argument mate, but this place has got pretty heated recently, and all I'm saying is a comment like "stop behaving like a spoilt brat" is provocative!

This place used to have a bit of a community feel, with lot's of you counting on people who do these mod's first for their expereinces. But these last few days have seen people popping shots left right and centre.

So that is why I used this :banghead: after your post.

Sorry

I agree - which is why I saw my **** over Jonny's comments like these:

"First of all I dont give a s**t if you mind what I do to my car..
And Bowfer, your an Idiot.. AGAIN!"

Unnecessarily aggressive I thought.

No need to apologise to me mate - ever. I couldn't take offence even if I tried. Anyhow maybe my reaction was a little over the top so let's all kiss and make up .... until the next row.

Hmm.... I'm going to be relatively diplomatic for once and not get involved in petty arguments but you can't tar all modifying and styling with the same brush.
I don't think some people understand 'modding culture' and they seem to think you're trying to turn the car into something it's not. Not the case. As far as stereo's go... Standard system set ups are usually rubbish and factory options are massively over-priced so if anyone can't understand why people upgrade their ICE themselves it worries me. I don't really even need a boot so i'd have no problems filling it with audio gear if it made my journeys and general listening experience more pleasurable.

Cars are set up from the factory to be as predictable and safe as possible for the widest range of drivers. This does not suit everyone. So why not tweek the car to your own taste and driving style?
Would you walk up to someone on a night out and give him verbal abuse because you don't like his sense of style? I would hope not, so why do it on here?? At the same time i'm all for airing solid, educated opinions.....As long as they're based on some reasoning.
You only need to look at companies like Brabus, they take the original which is already great and make it brilliant. But they're not seen as a bunch of chavs for lowering a C-Class and making it do 0-60 in sub 4 seconds.... But if you did it yourself you're a '****', 'chav' and ruining the car? Very strange.

I think some people need to take a deep breath before commenting and see the wider picture. Personally i've got better things to do than get myself angry over brake pads and air filters. I'm sure most of you have too.

Anyway, i don't have any interest in serious modifying (fuel pumps, turbo conversions, heavy remapping etc) so i just avoid threads which involve the subject..... You see how that works? Simple principle.

Mate, you couldnt be further away from the truth there.. The fact that im young does not automatically make me a spoilt brat..

Im really not saying that I want people to like what im doing, I was under the impression that posting up plans for a car on a forum was interesting to other like minded owners, if the content of the post is not your thing then like I have said before its cool with me, but when people calling 'chav' etc then its just gets a bit boring really..
