I have now had the problem a few times where on auto close the window would then drop down a few inches as if there is something trapped inside the seal. The end result each time was I had to reset it and then all would be ok.

After that problem went I found sometimes that after the window had raised fully I could hear a clicking coming from the motor area as if it was trying to push the window fully up but something was stopping it. Only once in the last month has the window lowered on it's own though.

Today I drove my car and fully auto opened the window. I drove 2 miles and then when I pressed to close the auto feature had gone so I had to reset again.

I plan to pay a visit to Bedford Audi when I'm in the UK next month (I tried Audi here but there is a bit of a language barrier and the tech I saw didn't really know what to do) but I wondered if anyone else had similar problems and how they got it sorted in the end.

Thanks in advance

Its one of 2-3 things, door switch pack as that uses resistance on 4 wires to tell the door module what feature to operate like different windows, mirrors etc, could be fault with circuit on the switch pack pcb maybe faulty resistor, door module does everything on that door so could be that & the clicking noise is the relay inside the door module & if this is being heard after closed then seems to point to that & lastly & most unlikely is a wiring issue, but as the windows lower & raise its doubtful, I am leaning towards the door control module given my experience with mine & the clicking after closure/lowering, it only usually clicks when the auto closure/lowering is activated which is done by holding the window button for 2-3 seconds then it powers the relay to hold power on that function.

Didnt we have this discussion already about your windows or someone else?

Didnt we have this discussion already about your windows or someone else?

Someone else posted about theirs recently (I replied to it) and there have been a few over the years.

I'm posting now because the fault is still ongoing and keeps changing its symptoms. In fact I have just remembered, I dropped my girlfriend off last night and she left her window a few inches open and I found that it had forgotten the auto close on that side too (from my switch). Just to make thinks a bit more confusing hey?!

I have had no reports that the auto close hasn't worked on 'her' side though.

I had the same problem mate. Took it to the dealers about 3 weeks ago and they did a software update for the windows. No problems since :icon_thumright:

Fingers crossed they can do the same for me!! Cheers!

yeah, I posted about it recently too... its into the dealers tomorrow...

Aha I thought it was one of you lot that also posted this & i replied, lol, its interesting theres software or we should say firmware updates for the door modules huh, sounds like a problem with relay interaction to me as people are reporting clicking with problem, be good to know if yours all get resolved by software update.

yeah, they have had to order a door control unit for mine. No firmware fix. So its back to the shop next week. :keule:

(As I try hard to get my head through the door) lol, I did say it was the module for both of yer boys, on a serious note the clicking could only be one thing in the door & thats the module as thats the one part that has relays inside it, I've stripped my door down that many times I know it fairly well.

well you have one in each door & when you do the mirrors/windows drivers door for passenger I believe it just uses CAN signal to lower, move etc, I cant imagine it wires from left to right as whole point of DBW/CAN etc is to lower cabling, reliability, easier fault finding & faster signalling overall, I havnt traced wiring from door to door(YET in caps, lol)

door module also is part of the window motors, does unclip but I didnt need to go that far, the drivers door switch pack uses a clever system of resistance to lower voltages etc to signal the door module to do something, this cuts down on wiring dramatically, very impressive & stupidly simple, so you can use 3-4 wires to do 10+ wires job by putting resistors inline with different positions of the mirrors & folding, took me while to figure that one out which required dismantling the door switch pack, mirror dial etc to trace the pcb so gave me understanding of the wiring/closure circuits

But to throw spanner in works, the dimming part of the side mirrors isnt CAN at all, its purely wired straight from the rear view so on one side you think ok they wouldnt do that amount of wiring then thats disproves the theory to a degree, kinda stupid IMHO

Just a quick update. I found yesterday that the passenger window dropped down after I auto closed it from my side. I now realise that the other day when I dropped my misus off she hadn't left it open, it had dropped down after she had closed it from her side.

So it's both windows from both switches. Sounds like the control module to me.

An update now TrickyLad has reminded me:

I had the software on my electric windows updated about 4 weeks ago and 2000 miles later and I haven't had one single occurance of the windows forgetting the auto function or of them opening back up 2 inches.

I have had the clicking thing a few times so I intend to go back to get that looked at. One time I left it clicking to see how many times it would do it but at 30 I decided to give up waiting.

mine is going in the garage for an oil change and tyre check up in a few days so i am def going to mention this to them

problem i have is sometimes it works fine and sods law is when i give it them it will work fine and they wont do anything about it.

Mine wasn't doing it at the time but it didn't matter. They know of the fault as it has been reported by Audi that a software update is required.

quick update
apprently blackburn garage know nothing about this so called fault and made me feel like i was a liar when i said its a problem i know others have had.

anyway its in on saturday, apparently no cars i can have for 2 weeks so i get to sit around in showroom for an unspecified amount of time

I'd either call Audi customer service or call another garage to confirm that they have heard of it (try Bedford as that's where I went) then kick off.

When I go into a dealership I never let them fob me off with a ******** answer.

Either the person you spoke him/herself didn't know or they're just mongs.

Leon, can you let me know what the drivers door module version is/software version & the coding for both doors please mate as I have updated my drivers to the new J version & have now got the window dropping problem, fixed the ****** folding issue on drivers but now when I use full closure system & then come back next time I unlock the drivers drops down slightly, there is a label file issue me & Stu have found for newer modules which hopefully sebastian will look at from ross-tech, but any info would be appreciated fella.

drivers door is 42 & passengers is 52 in vagcom, go into select module & at bottom put in 42 or 52, the coding & part number is at the top as with all, just curious to know what yours shows fella please.

I've never taken much notice of that lot of info at the top!

Ok driver's door:

VAG Number: 8P0 959 801 K
Software coding: 0000632

Passenger:

VAG Number: 8P0 959 802 K
Software coding: 0000632

I have interior light pack but not auto dimming mirrors. Anything else mate?

whats the hw & & sw versions on the drivers fella?

no msn today?

Just had mine sorted on the Cabrio, rear windows, new controlers fitted seems to have solved the problem

When you lowered or closed the hood either one or both windows would not close automaticaly.
