Hi everyone,

I am new here today having been a bit of a browsing member for a while.

I'm in a position now to go for the Audi I've fancied for ages, and I've found one on auto-trader and was wondering if some of you good people wouldn't mind having a quick look at the advert and see if it's up to scratch?

I know a personal viewing of the car is required, but is there anything obvious in this advert and the price that might suggest not bothering with the 50 mile jaunt to view it?

Thanks very much in advance...

Dan

Nearest mileage available99,000Price when new£21,500Retail value Garage/retailer's selling price£4,595Trade-in values Clean Condition£2,625Average Condition£2,275Below Average Condition£1,950

Based on Average Mileage for the 8 year old car 99k seems reasonable, though the price is nearer 4k. Check all is good and that the usual lot have been changed cambelt, clutch, flywheel etc as well as the haldex oil. Knock off £500 and that'll do!

Thanks for the replies,

I would have liked leather yes, a friend has leather which I think suits the car of that nature alot better, but I can live without it if the car itself is mechanically fit and the exterior is sound.

Appreciate that info Jester, I will bare it in mid when viewing and ask the relevant q's ;).

I will let you know how I get on, hoping to pop up and see it on Sunday!

looks a nice buy, a set of 18 inch rs rims would go well on it i reckon-at least it did on mine!

Agree with all above... it is a good price... i paid £5000 for mine 12 months ago with 80,000 on the clock and full leather... speaking of which you quite often see full leather interiors up for sale so you could always upgrade in the future...

Hate to say it buts thats too much for a pre-facelift. You can be gettin v5 4motions for a couple hundred more. Its too old and was spec'd by a cheap person. Also there is somthing too iffy about the front end, it has a front fog headlight switch, but no fogs.....?

Nice one guys, thanks for the replies!

Those wheels look nice mate, and I have considered those myself for when I get the car I want :), your pictures just make the choice even more right lol.

markyboy: cheers for that, might have to see if I can locate some leather and put that into the car in the ad, should I get it that is...;)

I saw this reply after I typed lol

Are you thinking it may have had a bang and replaced with a bumper without fogs?

I'm glad you spotted that though...

What is this worth in your eyes then if you don't mind my asking?

or buy a nice prefaced s3 for around 6k

I don't quite have 6k S3mad, although I would love an S3.

That other one looks good Ibzzzzz...thanks for the link

Id say get them both Hpi'd yourself and dont go by the dealers check. Then seriously consider the one i found because for the difference £205 your gettin much more car. and as i say im sure you can get the price down!

Cheers for that, very much appreciated indeed!

Thanks to everyone for the info supplied too :)

The second one is a much better buy, the leather alone is worth £400, so it actually works out cheaper than the first one and 2 years younger.

impressed with the car and especially the freephone number to check mileage, honest car dealer...whatever next

I like the look of the 2nd one. We havnt long bought a 1.8tqs 6, and they are very nice cars for the cash. We deliberatly went for one without leather as the a4 has leather and the GF doesnt like to Hot in winter and cold in winter feeling, lol
We payed 3500 for a 2001 facelift 180bhp model with FSH and A folder of reciepts inc slave, oil pump and various things that are expensive/a pain to do later.

Although our search was slightly more limited as wewanted 5 door, so we traveled 100 miles to collect this one.

Has anyone had a look at the pictures and understood what I meant about the headlight switch and fogs?

Oh ok like the Mk4 golfs, didnt think the A3 would have that. But ok that fact aside, the green one is better!

Just like to say thanks to everyone for the info provided and help, it's very much appreciated ;)

So you got an S3?

Yes, concluding my search for an A3 Quattrro, I ended up buying a lovely S3 in silver lol.

Always loved the S3's, but I never thought I'd end up buying one :)

Going to post some pics up in the pics thread once I get a chance to go out with the camera.

Thats good man! Can't go wrong with S3s, especially for the prices they are going for nowadays!

That's right mate, and I absolutely adore driving it, soooooooo much fun!

Just hearing that turbo is delightfull, and the pull is unbeleivable.

the only other Audi I'd driven before was my Dad's A4 1.8T Sport 150bhp, which was very nice, but you can see the difference in car setup in the S3. Ride is alot harder, gears are obviously awesome, but the sheer difference in how the power is delivered is alot more my cup of tea lol.

A remap is tickling my fancy, but I won't be doing this until I've had the car a while, want to just enjoy it as-is for now :)

Yes remap will change the whole car ,

so how much did you get it for . I was looking for a 1.8t at the start and then i thought why not pay a bit extra and i got a s3 for a great price !!
