I do alot of wakeboarding (been at it for 12 years) - havnt tried the kitesurfing but it's definitely something i want to get into.
Any advice for beginners?? Can i just use one of my wakeboards or will i have to buy a proper kite surf board?

Hi mate, i havn't done kite surfing before either! Im on dry land for now, I was just wondering if anybody here was into Powerkites.
Wouldnt mind finding out some good spots to try surfing though!
I cant see why you wouldnt be able to use a wakeboard to kitesurf though, both made from tough lightweight material..
How much horsepower does it have?

Where do you do your wakeboarding Con? I do it every now and again at ski supreme/drumaheglass (spl) near coleraine
Strangford Lough, Lough Erne, Sligo. One of my mates has a big lake outside his house too so we use that alot. I havnt been out too much this summer to be honest - im getting a bit lazy i suppose lol.

Well ppl riding power kites with caution wear "kite killers" which strap to your wrist and are also attached to the kite. Essentially you just drop the handles and the kite will fall out of the sky. Depends how crazy you are
But yeah, in a hurricane, that could be bad news lol, not the best time to have a crack with a power kite tbh

Quie a lot of people have started doing this in Richmond Park now, keen to have a go, but seems pricey to hire the stuff andf have a lessons! Would like to try though I love snowboarding, have done a bit of wake boarding so kite boarding, or whatever it is could be a good laugh!
Let me know how you get on Leon - be interested to hear how easy/hard it is to pick up!

If i was venturing out onto the beach in a hurricane (unlikely in the east midlands area) with my power kite, before locking my hands in i'd find out which way the hurricane was coming from for starters. In a way this kid is 'lucky' he got thrown inland and into a building at 70 mph. Could have ended up several miles out at sea being battered by giant waves..... Not my idea of a fun day. Idiot.

Yeah, Ive often toyed with the idea of getting a huge kit so I could 'fly'!

You dont have to use a harness.
But again, you should be able to "kill" the kite off by applying the brakes (tilting down/pulling back). Again, Rodney was a plonker for kiting in those conditions.
Ive got an anemonmeter to make sure the wind is just right. It gives me max gust speed + AVG MPH - Bft
Hey L6ON, I have a couple of mates into this...they go all round the coast (east anglia) and one of them lives at a place called walcott, always seems to be a quite a few about round our way,West Runton,Sea Palling are popular places for them also.Looks a great laff!!!

Yeah im must take a look in there and see the craic.
One of the guys i used to go to school with has started his own companyselling all that sort of stuff so if i am going to buy a whole **** load of it i'd rather put the business his way.
............ah one other thing i may have to do before i hit the water...........learn how to fly a kite lol!!
Start with a cheap 3m just to get used to it, 4m max! They will easily lift you up in medium winds.
Then once the confidence builds, move onto a bigger kite.
The smaller one wont be redundant once you do, because on some days it wont be feasable/sensible to fly the biggy..

*Word of warning* Towards autumn is when the wind gets blustery. One minute you'll be looking up wondering where the wind has gone, then next minute, "woosh" your getting dragged across a field hanging on for dear life lol, so be careful

It landed today so just need some dry CALM weather now
