hi all, when is the last time you topped up with oil, meaning how often has the oil warning light come on, my light came on around 7-8 months back i topped it up with a litre of oil, and today the light has come up, is that normal, oh by the way my car is a 2.0tdi sport,
many thanks

Mine is a 2.0 TDI 140 and I have done 6008 miles since new (28th June 08) My light came on yesterday...... 1 ltr in..... Job sorted.

mine usually does a litre every 4-6 weeks, though recently I've decided to see how long it will go before the bright red warning light comes on, the polite orange one is on at the moment

every 4-6 weeks? how come so much oil??and you get a orange polite light? when my oil is low its just comes on as a warning light, you if my light is coming on every 7-8months theres noting to worry about?

Never topped up any oil as it didnt use any on my previous S3, 17k miles in 16 months.

Pretty certain I've topped mine up 3 or 4 times since new. Mind you I've done just over 18k since Dec last year. Booked in for first service next Friday.

Not done it a for a good few months. Never had the light on though

yeah, a litre every few k miles now, it smokes like a ****** on startup too, they're looking at it at the next service

I seem to remember there being two warnings, the annoying please check oil bing and a much more agressive "sort it now or it will go pop" one, I'm trying to see if I imagined it or not

I've seen the amber oil light come on once, but now I check it quite often. Needs a service though so I'm loathe to buy another litre to top it up!

Sorry boys and girls but if you run around in a car thats fitted with a farm tractor engine what do you expect ;);););)

Tra, la, la. Tra, la, la.
Only kidding :sorry::sorry::sorry::sorry:

I've heard/read this claim before as well, but I never got a two stage warning in my own little version of the Exxon Valdese I called an A3.

One and a half tanks of fuel so far and no red warning, so I guess that's about 600 miles

No red warning after the yellow warning?
Was it yellow?
Christ, I can't remember, unbelievably.

I get you.
I had the benefit of having a large drum of oil in the warehouse, for our (small) fleet of oil-burning Audis.
So I was able to quickly top up when the first warning came on.
Were it not for that drum in the warehouse, I dare say I'd have 'pushed' it like you are.

its a fun game

the odd thing is the low coolant warning has turned itself off, very odd, maybe its suddenly decided to start fixing itself!

You should always check your oil every few weeks in my opinion - I would change my oil every 8-10k in my 2.0tdi

IMO, you're playing a dangerous game by letting the oil get so low, the consequences of too low oil are very expensive.

Still running, still no red oil warning, may shove a litre in tomorrow as I need it for the airport,

I've had my 8P TDI 140 for 14 months now and done 25,000 miles in that time. I've had an oil change after about 5,000miles (cos I didn't trust when the last one was done) and in the last 20,000 have added about another litre.

When I had an Astra, the Vx handbook said that 'acceptable' oil usage was 1/2 litre per 1,000 miles  and that was in a petrol!!
