Hoping someone can help me. Got home last night and went round to my passenger door to get some stuff out, shut it and it bounced back at me. Check there wasn't anything stopping it, and tried again, but no luck. It seems the catch has failed. It even opens when the lock is down! So I can't drive it without putting some duck tape on the outside (which I'm not going to do with fear of damaging the paintwork). Tried tying the indoor handle to the seat, but as you know the handles are closer to the hinge than the end of the door, and it just isn't secure enough to drive with. Doesn't help that those doors weigh a ton.
Right, I'll try to stop moaning! As you can tell, I'm peeved, especially as I'm going to be selling it in a month or so. Does anyone have any tips as I can't help but feel it's got something to do with the door latch / silver thing at end of door. Would it help if I unscrewed it and had a look inside? I tried comparing it with the other door which works fine, but can't see any moving parts when you move the outside door handle.
I am sure I'll end up getting a mechanic to look at it, but really not happy as can't drive it to any garages without someone coming with me, and then there's the issue of getting home as they've had to be my passenger to hold the door shut!
Any tips really welcome - I knew the car would have a last hurrah just as I'm trying to sell!
If it is a whole new door catch / lock needed, how much would that be and what am I looking at for labour time?
