all this talk about BT kits is making me moist...... not really considered it at all but thought about it as a 'nice addition' albeit an expensive one.

There is a small chance my turbo may be on its way out (subject to a few remaining tests i need to do).... question is how easy would it be to find a straight forward bolt on repalcement..... i know most of the guys who have the BT have gone to the extremes of uprating the parts which i guess is the sensible thing given the extra power... just thinking if im paying £1000 (ish) for a KO4 fitted....

my thoughts would be that i would have to stump up more cash than this by far to consider the BT....just fancied your opinions on the matter:salute:

then you could find that clio and really teach him a lesson!

Paul 1982 had a mate on who was selling MTM conversion his car had bin involved in an accident dont know if he still has the kit. When i was on the look out for a s3 i didnt consider anything but a big turbo,it transforms the car into something very lethal but maybe you should try to buy one with the conversion done you may find this a cheaper alternative!my MTM receipt i have is for 12k and thats without my wheels!

theres a company called gt3turbo.com have a look on there they do a straight replacment big turbo £1400 im tempted but not sure youd get quite the same results as a proper conversion still the same turbo most big turbo kits use though

thanks guys will have a look at the suggested 2....

Rav, thats an old 1 dooood:moa:

lol sorry mate just had to put it in there. personally i think it was just the CC.

No probs mate..... my car wasnt CC'd then and had a boost leak that affected the fuelling caused by a vacuum pipe that had broken off:moa:

nope sorry fella....fact....theres a whole thread about the problems i was having at the time and the difference once solved hours before the remap:p:laugh:

does that mean you could have me now then Tim :eyebrows:

PS Jbs turbo is in its beta stage I thought?

Spoke to Backdraft recently. They do a KO4 hybrid for around £799 plus fitting and Map.

Takes it up to around 300 bhp, maybe worth doing cats and DP with that?

Just another option!

Problem is time you have done that it may be worth going BT, as you need the mapping done anyway...

sorry to steal thread:whistle2:

cheers Baker...... think that may be an option..... not sure i can fork out for a full BT knowing what i could buy a car already done for....

why are you washing your hair?
I am washing it as it goes,I have to get the shoebox from under the bed with it in and wash every strand individually

http://www.santapod.co.uk/calendar.php
doesn't seem to be a close season Tim

PS I'm grafting until twelve satday and footie is on at six and sunday I'm partying...(well actually my six year old daughter is and I'm taking her!)

i think im out regardless mate, was hoping to get corp tickets through work for Trax but nothing yet......

Pick a date and ill check my diary..... gimi a summary of costs etc as ive never been before...... didnt realise it was only Bedford way...... not too much of a tragic journey....suppose a Sept/Oct sesh will be fine, was thinking about the weather but i suppose thats no biggy

LOOK HERE

Could be very very tempting!!

Very tempting especially as it was with standard manifold and cats......

Wonder if revo offer stage 3 for this kind of turbo upgrade as i have revo already it would be a cheap upgrade if they did....

That is your best option but dont expect miracles from them. A solid improvement over a good k04, but not the same as a proper BT conversion.

Price is good though. For proper BT, you should reckon on about 4k minimum and it will be backed off with stock coolers. Add nearly a grand for an intercooler, another grand for a clutch if you want to play safe (although IMO as BT power is higher up the rev range, you dont really need it unless you are dragging!).
So then you're at sort of 6k!!

Rods, head etc, and your talking nearer 8k!

So not cheap at all. Even Kev doing his own, I bet it was near 2.5-3k in the end?

Thanks Simch...... think its best to buy already done if not going the KO4 route, seen a couple of cheap MTM's about since i bought mine (obviuously risks accompanied)...... incidently, what does your set up stand you at overall?

Yeah I've seen a few BT ones for sale since getting mine, but they all seem to be in yellow! and pre facelift, What is it with yellow and BT's I haven't seen one nice Grey or black facelift with BT for sale!! I think if i did i would be very tempted, but judjing in how hard it seems to be at the moment to shift these cars by the time i sold mine the BT would be gone.

I've stopped counting :) I just love messing with cars. I'll have to total it up some time........I know I'll be shocked at what I've spent.

Bill brockbank does a drive in drive out IHI for £4000. Monday drop off Friday collect with map. Best deal I've seen. Of course thats without the extras as simch mentioned.

bill done the ihi kit on my mk4 golf. started on monday, i was driving it home on the friday night. NEVER had a problem with the kit.
i'll be going to bill again for my new kit for the a3
i'd defo recomend

It's not so bad when you do it in stages like you, you don't notice the ££££ so much, but to drive in and out for £4000++ i think that's probably what puts people off, Plus all the better if you have the skill to do it yourself , i think that once you have done yours you could double that figure for a drive in drive out jobbie of you standard!
I think my idea is going to be, get my exhaust fitted next week, have a FMIC by the time my next service is due a roundabout January, then get Jabba to service and Remap it, then spread out over next year Cat's/downpipe/manifold/ 1 item every couple of months or so then hopefully a JBS K04 at the end of the year.....well if all goes to plan!

I see your point. It's like part payment without the debt and you're right, I haven't really noticed it.

LOADSAMMONNEY!!!!!!!!

Your head will be 3k btw!! lol

3k for a head, wow, what do you get for that?

i dont really see the point in the ko4-05 though, surly thats going to be an s3 maxed out on a k04 to 300bhp, if you was to buy this http://www.gt3turbo.com/Merchant/product.php?productid=768&cat=413&page=1 i no its a straight bolt on jobbie so not sure people will like it as much as a proper bt kit but surly that will see in excess of 300bhp and not be on the limit like the k04-05

The JBS 05 is capable of up to 350bhp and at £850+ vat in exchange is a good deal, my view is a JBS would be much the better bet, as it's smaller so faster spool up and less lag, the only reason someone would go for a BT would be if they do want to push the 400bhp mark, which means alot of internal work too = mega bucks. so i think the best bet is the JBS 05 comfortable 340/360 like they state.. which is what a BT makes anyway, unless you of are planning a 350+ bhp monster theres no need.

ok sounds like the option to go for is the k04-05, ive just removed my gear box today to do the clutch and the turbo looks like a right pain to change with everything back together (as in gearbox fitted) what they like to change???

BigTurbos suck, thats a fact.

I only have one because I have a smally willy, thats a fact.

Deffo a better option buying one thats already done, you can buy a stock S3 and still have a turbo go, atleast with the BTs you know they have been changed at some point (Thats my viewpoint anyway!) My cars nearly at 120k now and Ive driven it hard on the roads, tracks and autobahns with no issues and I dare say it didnt have an easy life before me either!
