Lamin-X as well as facelift taillights fitted to S3

Just shows again the chromey grill suits the blue S3 alot better than the optik

Fully agree with you Nigel.
I think if the little silver part of the splitter was painted Black and the black optic went on it would look OK, but not something I'm going to pursue.
I can't remember who did it, but someon on here has sprint blue and a 'be-spoke' optics grill. Black 'slats' with chrome surround and strips.... subltley different and I think Jonny C has set his up the other way round.

OK- when I ordered mine I enquired about discount as a lot of people on here have ordered.
Mine are on the way, however if anyone else is interested and wants to try and set up a group buy they should contact this chap:
chris@lamin-x.com

Good luck

Its been sat around for 6 weeks in its tube but today I managed to get the lamin-x fitted, I have ended up with a few bubbles, it does say in the instructions to pop them with a needle but i'm gona leave them for a few days and see how what happens.

Question What size where the bubbles that anyone else had on there lamin-x and how long did it take for them to disappear, ive got a couple that are about 8mm wide. May be I didn't take enough care when fitting.

Think they suit the optics and black mirrors, just need to fit the cupra spoiler, have you fitted yours yet Marc?

yeah I had some large bubbles but they've all gone now. There were two (one each side) that I had to pierce with the tip of a stanley knife after about two weeks.

not fitted the cupra spoiler yet. The weather's not been too accomodating. Hopefully I'll get around to it this weekend.

Just nipped out in car to put me grans hens to bed and the bubbles are getting smaller, so hopefully in a week or so they will have all gone. After you had pierced the bubble did it clear and stick back to the glass.

I think the precut film could have done with been a bit wider as it does not go all the way to the edges of the headlight on the wing and inner edge. ive also got a small gap on the o/s headlight between the bonnet and top edge of tint, it would of been better if i had postioned the tint a few mm higher. All in all I am happy with the overall look.

when I pierced it I used a damp cloth to press the moisture out through the hole and after a day or two the bubble was completely gone. You should wait a week or so before attacking it with a knitting needle though - give it a chance to dry out naturally. Driving with your lights on will certainly speed things up. Parking the car facing into the sunlight will help too.

I agree that it could have been a couple of millimetres wider and taller. Luckily I managed to get mine fitted in such a way that the only way you'd see the line at the top is if you were just about to get thrown across the bonnet.

did you have any difficult refitting the fog light grilles after removing them? Mine don't seem to want to go back in all the way on the inside edges (the sides nearest the number plate). From the look of the photos you might have had the same problem.

Had mine fitted now for several weeks and the majority have gone - there are a couple of marks on the drivers side (the first one I did) so going to attack it with a needle later this weekend and see if this solves the problem

Going to order more lamin-x so I can do my fogs myself and maybe the indicators!

Looks very good tbh.

I'm just afraid it affects the luminosity of the lights (which obvisously it will).

Would not want to get involved in an accident with these things on.

I think everyone has said they have seen no reduction in illumination.... I hear what you're saying though

Yeah I believe when I asked this of Marc he confirmed no difference in light output & another member with xenons also said same, but raises a serious question, if there was an accident & the investigator checked the lights, its definitely a reason to not payout for sure as they arent exactly legal coverings are they & the insurance company would argue this 100% I no doubt believe they would win.

They'd have to demonstrate that they do indeed block light and to such a level to have caused the accident. Not quite so clear cut.

They dont have to demonstrate anything fella, if its a mod not mentioned or can impair the visible road no matter if its .5% then they have a clear fact that they can easily get away with against your claim, tell me why police pull us for tints on our windows but it doesnt effect our vision of cars coming along, unless its limo black of course but you get my drift

We all know it doesnt work that way with insurance companies, we can speculate all we want, if the headlights have a film that isnt from stock on the lenses they will use this as an excuse, hey I'm all for the mod seeing the look it gives but facts are facts, they will class it as an unmentioned mod or not part of the insured car & void the insurance, simple & clean cut, you know thats what they would do if they checked it no matter what we think on here, they do it everyday, even a map would void the insurance, they only need the slightest discrepancy from the insured spec & they are abiding by law of undisclosed changes to the insured vehicle

But what is it on window tint - 30% 35% max, I don't know, the impact of lamin-x is no where near the imact of that.
I hear what your saying, and an insurer may try and take that stance, but you could ask them to demonstrate how it contributed to any accident... I think they would atruggle!
Maybe - I don't know

hey I'm with you on this & yes tints on windows 30% whatever are alot more, but if its not a stock item thats voids your insurance full stop unless its mentioned on your policy, thats been common practise & written/unwritten law since I've been driving cause they always say "any modifications?"

doesnt mean I wont be doing it though, I'll just drag myself out of the car bleeding badly & remember to rip the headlight tints of before someone gets there, lol.

he says with the chandelier hanging in the back, lol

boydie everytime I see you post I think stunning car, remind me again what height you running & are they CK's?

the contrast of red background & blue car are great huh, looks like on top of building in car park with city lights in rear ye?

the ones we have fitted are only blocking 7% of the light. I regularly see people driving on their sidelights because they think that's all they need.

Whenever Jon's PIAA boat comes in I'll be upgrading to the Chrome Whites so they'll be giving out more light anyway.

In fairness, if somebody can't see my car when it has every light lit there's not really much I can do about it.

effectively you've just voided your insurance then, lol, only if they know of course, Shhhhhhhhhh

Hopefully won't be long now Marc!

Must admit I'm tempted to do this mod - it does look good. Need to sell a few bits on fleabay to finance it first though.

Yeah mine dont seem to go back in either, Ive had them in and out that many times fitting bumper and xenons etc. Problem I had was if you push them in too much you end up pushing the back cover off them. The clips dont seem to locate and hold them in tight.

I think everyone has said they have seen no reduction in illumination.... I hear what you're saying though

Ive had no reduction in illumination, in fact I can see better since ive fitted my OEM xenons:hubbahubba:

Have a look at the group buy thread ive just spoke with Navid

Thanks for the comment nigel - they are BBS CH and I have FK Highsport coilovers lowered roughly 40mm all round

The photo in my sig is slightly photoshoped but only the lighting has been changed and it was ontop of the IKEA multistorey in Belfast

for those guys who ordered the lamin-x headlight pack, how long did it take to ship out? I have my car booked in for tinting tomoro and the guy who is doing it kindly offered to do the lamin-x over the lights. hope its here in time,

mental note to self......Stop wanting everything done yesterday!!!!

p.s with regards to the insurance debate, I called Admiral (my insurers) only charged me £18 extra for telling them the windows were tinted. probably best to just tell the insurers as much as you can. I crashed my A8 last year and the insurance loss adjuster told me to take off the S8 badge on the back and grille before he took any photos, decent of him to be fair. He said that anything not standard would make the insurance null and void, no arguements.

It takes long enough - a few weeks I think or more I waited for mine!

I have a large sheet of it arriving shortly hopefully so I can do my fog lights and then sell on some for other cars :)

cheers boydie, only ordered it last week so probably not looking good for tomoro. will let the guy have a bash and see what it looks like, dont like the sound of it not fitting perfectly!!

Your lucks running, lol, you'd think they'd say oh our fault so let it slide, but guessing as there economy sucks at moment(there own doing) they need to recover any money.

just received an email invoice from lamin-x for 21 dollars. wtf?

Looks like their counter of the beaos has realised that they forgot to charge for postage

Weird that. I'll let you know if I get one - think I was about 4 days behind you in ordering so I'll expect mine around Wednesday.

I'll be sending them an email saying that the have no business charging my card and have not been authorised to draw down additional funds and also advising my credit card that an unauthorised payment request may be coming.

I'm certainly not paying an extra 20 dollars just because they made a mistake on their web page - as it happens, then card I used to order it has expired since I placed the order so the payment should be refused anyway.

Yeah I absolutely agree Marc, they fecked up so they should accept it, Samsung unbelievably fecked up with me & my Tocco phone(call cut of, 3g signal goes, same as iphone 3g, so new firmware that took 4 months to build), in end after 50 phone calls & throwing some fecks around they changed it for an Omnia which is **** anyway as screen res it terrible & gave me a Samsung NV100HD camera free, cost me so much time & stress let alone money I out of principle followed it through

whats funny is I still have the tocco, but they will ask for it back anyway.

wouldn't be so sure. I had a motorola v50 when they just came out and I had to send it back to motorola's irish repair centre for repair - they couldn't fix it so they sent me a new one which also went faulty, so they sent me a new one and advised that I should give the old one to the delivery driver and he would return it, so I did that and two days late the package was returned to me with a note to say that they could not deliver it. I now had a new v50 and the old one that didn't work. I called them up to say that I still had the faulty one so they said they'd send me out a new one and that I should give the faulty one to the delivery driver. I explained that I had already done that before and they said that this time it would be ok. driver turned up, gave me new phone and i gave him original faulty phone. I now had two new v50s and the faulty one had been returned. Two days later I received another delivery - this time from Motorola UK - of a new v50 along with a note apolgising for the delay in resolving the problem. En d result - three Motorola v50s for the price of one.

lol, classic, sold my Omnia anyway so I'm happy got money back for Tocco, so even if they want back I didnt lose a thing & gained a nice camera, 14mp, hd video, dual IS, probably sell but hey still done ok

hey all

any of you guys used the lamin x paint protect kit?

A3paint.jpg

i do alot of miles and my poor a3 is gettin peppered with stone chips

id only really wanna use the front bumper part and leave the bonnet area (might look crap seeing the edge as it only covers the front bit)

saw it on a black scooby and it was hardly noticable plus my car not being metalic i thought itd b less noticable

The card I used for this transaction expired at the end of August so I called by bank this morning to query what would happen if Lamin-x tried to put through a payment request and was advised that it would be declined. The customer service agent then checked my account and told me that a payment of €16.10 went through overnight.

I told her that the only payment I authorised was the $69.80 on the original invoice back in May. She told me that Lamin-X may have forced the payment through manually which means that they would have access to my credit card details and they are not secure.

The payment has been marked as unauthorised, they have put a block on my card and issued a new one with a new number. The transaction has been passed to their chargeback unit and I presume it will not be paid.

You may want to check with your own banks as I presume Lamin-x will also make an additional charge to your cards. Your credit card details are probably not secure either since they were able to get my card details from their system. If I remember correctly at the time I made the purchase I did notice that their site was not secure which would mean that the credit card information would have gone through in plain text.

At the end of the day the only transaction I authorised them to make was the $60.85 plus $8.95 for shipping which was calculated by their online shop. It is not my fault if there was a problem with their system. You can be sure that they would not refund shipping charges if I paid them too much. It's a point of principle really. One could argue that had their shipping charges been correct in the store that most of us would not have made the purchase. I know I would have thought twice about paying nearly 30 dollars to have it shipped.

Has anyone else had this problem with lamin-x ?
Ordered some Sun night, and got charged the $64.80.

As my credit card expires at the end of the month - it might be interesting to see what happens
