Autocar has a feature on the TT RS with pics!!

They say it is a test mule which is not really disguised when you look at the pics, a 2.5 Litre V5 Twin Turbo. Only the front looks drastically different to the TTS.

340bhp and wait for it..........40K!!!

Me thinks if EVER a RS3 is made the pricing would be stupid.

Lots of money for that type of car, you can get very nice RS4 and M5's for that money now!

The V5 is going to sound amazing though!

Jonny

Madness - a little too niche - you would buy a Cayman (or Boxster) surely or 2nd hand V8 M3...?

I dunno, if they threw an RS3 on the market at £34-36k and it had the flared arches, buckets as standard, and THAT 5 cylinder noise I'd probably throw my cards on the table!
It's all the car I'd need right now, I don't need anything bigger! Better Exhaust and a remap and you're breathing on 400bhp.... I mean you're in RS4/R8 territory!
Agreed an V8 would be nice, but you get the best of both worlds with that 5 cylinder engine, good noise AND turbo power.... I can keep dreaming yeah.

Yeah, perhaps the RS3 might happen after all and that £500 deposit I put down over 4 years ago was worth it.

Thats the engine i wanna see! V5 twin turbo.... Does anyone think it will be moved to a future RS3 like the S3 engine went to the TT S?

Very much doubt in this chassis lifetime, you never know on the new A3 coming in 2011 but it will probs be around 2013-14 before the S or RS comes out...

New A3 coming out in 2011, that's plenty of time for them to do it as a last hurrah!
I mean, with the new Focus RS at 300bhp, proposed MK6 VW Golf Gti-R using the current S3 engine Audi must be doing something to up the S3 and maybe have room for something super special????

Your probably right like, nothing but wishful thinking, but the prospect is enough to get me itching for it!

Why aren't they using the new S4's supercharged V6 ?? So many engine choices in the range - incredible.

Surely the s/c V6 will sound better than a TT V5 ?

Having had both a V8 and a V5 in the past I know the more cylinders the better...

I'm guessing it's 1. To keep the car a bit lighter and 2. Because they won't want model over-lap and seem to like having model specific engines. Thats greedy Audi for you...

I don't think the GTI-R will be using the S3 engine in it's current form. I heard they'll be using an uprated version of the 211PS/350nm engine from the A4, which is also supposedly going into the new standard GTI.

I can imagine the 211PS version going in the GTi, but they will need at least 260PS to replace the R32 with the GTi-R surely???

That's why I said uprated. Like they did with the 197bhp 2.0T, which went into the S3 as the uprated 261bhp version.

If it sounds anything like the Audi Quattro or S2 yeh the sound alone is worth a good part of that money!

Mmm all the more reason not to buy a facelift yet. If you are correct that is, fingers crossed.

Mark

If the RS3 EVER comes it wont be on this chassis, it will be on the new A3 platform which is at least 2 years away.

As mentioned before the S/RS is always a few years after the initial launch so at the earliest it will be around 2013-14.

Look how long the S3 took to come out on this chassis, 3-4 years!!

I think the S5 smashes that theory all to hell.

What's so special about a Turbo in a V5? I don't know ALOT about engines so when you guys talk about 4-pot etc it goes straight over my head heh

5 cylinders have a lovely noise to them...I think perhaps even better than that of the 6 cylinder such as the Vr6!

Likely to be much more smoother than the 4 cylinders in the S3's just now and more torque too I imagine!

Wonder what the tax band will be? lol

why would you twin turbo a V5? A single turbo would make more sense to me.

Two turbos like the new beamers - a small one which spins up quickly at low revs to do the low down part of the rev range, then the larger one cuts in at 3000 - 4000rpm say as the smaller one disengages. That way you minimise turbo lag.

i'm thinking of it form an engineering sense, that theres a 2 cylinders on bank and 3 on the other. Usually on Audi BiTurbos they have one per bank. The V5 is more like a straight 5 that a V so a single turbo feeding all 5 pots would make alot more sense.

The new BMW turbo engine is a twin turbo, one turbo per 3 cylinders..

I would imagine the V5 would be a narrow angle V with all 5 cylinders under one head, as on the VR6 engines..

In my opinion a V5 sounds way nicer than a V6, little bit down to the fact that your rarely hear a V5..

was in the shop earlier and had a quick thumb through auto express. according to it the ttrs will have touchscreen MMI, however I suspect it is more likely to be a variant of the mdf3 unit from the golf. somehow I don't think the MMI setup will fit into the existing TT dash layout.

All hail 5 cylinders - they do sound better than a v6 in my book!

Humm dont know about that, I heard the new S4s engine being revved up at work and it dosnt sound special at all.

That can easily be fixed with a performance exhaust.

The TTRS comes standard with signature RS exhaust tone and sport mode.

S trim models are rather muted. Take the S3 for instance - it BEGS for a custom decat DP or Miltek system.

imho the new S4's engine should sound glorious with an exhaust mod.

so i was right about the single turbo then! :)
