Hi Folks!

I fancied a change from the modified JAP scene and purchased my very first German car!!

2001 Audi S3 Quattro.

I must say.....im VERY impressed with the interior and overall build quality - its a big change with what im used to!! Its like driving a brand new car even though its covered 80000 miles!

I purchased the car for £7000 which I thought was cheap but i knew needed a service for cam belt change etc....

Bavaria AutoWerke in Aberdeen did excellent work on my car but it was an expensive service coming in at £1000 :sadlike: (cambelt, tensioners, waterpump, dampner, front anti-roll bar, bushes, longlife oil change and rear brakes also needed changing) Now my mind is at rest that the car is tip top :eyebrows:

Plans for this car as I have 6 weeks off work!! .....

Went to Checkpoint in Aberdeen to get a free 5 hour trial of a Stage 1 Revo generic map. You defo feel a difference but Ive decided to go for a custom remap instead at Japerformance in Ellon. I dont fancy paying £500 again for another generic map if I decide to upgrade my turbocharger in the future :noway:

I may decide to lower the ride height, can anyone recommend lowered springs?

Tints - thinking about tinting but are they considered "Chav" on an Audi??

Booked in Monday for a full paint detail/Correction :hi:

Anyway, here's a few pics of the Autobahn muncher

1st things first... :sign_welcome:

Now... WOAH... blue seats!!! ;)

Car looks good mate.. plenty of advise around here on your questions... have a look thru it .. theres loads... take you pic to the bits you like! ;)

Welcome to the site mate, at work at the mo, so cant comment on the pics (as i cant see them)

Plans sounds ok, the tints arent too bad, as long as they are done properly and not TOO dark.

Get the remap done, its cheaper and you can reap the benefits of it straightaway.

Make sure you get some before and after pics of the detail, will be good to see the difference.

As for lowering, your best bet is to have a look on the A/S3 Forum, plenty of info there mate.

Herbie, who are yo getting the remap done by???

Herbie welcome,

I hope you enjoy the site. :icon_thumright: :blow: (This icon is new member joking :))

Nice car, as said previous check out the a/s3 forum for suspension set-ups.

i'll keep an eye out for you too, in Ellon tomorrow in fact

Cheers guys:arco: The car on on a Y reg not the private as in pics ;)

Yeah I did a bit of searching about suspension setups and I think im just going to keep it as it is. The added cost of getting these adjustable tie bars has put me off.

Well my custom remap has not gone to plan today :ermm:

Last week I went to Checkpoint in Aberdeen for a "free" Revo trial.
The trial is supposed to revert back to the standard map after a 5 hour period but that is not the case.
The Revo has scrambled settings on my ECU so my tuner cannot put his custom code on to it.
Checkpoint were going to charge me to put my own audi map back on the ECU
So its either pay to get my standard map back or pay for the full Revo software :sign_unfair:

Mate, thats a scam, get in contact with Revo about that, they cant do that, the car SHOULD theoratically revert back to original setting.

Also, loving the seats, I have the same ones, I thought they were a bit loud when i saw them first, but they have really grown on me.

In the end the Revo dealer talked me round to the full software. If im dissatified within 30 days get a full refund and my original map back.

I'll be taking the Revo OFF the car ASAP as I got the fueling boost etc checked on a dyno

The car is running dangerously LEAN!!! 13 AFR on full throttle!!! Not safe at all!!!!

I was always wary of generic maps and this just prooves my point.

Where did you get the fuelling checked?

Was it Japerformance?
If so, get it checked elsewhere...every car i've run on Simons roller have shown lean...when plainly they aren't.
Double check against Wallace's rollers.

I have dybo graphs from Star, AmD and Wallace that have AFR graphs that tie up...but Japerformances are drawing a whole different shape.
Coincidence?
Hmm...

I've never seen a lean S3 yet...judging by the black exhausts...
honestly, don't take Japerformance's rollers as gospel - if it was there.

I'll get simon to double check by going out for a spin with the portable wideband.

I have not been to Wallace Performance since they MELTED my Impreza engine whilst mapping.

If you are unsure...get yourself to a proper VAG specialist...i'd recommend Star Performance. They did all the tricky bits to me S3 and in over 10 years of using them, they've remained consistantly good.

I've used Simon for mapping my Megasquirt, and for dyno days, so I have no issue with either him or his company...but for VAG mapping, I'd head to a VAG only tuner every time to get exactly what I wanted.
Your REVO issue would have been pointed out to you by a VAG tuner (Hell, I could have told you about the problems you'd get) whereas a reputable VAG tuner would have got round it as they'll have had to resolve the problem previously.

I find it hard to believe generic REVO code runs lean on your engine (assuming the engine and all it's sensors are OK) when it runs on thousands of other S3s with no issues at all.
Generic code is always set safe - it's fools who don't know what they are doing that normally ruin it be messing about.

Yeh I would go to Star too.

Friend of my took her A3 to Japerformance against our advice as it wasnt running right at all.

They told her the Revo 1 was at fault and she should remove it.

My brother had a look and within 2 seconds found the Forge split valve was plumbed in completely incorrectly....ran sweet for about a day till she crashed it...

Let us know how you get on with it mate...
